The players are certainly not as big a factor as the thousands of fans at the games, and the millions watching on TV. The idea that people are "likely to wake up if they see a country that shares national sports with them booing" is just absurd to me. But if you're right, you're hoping that "super stupid and patriotic" Americans will react by feeling some kind of sympathy rather than just being pissed off at people disrespecting their anthem, flag, etc.? And I'd say it's not even slightly insane

Your right but sadly Canada and its leaders created a mess by relying heavily on the USA for all export. They could have done many things but sadly we have had incompetent governments that are not focused on Canadians first .
Canada is a resource based economy and we need to embrace it.
The relationship between the USA and Canada will never be the same and Trump is solely to blame .

Was this a mistake though? Like in a "normal" world, we are geographically located beside the US and no other country, they are the worlds biggest economy, and they are super close friends for centuries from fighting wars together to free trade agreements to cultural homogeneity. It makes economic and political SENSE that we trade heavily with the US. That's normally a good thing. It would take a complete lunatic to take power in the US for this to ever be threatened - but that's what happened.
This isn't to say one should only ever plan to trade with the US - that would lead to price differentials. Which is why the Liberals who "focused on Canadians first", bought and successfully built the massive transmountain pipeline so our oil can go to Asia as well, which tanked the price differential. Great job to them. Massive credit.

Yes he built a pipeline and I have always said its not the governments job but looking at the sad reality I think it may be the governments job to build Energy East and Gateway North

Natural ressources are like at the 10th/11th sector place in gdp and at the bottom for employment.
Canada isn’t a third world country anymore .
And natural ressources is such a volatile market at the mercy of the world economy , u don’t want it to become a too large part of the economy either .
Now I’m not against natural ressources ( I love oil , I make good money with it ) but I’m certainly not in favour as it becomes a major parts of Canadian economy , spend tens of billions of dollars for it either and scrapping vast amount of territory for it ….
We have a great diversify robust economy and it’s fine by me .

Selling oils fine. saving it to sell later as the value of oil goes up over the next hundreds of years is also fine. Not like we need instant gratification. If you sell too much of it your just lowering the value of your own oil your selling. its definitely a resources you don't want to flood the market with since we are going to need it for a very long time

As you can see at the bottom of the link for next year , there is 6 provinces that will receive equalization payment there is 4 other provinces that will get more money per capita then Quebec …..

Again Quebec would gladly send the poorest 2 millions (reducing Quebec population) in Alberta to assure them to start receiving equalization Payment lf you think it’s worth it !
