The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet...i'd be shocked if they lost the election now.

Just shows just how incompetent Conservatives are.

Crazy Mulcair even came out and said don't vote for the NDP.

I hope we don't spiral too far into this big tent binary 2 party system like the US.

Yeah I watched Mulcair last night and he said as well Pierre was correct in refusing the security clearance and said in his term Harper would call him up and just explain what was going on

You tried to say I didn't care about slave labour. Chinese EVs don't care one **** about sourcing materials coming from slave labour. Yet I am the one supporting tariffs on Chinese EVs and you are not. So aren't YOU the one who doesn't care about slave labour? Sounds like your BS about slave labour was just a super poorly thought through pathetic attack attempt.

Given how utterly DISGUSTING it is to accuse your fellow canadian of not caring about slave labour, can you find it within yourself to

You dont think all those EV's driving around and solar panels are not built by slave labor and the minerals required for the batteries contain minerals mined by children .

Apologize never to a guy who goes around with back handed insults all the time towards Shifty and Myself

LMAO. The guy who tried to accuse people of "not caring about slave labour" which has to be about the most over-the-top possible insult you can get is whining about "back handed insults" from me? Pathetic. Utterly pathetic.

Which do you think is likely to use more "slave labour":
1) EVs made in Canada under Canada's rules and regulations
2) EVs made in China under Chinese rules and regulations.

If you answer 2), since you want Chinese EVs to flood the Canadian market and destroy the fledging Canadian industry, wouldn't it be YOU who is pro "slave labour"?

Yes and I admitted I was wrong and you still cling to the fact Justin was a great PM

And in Shiftys defense even 60 minutes on Sunday exposed the problem with the USA /CDN border

Wow a president that actually does what he says he will do . Imagine if Trudeau did that and didnt use the excuse But its hard

The amount of times you randomly just start talking about Trudeau midsentence as if anyone but you is "clinging" to anything is hilarious. Like you just had perhaps the dumbest political misread of your life, and your retort is to repeat that you hated trudeau? We know. Move on.

The more I read about North American integration of automaking, and then look at vehicles that, for the most part, are pretty much wholly built in each country, I don't know how this is going to help the US.

It looks like Mexico could be in a world of hurt, and that Canada will be in a bad spot only if the US wants to screw itself over just to ensure Canada feels the pain.

How is the US going to make up for the 14.9Billion it used to sell to Canada.

If his plan to bully industry out of Canada and Mexico and into the US doesn't work, he will have just blown up the whole industry in his own country.

ffs

There were a total of 4 million vehicles built in Mexico in 2024, according to data from S&P Global Mobility, of which 2.5 million, or 61%, were shipped to the United States. Most of the nation’s largest automakers have assembly plants in Mexico, including General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis, which makes cars under the Ram, Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler brands; as well as Asian automakers Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi and German automakers Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen.

Canadian auto plants built 1.3 million vehicles last year, of which 1.1 million, or 86%, were exported to US dealerships. But it won’t just be Canadian and Mexican workers hurt by the tariffs. If the 3.6 million cars coming from those two countries become unaffordable, it could hit US auto parts plants that supply those countries’ assembly plants.

The US exported $35.8 billion worth of parts to Mexico last year, according to federal trade data, and another $28.4 billion of parts to Canada. Parts suppliers, who employ about 550,000 workers or nearly twice as many as work in auto assembly plants, could be forced to cut back their production and staffing if Canadian and Mexican plants shut down, even temporarily.

In addition, United States car exports to Canada and Mexico were significant, with $14.9 billion going to Canada and $4.6 billion to Mexico. If those countries retaliate with their own tariffs on US-assembled vehicles, it could force some US assembly plants to scale back their own production.

Cox Automotive estimates that about 30% of North American auto production, or roughly 20,000 vehicles a day, could be halted due to tariffs, although that assumes there would be tariffs both on auto parts and assembled vehicles.

The U.S. economy has become too financials and yet they want even more tax cuts for the top earners to buy more stocks shrug .

Real economy vs financial economy .
Why be an engineer building real stuff at 200k when u can just do math analyzing stocks making 1 million in finance for a firm …

Do you see how hilariously inept you now look when you were screeching SECURE THE BORDER as soon as Trump said jump and everyone but you figured out the border had nothing to do with the economic warfare and now the proof is absolutely clear we were right and your talking points were stupid?

Nothing ensures quality in domestic manufacturing like protectionist trade policy. Throw in a little pinch of deregulation, and you know what how about we just weaken some consumer protections while we're at it too. No use for those since the logical endstate of all this is an era of affordable & super-reliable automobiles.

Congrats to the UAW I guess USA USA USA etc

Also a reminder that here in this universe, Wayne Gretzky supports Trump, and Axl Rose is a liberal. You know that Axl Rose, the singer from backwoods Indiana who once railed on immigrants, called people f____ts, and dropped the N-word, and all in the same song.

In other news I paid off my house early this morning. I have literally zero credit debt at all for the first time in a while, just utilities and taxes and Netflix and things like that. Think I'm going to go buy a Mazda, something cheap though like a CX-50 or whtaever. You all have a great day

I guess Trudeau was just threading the needle perfectly when he committed funding, more resources and a fentanyl czar to SECURE THR BORDER. Or he just inept.

You do realize two things can be true

Yes Trump used the border and fentanyl to impose tariffs. Its required by law to have a threat to National Security

Canada has done a terrible job on Fentanyl and immigration

Its kind of like Climate Change is real and Nothing Canada does will change that

So the BC government and a few others have stop offering subsidies for Tesla's How stupid is this do they not realize Elon only owns a small % of the company as it is publicly traded

I wouldn't be shocked if BC pension funds hold Tesla shares

Incompetence

The auto tariff thing just guaranteed a Carney win. Wild.

You’re SO close now! Trump pretended it was about fentanyl. You joined his chants despite everyone else knowing it wasn’t about SECURE THE BORDER. Trudeau played along anyways because WTF else can one do….but it got us nowhere as the tariffs are wrecking havoc on us regardless. So now we just suffer and make fun of the people who chanted the irrelevant Trump slogans.

Ok. If one really cared about fentanyl reduction, focusing on the 8000km porous border is about the last place you’d start. We’ve seen how feckless the trillion dollar war on drugs in the us has been. So like sure there is some germs of truth that fentanyl is a legit crisis most countries struggle to deal with, but none of that is really relevant in todays discussion about tariffs. It’s just an empty pretext.

I don't think I chanted anything. The words secure the border were in the original truth social post. So what do you do when you have no leverage, you secure the border. Which is what happened, which is what paused tariffs at the time. You were the one chanting for war that we must band together and fight! But Trudeau didn't, he threaded the needle perfectly and committed funds, resources and a fentanyl czar to help secure the border.

Right, much more logical to assume when Trump says he'd rather deal with a liberal and is not friends with Pierre he is actually endorsing him. Also that the tariffs won Carney the election and Trump is so out of control he just couldn't resist imposing Tariffs to help Pierre win the election.

lol.

I've said ITT that PP doesnt deserve to be lumped in with Trump the way he is. But theres a long record of Trump, Elon, et al favoring right wingers in global elections including PP very specifically.

You taking a transparent Tump dig at the Libs as a real endorsement when it was obviously done in reaction to the momentum he handed the Libs is very strange. It could not be more transparent.

I honestly dont think he cares much but his people obviously want the Cons and you have to be willfully ignorant to think otherwise.
