I'm on the list for help at the brewery!

Several years ago, walking just outside my neighborhood. Going by what had been a church/youth center, then sat empty for quite a long time, and saw some activity. Walked over and asked the guys what they were doing.

Remodeling the structure to accommodate a brewery. They've been quite successful.

Still kick myself that I didn't think to ask if they could use a small investor.

My dream location is an old brick fire station or small warehouse. I'd have the brewery downstairs and my wife could run a dance studio upstairs. I'd have specials for parents hanging out while their kids are at dance class.

Old church or small school with a gym would also work for this concept, and if it had a kitchen I could rent out to someone who wanted to sell my customers wings, better yet.

Based on the parents I see at the dance class that my daughter attends, I’d expect a winery to perform really well. Unsure about beer, but I’d stop by!

Yeah, def need to stock some chardonnay for the wine moms.

Safe to say you'll be opening this brewery somewhere other than Alabamie? Did I ask this already? I think I did.

Yeah, def not Alabama, or anywhere else in the Southeast. Looking Pacific Northwest or central mountain states.

Currently 9 degrees here, this might be my fave temperature. Beautiful days (so long as it isn't raining) and can comfortably get outside to enjoy the weather by just dressing appropriately.

I'm really bad at lazing, so yeah, I totally get this. TBH when I say "if anything" about what to do post military retirement, I meant as in a formal job. I'll definitely keep writing, working or not, and I have a project list as long as my arm.

But mostly I'm trying to decide if I'll do a few more

The most successful I've seen in my neck of the woods is the brewery/restaurant combo. Without the restaurant, getting distribution is tough and expensive.

brag - last night at a 1/3 game one player was straddling every hand for $100 and rarely folding to action
beat - AK
variance - still profited $173 on the session

I had a literally perfect spot on Thursday with a whale directly to my left going to $100 and then calling up to $500 at 2/3with any two. I saw him all in with K7o, 34ss Q6o. He lost 2k in the time I sat with him. Sadly I never got a hand to go with in about 90mins. Lost about $200 but then followed him to 5/10 where he played standard tag poker.

I asked him about 'why the difference' and he said a line that is an all time classic

"5/10 ABC. 2/3 ATC'

Def plan to have a cider. IDK about gluten-free beer. That's a very niche market and it's hard to do.

Yeah, I'm not looking to get a distribution deal. Looking to set up in a jurisdiction that allows breweries to sell for offsite consumption and do growlers and kegs that way, but not trying to get into grocery/liquor stores. When I say little brewery, I mean little brewery. Like maybe a three to five barrel brewing system and a one to three room taphouse.

I would like my customers to have food options, but I don't want to run a restaurant, so I'll either rent out space to someone who wants to run a similarly small-scale restaurant or I'll get food trucks in. If the latter, it would also be nice to be close to a restaurant people can get takeout from when there's no food truck.

That seafood place y'all used to talk about? Rusty Scupper, or something like that?

g-man, gf beer is always left wanting and 2x the price of regular beer - there's always something not quite right about it, like some eggs without any ketchup/hotsauce/salt/pepper and it's missing the final element

if anyone can make a gf beer that is whole at scale they'll be a very wealthy man who gets bought out by abinbev within a year

IDK if slim and zollie are still around, but The Cure just released a new single, and it is surprisingly good.

Whole album is ridiculously good mate...very impressed a 65 yo man can put out quality record. Had it on repeat

I took my parents to their polling place for early voting a few weeks ago. They still live somewhat near where I grew up.

Saw a dude a few years younger then me that I used to play golf with. Guessing he's 52 or 53:

Slim: "what are you up to?"

Him "Retiring"

Slim: "huh?"

Him: "yup get my full pension for 30 years as of next spring. Gonna do some part time consulting and I'll make ~100k doing that plus the pension. Wife will keep working"

Slim: channeling Napolean Dynamite "Lucky...."
