Other than the main event, tourney numbers have trended slightly up this year. With inflation and how bad many people are hurting for money I’m surprised the the turnout is as good as it has been.

I don’t think the public has less interest in poker, I think the public just has less expendable income this year than last year.

The guy they just showed sitting next to Brent Hanks with the high hair, he was at my table in the Colossus all day. The first 4 hours or so he hit everything he touched and was a big table chip leader, then right after dinner break, he went nuts with a flush draw and lost like 90% of his stack and the dusted the rest shortly after.

Unemployment is at all time lows, wages are up, and the stock market is at all time highs. People with $10k to spend on a tourney often have money in the stock market. We're not talking about the working poor. I've seen polls where a lot of people think the economy is in the tank and others are hurting, but personally they are doing great financially.

Also JFC these people at the feature table need to use their inside voices. I'd rather listen to Bleznick blow his nose every 30 seconds.

They tried hard to make it big last year and didn't this year

Also don't think it was beneficial for the FT to have a "pro" player vibe.

Over 9K already. Depending on day 2 registrations, we could break the 2023 numbers.

Klump looks like a mannequin, scary.

I hope so.

It might shut up the “poker is dying” people.

At least he isn't wearing a scarf.

would like to see jamie kerstetter and antonio esfandiari back in the booth. or even bring back nick wright.

That dude saying “You have excellent posture” was a stream highlight! That and “Smash Mouth” by All Star.

5K to not cut your hair, what a world

How does this table have so many chips!? - Hachem
avg stack is like 55K

Oh Kristen... Shown the 77 on like AT2J

Lol women really are nits. The best female MTT player is at this level, Bencb is looking smart.

UTG 77 (Kid on a tilt ready to go home)
BTN ATo (Foxen)

Turn AT6Jhhxx
12k
X-B50-AI

The kid was short. Foxen had to pay 23k in to 46k, getting exactly 1:3.

She tanks for a little bit but not even very long and ends up just mucking?
Absurd. Beats even JTs value. Also QJhh QThh KJhh KThh superdraws possible. But the kid has 77 LOL well played for him tho making top range fold for cheap price. Playing against woman on main day 1 just go all in if u think she does not have the nuts and print.

Oh and Foxen had played with him for atleast 6hours on the same table on stream at that point. Should already have some info on him.
Tried to get a live read but thats did not work for **** clearly.

What was this? That dude was a poker pro LMAO. Against CO who can have even A4o and A7o if he did open, if he cold called he still has A7s and A4s playing deeöp.

The pro 3bets 6k to 12k for small value. Amateur jams it in for a lot.
What was he thinking? Beats 0 value so he excepts to see a 4bet all in shove bluff on river main event day 1?

Must be some online pro this geek. People were commenting that top boat should not go broke against quads on day 1 which I disagree with, but this is really something else.

Hachem is annoying af

Hachem is annoying af

He's been annoying IMO since day 1
Years ago, I rewatched like 2005-2010 Mains on PokerGo. The very next year after winning it all, all the guy did was bitch and complain about running bad and never winning flips, etc etc. It was just the most tone-deaf stuff I'd ever seen. PASS THE SUGAR! 🙄

Christ this guy Kane Kalas is like listening to paint dry

by Randall Stevens k

I haven't seen him in a while, but this is surprising given who his dad was.

Exactly my reaction, too. Back in my old office, I used to put Phillies games on in the background. That voice was like music. Also, I'm sure I'm in the minority on this one, but for me, Kalas > Facenda on the vintage NFL Films.

i once interned w the Phillies

on the way back from a spring training promotion in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (on one of those sweet elite level travel buses) we got snowed in in the mountains. i stayed up as long as i could listening to Harry wax poetic about old time story after old time story. one of the best nights of my life

there was one of those huge Igloo coolers on the bus packed w cold beers, so the stories were flowing

For me, it was Facenda for the win on NFL highlights, but nobody in my 60 years of being a fan has done Phils baseball like Harry.

As for people speculating on why the Main Event field is down, last year was a record setter by a wide margin, partly fueled by the boost in post-COVID leisure in general and live poker in particular, plus partly by online sattys. It looks like the field this year is going to be awfully close to 2023.

A story i've rarely told... but since some here can clearly appreciate it:

I grew up in South Jersey. Used to play golf with a couple of guys who had the pleasure of spending time with Harry, Whitey, Wheels and the boys. Heard some great stories, but the best one (even if it was slightly embellished, LOL)....

One night (amongst many) after a boatload of drinking, everyone passes out.... and he wakes up in the middle of the night, wanders down the hall to the bathroom and hears from down the stairs.... "The 1-2 pitch.... a LONG DRIVE, DEEP to center field..... its OUTTA HERE. Home run, Michael Jack Schmidt!" So he walks down to turn off the TV, which obviously someone left on with some replay or documetary of the '80s World Series win or something.... but the TV isn't on..... and he stumbles upon Harry passed out on the sofa calling it in his sleep, LOL.

He was the best to EVER do it... and its not even close. To have the pleasure to grow up listening to him AND Gene Hart was an incredible privilege.

👍

a genuine cool story bro

thx for sharing

Very intresting to see how many players we get on day 2.

There is a chance to hit the record.

Why didnt WSOP try to push new record setting Main? There was zero talk about the numbers on stream and no massive marketing trying to hit the record. Would be great to see a record setting main event year after year and see a 20k field in 2040.

Last years entrants at the end of 1D:

9,337

This year:
9,288

And it seems more popular than ever to late reg. Wouldn't be surprised if they break the record. Yay poker isn't dying ! Phew...that was a close one!

I think I saw GG sent over 2000 players from Satellites.
