all the talk about the college roommate on landman got me to check it out and skip straight to those scenes

it felt way too on the nose. making her openly hostile and unreceptive to feedback was unnecessary. it would have worked far better if it leaned into forced compassion instead. the kind you actually see in real life. the passive moral posturing of “i don’t like leather because it’s cruel and i’m a good person” rather than “ew you’re a terrible person for owning a handbag”

the most absurd part by far was the mom showing up with no introduction or credentials and immediately getting full compliance, plus a weirdly subservient, almost sycophantic response of “omg how can i please you.” completely unbelievable

yes, everyone has seen the children of lawyers get special treatment in college. housing exemptions, policy carveouts, whatever. but it’s never from a parent storming in and issuing vague threats that are instantly obeyed. it’s a carefully worded request, usually on law firm letterhead, written in legalese, strongly implying that granting the waiver is easier than dealing with the alternative

it gave me the same feeling as why i quit yellowstone. the outcome might be plausible, but instead of showing how these things actually happen, they force it through a look at me i’m a badass lens, and it just comes off as dumb

if that woman came into my office, and asked if I could move her daughter I hate off campus, I'd do it.

but I haven't been employable for decades

It's a fun scene anytime Rebecca goes off on a group.

Yeah but how would she have done all that research racing to the jail in 15 minutes

steal

London crime thriller starring Sophie turner(Sansa stark)

not the greatest show, but good. Sophie Turner is actually a pretty good actress. good production values. skilled people working on the show.

Chat GPT read it to her. 😀

and probably wrote the script

Landman finale saved the season and the show.

Has anyone watched Borgen on Netflix? Older Danish political thriller with an 8.5 on IMDb and 100% on RT.

I tried to watch borgen. I generally like euro shows, and political thrillers. I gave up on it after 10ish episodes. I tried hard to like it, and just couldn't.

lead actor rubbed me the wrong way. he played euron grayjoy in GoT. lead actress was giving me nothing either.

Borgen is an overhyped snoozefest. The pro tip on Scandi tv is to stick with the murder and perversity.

Thanks for saving me the time on Borgen

I liked Borgen fwiw. Occasional slowish parts, but I found the Danish political system (multi-party) fascinating. Same with the cultural differences.

it's funny reading people freak out about the new star trek, saying it's too woke, and representational lmao

I remember people being mad about a black captain when ds9 came out

people were mad about a woman captain when voyager came out

people were mad when enterprise came out cuz it sucked... and it did for the first couple seasons, but then it actually got good in seasons 3 and 4.

then people were mad a black woman was the lead in discovery

they calmed down when a white man was captain again in strange new worlds(good trek btw)

I wasn't born when TOS first came out in 1966(?), but it was the first show with a black woman in a role like an officer on the bridge. and it had a Russian(during the cold war), and a Japanese pilot, not too long after ww2. the pilot episode had a female first officer

wait, enterprise stops sucking????

i'm a pretty big trekkie (went through all of original,tng,ds9,voyager) but couldn't even get through the pilot for that

had to bail on picard midway through and don't think i bailed on brave new worlds but it's pretty bad

if you don't like brave new worlds, then you might not like enterprise. but it's worth a try.

s2e2 "carbon creek" is a good stand alone episode to start with. no spoilers, first vulcans to visit earth in the 1950s get stranded and have to try to blend in.

if you like that, then skip to season 2 finale, episode 26 "the expanse". that starts season long arc where enterprise has to fly alone into weird, uncharted, dangerous space on a mission to save earth.

but there are some stinkers in season 3. so maybe skip to episode 8 "twilight" and just go from there.

the show switched show runners for seasons 3 and 4. same guy who did voyager, and tng.

it's a shame it got cancelled. it was picking up steam quality wise. but it sucked so bad to start, it just lost the audience.

thanks

there's a dedicated trek thread but it's mostly people like me raging about the new shows being so bad

The seams becoming rather prominent in The Pitt s2

Oh, please. No one cared. I'm sure there may have been a few, but this was not a thing.

Yeah, 2 people on twitter were mad. OH NO!

I have doubts that you guys were locked in to racial criticisms in 1993. Bringing up twitter might be a tell

That said, it was probably more controversial that Tuvac was black than Sisko

interestingly, the two most capable captains on the show are very clearly sisko and janeway

I had online services since 1986 and internet since 1992. Don't remember reading much about Star Trek, but did visit alt.tv.x-files, if anyone remembers USENET groups. My friends and I were very resistant to even watching The Next Generation at first ("It's not real Star Trek"). But eventually it grew on us, and we had to rent VHS tapes to get caught up.

Rewatching Supernatural, so im probably set for the year.

Never watched past season 7 or 8 when it aired, really liked 1-5 back in the day (its old now i guess?) and seems like there's some good stuff in later seasons to.

Its a top tier show to put on with morning coffee while scrolling the news, before the kids are awake. Still to tired and not really watching? Probably not missing anything big. Simple fun

It's great that we have 2% of Star Fleet Academy's fanbase right here.

I'm undecided on star fleet academy. there are things to like about it, and things that suck. my main point is the hate it's getting is mostly coming from people who are opposed to inclusive representation which is sad and lol.

like hate on the show for the glaring plot holes, or the silly one dimensional supporting characters. but don't hate on it for characters who are different than we are used to seeing on our screens. I mean personally, I think it's absurd how most people on our screens are so beautiful and fit

and holly hunter is legit delivering. her character is great. and the dynamic of teacher/students is good. and the concept of handing over life from one generation to the next is being handled nicely on the show.

i was looking at youtube for reactions to the show, good and bad. and I couldn't even find any good ones! and the bad ones, a lot of the criticism boiled down to just showing a picture of this chubby lesbian, who is barely in the show. but they just kept showing this picture of her like one minute of screen time in three episodes... and their point was the show is terrible cuz a person like that could never be starfleet just cuz of how she looks and her sexuality/culture.

just blatant discrimination
