New fast food discussion/review thread
OK OOT, it's been a while since we had a devoted fast food thread around here and I think it's time we had a new one.
In
Ty Mark for reminding me of the receipt survey deal!

Mark is like our FF version of Knish
I agree. It seemed exactly the same as previous versions. but idk.
All-inMcLovin - lol at the rounders reference
Scene Setting: A Ricks Near You
Mark_K strolls into the door and gets in line. In front of him, a man in dirty work clothes, fumbles with his money clip.
Mark_K to himself "I see a Mechanic, with this grip I know far too well. Should I try and give him the office, to use the app and receipt survey afterwards?"
Mark_K distracts himself instead, browsing 2p2 while he waits to order. He ponders, "Guys like him never learn, but in the FF thread they not only learn, but they appreciate my wisdom too!"
When he gets to the counter he mutters to the cashier, "Hey that guy who just ordered, total N00B right? Missing out on so much fat value.."
Cashier replies "Um, what did you say sir? Do you want a spoon?"
Mark_K quickly realizes where he is and that no one this side of Texas will care that he is the Fast Food Value KING. He quickly presents his receipt survey while flashing his app. "Two McRibs please. Extra sauce. And free fresh fries, and I do mean fresh fries -- that is your style professor."
Cashier is taken aback, exclaiming "Professor???!!! Sir, I'm not even in college. I flunked out last semester because I can't do basic math. That's also why I'm on probation here at McDonald's. Last week I gave a guy $35.50 for his change on a $6.35 order, when he gave me a $10 bill."
Mark_K is beside himself, but is wondering WTF is a McDonald's??? walking out the door.. snacking on some fries and mumbling, "Man all these years, I thought this place was Ricks".

Sniff... *wipes tear*
such an emotional roller coaster
McLived it up yesterday.
Double Filet o Fish ($6.89) - I'd never had one of these before. I am a long time fan of the FoF, and while I have seen many people online claim to love them, I don't think I've ever met anyone else in person who orders them. The double was everything I could have hoped for. They must never have these lying around so it came out piping hot, and tasted delicious, including the pillowy soft bun. If these were $4.89 instead of $6.89 I'd be posting homemade signs on street lights trying to spread the word about how great they were so more people could enjoy them.
McRib ($6.69) - I agree with one or more other folks itt - I feel like the patty is a touch thinner than I remember, I'd happily wager a lot of money it's thinner than it was 5 years ago. Very tasty still, with the sauce, onions and pickles all working together as always. But I'd have to be very not-hungry to be satisfied after having one-and-only-one for lunch.
Large Fries ($1.49 with app deal) - Marked down from $5.19. $5.19! Are you f-n kidding me, McD's charges $5+ for a ****ing order of fries now? 500% mark-up wasn't enough, it has to be 1000% now? SMDH
I definitely mentally assigned $6 to each of the sandwiches in my head instead of $7 like I should have, so I was a bit taken aback when the total came up $16.8X when I went to check out - I had preparred myself for $13-$14. Still, it was 2pm and I hadn't eaten anything so I placed the order anyway. The delightfulness of the double FoF made me forget about any outrage over the price in the moment, though I'm retroactively kind of peeved again.
$20.50 worth of menu price McD's:

The doble FoF is quite the treat
Yeah the price of fries now is insane. On 75% of my Ricks orders I use the free medium fries deal and then use up some points for large fries on the rest. I don't even get fries or a drink at the other burger places anymore. With the combination of the BOGO $1 mcdouble, free fries and $1.29 drink offerings and Ricks being at the nearest intersection to my house I have to have the eaten more mcdoubles in the last 2 years than anyone on earth. Like Obi Wan said I am more mcdouble now than man.
McRibs just popped up for me locally @ $5.39. I have been a McRib fan since the mid '80s, but this may be the first season they were available that I'll give them a pass. Not only have they steadily declined in size and taste, but I can get a good traditional BBQ pork sandwich, a side, and as much tea as I can drink plus take out in a go-cup for $10.
I may grab one or two (as one is no longer enough) just for old time's sake, but the quality and value are no longer tugging at me as they used to d
Well, it didn't take me long to cave on that vow. A convenient opportunity unexpectedly presented itself today and I bit! I got an extra one just in case my son walked in the house after getting off work early. He didn't, so I wolfed down all three. Seems like a $17 meal would have merited more ambiance *sigh*
Imagine my surprise when I opened the first box and there was my first McRib of the season in all its glory. On a ****ing hamburger bun with an inch or more of pressed pork protruding out of two sides of the bun!!! WTF??? It disappeared before I thought of getting a pic for you guys. 'Twas an unfortunate oversight as the other two were on standard McRib buns. TBH the one on the hamburger bun was the best of the three--primarily because the bun was softer and seemed fresher than the regular McRib buns. It also altered the meat:bread ratio favorably imo.
Other than that surprise, they seemed about the same as the McRibs of the past few years. The meat may have been slightly thinner, but if so, it wasn't by much. The McRib of today is still smaller than the McRib of yesteryear and is overpriced (as are many things these days), but it is still a nice change of pace.

I have no idea how the filet of fish still exists. It never goes on promo or is really advertised. Maybe at lent for you east coasters.
I'm neither a detractor nor a fan, I'm slacking on my mcrib instake. Free fries Friday, get that survey coupon, then double mcribs later.

The Filet-O-Fish is a permanent menu item, but it's especially popular during Lent when McDonald's sees about 25% of its fish sandwich sales.
If I go to Rick's I'd get a Double FoF
FoF goat and the double is quite the treat too. Usually less than 35% more in price than the single which is nice when the fish is really the big value component.
Order the double with extra sauce and that protects you a little bit more from melting your mouth since they are always made fresh and served at scalding temps. Sauce is amazing too and I would bathe in it if I could.
There is a restaurant chain here in the west, BJ's, love the name. Location is good, parking is very nice, and the high ceilings, nice seating and tables make this my go to place to eat out. With the loyalty card I can get the tri-tip with half a rack of ribs (delicious) combo with a baked potato and a cup of clam chowder for $19. Brought to my table by an attractive young lady. Eff McDonalds.
No wonder the double FoF is only 35% more (as reported above). The slice of cheese is 66% of the cost of the sandwich.
You get double the cheese.. its a full slice instead of the lol half slice. Doubling the cheese again is a power play though if you can budget it.
I’ve always maintained that FoF is a perfectly manufactured food item. It’s the kind of thing they’d eat in The Jetsons or Star Trek.
Nothing quite like a piping hot sandwich, fresh from your home kitchen matter configurator.
It's been so long since I've had a FoF, I forgot they only had 1/2 a slice of cheese.
it's not cheese, it's a elastomeric compound one molecule away from a ziploc bag
