General TV Discussion and Thread for Shows Without A Thread Thread
OOTV doesnt like family comedies much huh? Raising Hope and The Middle are two of the best(possibly the best outside of
Rome was set during the coolest moment of the Roman empire and was historically accuratish.
rome was nowhere close to accurate, they even changed essential plot points because they thought it'd tell a better story
i still loved it though, but there were far more mistakes than accuracies made in regards to staying under budget and keeping the story focused
Roger Ebert gave Gladiator thumbs down.
Thus I assume the rest of his takes were accurate.
What on Jupiter's cock are you doing? Can't even compare Rome with Gladiator, Titus Pullo is the GOAT. Thirteeeeeeeeeeen!!!!!
Rome>>>>Spartacus>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> gladiator
never seen I claudius
i heard this and it got me watching and agree it's the best tv show ever made
it's excruciatingly slow though (especially at the beginning) and it requires careful watching - if you're going to be scrolling instagram etc then you'll miss the key things and won't appreciate it
it's all on youtubes, the first scene is by far the hardest to watch, it only gets better and builds - as you gain familiarity with the characters the slowness of the plot of theatre format tend to dissipate and you just focus on the incredible storyline and acting
Looks like they are doing some interesting stuff!
Sunny is the longest-running live action sitcom in American TV history
5 episodes into Dept Q and loving it. Probably finish it tomorrow at this pace.
I also liked it! Good story.
I also really liked the Whodunnit "The Residence". Great visuals, good story, entertaining main character, well written.
I can't believe they built a soundstage of the White House.
not posting in the last of us thread because avoiding spoilers there but it bugs me to no end that the major population centers are still old crumbling cities
like seriously, wtf
in s1
Spoiler
with boston, i could be mistaken, but iirc it was kind of hand waved away with vague mentions of supplies coming in where they inferred that they produced other things in boston and traded it for food etc
and then kc seemed like they were a very small community so it could kinda work
in s2
Spoiler
we're seeing jackson, which should be the norm now, gated rural centric agricultural based communities
but then we go to seattle and the arable land and forests are completely empty but then once we get to crumbling and rusty buildings there's a ton of people who's sole job is shooting guns at each other
Meh, The Last of Us has alot bigger problems before i start thinking about stuff like that
Rewatching Californication after more than 10 years has been great. S4 now, its hilarious and suprisingly poignant at times.
To bad it falls off a cliff, as is Showtime tradition, in later seasons.
Still can't believe David Duchovny is 47-53 years old here. Recently heard him say he'd love to come back to the role (no **** lol), but there's no way a show like this gets made today.
I heard of the praise TLOU was getting in s1. Kind of like True Detective s1 where it built and spread. And I watched the first 40 minutes of the premier and thought it was on pace to be be all time great hbo show.
But the reaction from s2 seems to indicate the show is bad now? Not worth continuing?
Duster on Max. Really really wanted to like this one - Sawyer from Lost, good 70’s setting, music, etc. but the writing is just so awful we didn’t get through the second episode.

its certainly worth watching if you enjoyed S1. I never played the games and S2 was not as good as S1, but i still enjoyed watching it and will watch S3 when it comes out.
I've got 2 episodes of TLOU S2 left to go. It is definitely an inferior season so far, but won't prevent me from finishing or watching S3.

S2 is markedly worse, feels like a different show with entire new group of writers
Big thing is there’s a 5 year jump between s1 and s2 - this does wonders to make the way too old to play 14 suddenly work as a 19 year old but pretty much destroys everything else
It also uses non linear progression so we hear about something something and it’s a very big deal like you’re an idiot for not knowing what they are discussing but no, you’re not an idiot, they are just bored and want actually show such and such for another 4 episodes and of course that happened 3 years prior
I’m sticking with it mostly because I’m most of the way through and it is getting better as we go deeper into the season, but it’s now just another high concept hbo show and nothing special

S1 was an 8/10. S2 was a 5/10 but had two great episodes mixed in between a few dog crap episodes. I’m still going to watch but my expectations are low.

HBO or Showtime would have absolutely no issue making a Californication show spinoff or whatever.
I could be wrong but I don't recall any "offensive" HBO, Showtime, Cinemax etc shows being pulled of the air.
I've stolen so many lines from this show and it's fucking hilarious.
her: (as I'm getting closer to speak in her ear because it's loud) you were thinking about kissing me weren't you
me: actually, I was thinking about how it would be to go down on you for the first time, but pretty much the same thing
her: you're pretty cute
me: don't know about that but I have great titties
Also, and this so stupid LOL but basically all I wear when going out is a black t-shirt and jeans - the Moody uniform.

I’ve never watched it but I’m sold. The tittie line slayed me and I also pretty much only go out in jeans and a black T shirt.

Runkle is the goat of the show. The diner scene at the end of S4 is absolute gold.
“Yes I love her. Of course I love her! I’ve always loved her. The only reason I’m with you is because I’m trying to sleep with 100 women so I can forget about her, but it’s IMPOSSIBLE.... forgetting about her that is.. I think 100 might be possible. I loved her and ****ed her for years, and yeah, maybe we never got round to playing brother and sister holocaust survivor in the sack but that didn’t mean I didn’t love her with all my heart, so there!”
