The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

You're right! Trudeau and the liberals have threaded the needle perfectly. It was the right decision to not call parliament back for an emergency, under the threat of annexing and all the pain and suffering Canada in enduring. Did the UK also stab us in the back last week?

It's called the big beautiful bill, what should I call it?

So...nothing? Just more whining and sniveling that Canada had an election - ya know precisely the thing the CPC was calling for? Just repeating trump's slogan? That's it?

Sure, if in magic land there was some great for Canada "trade offer" that would have magically prevented all of this, then I'm all for it. But you can't just pretend it exists without telling us a single detail of what this magical trade offer that somehow both appeases trump enough so he doesn't attack us and isn't complete capitulation for Canadian business actually is. Any adult in the room knows that these types of trade deals are the type of things that happen over a formal negotiation process for USMCA 2.0 or whatever, so if you think they shouldn't have had an election and...uh...passed some....uh....legislation.....with.....uh....CPC support???.....to....uh.....prevent.....uh.....

Ya you're going to need to be MUCH clearer.

U got both TDS syndrome.
The hateful one vs Trudeau
The cultish one with trump.

Ps: Trudeau is gone and wasnt even in the last election.
Keep rambling like your cult leader about Clinton’s and outdated stuff …
Lay off cigarettes, your brain gets fried a lot .

CPC spent years calling for an election. I also don't care what they did, they weren't in power and didn't win the last election so what difference does it make. So are you going to say anything? Like what would you be happy with from Carney in a trade deal, did the UK stab Canada in the back?

So regarding ArticKnights post you don't feel Canada is losing leverage, we did all we could do and other deals being made is ok? I'm sure it all would have played out the same regardless if we had an election or not.

The reality is Trump is acting in what he thinks is in the best interest of the USA . In many cases he is correct on trade imbalances while on Canada I think he is wrong

The reality is we will have Mark Carney for a full term and have to rely on him to put Canada in the best position. Im just glad its Carney not Trudeau/Freeland or we would be truly screwed

I hope he create a ministerial position for expanding our international trade partners and dumbs a DEI one 😀

Lets see what happens with cabinet and they may let us know what direction he is headed . Shifty is right though as more deals are struck our bargaining position gets worse

did the UK stab Canada in the back?.

Is this just playing the idiot? Did the UK slap massive tariffs on us? The UK has a trade surplus with the US, they are the "easy" country to make a few small tweaks around the margin, call it a trade deal, and not shockingly surprising that they seemed to be the first. Still, they have the 10% tariffs on them iirc.

Ultimately I'd be hoping that Canada as well can find a way through USMCA renegotiations to not be hurt too badly, while mitigating Trump's obscene threats to our economy. You're the one who magically claims Carney should have some trade "offer" that could have avoided all this - why don't you tell us what would go in it?

So regarding ArticKnights post you don't feel Canada is losing leverage, we did all we could do and other deals being made is ok? I'm sure it all would have played out the same regardless if we had an election or not.

Maybe? Maybe not? The global situation is very, very much influx. Trump has backed down many times now both for Canada, he just backed down with China, exactly how much leverage who has at what moment it's probably more of a rorschach test than the type of thing to gleefully come to a forum and trying to score partisan political points about winning energy and auroras and big beautiful tax bills from.

My post wasn't so much about leverage, as I see few spots where we have any leverage. The US can outlast us and out punish us in any economic battle.

My main point was that I thought Canada would be ok because I was 95% sure that Trump's grand plan was going to implode, and many of his "wants" (like bullying the auto sector to abandon Canada in favour of the US), would not happen because the automakers could rightly say to Trump (and without fear of retaliation) that the automotive industry in US will be "lucky" if it can get back to where it was, and it will need to earn the trust of consumers and dealers on its reliability to deliver, and that any further talk of dismantling the integrated automotive sector in North America will have lasting damage.

In other words, the big three could hint that Trump has done enough damage, so just STFU and let us try to get out of this mess.

That was my dream vision of how this ends. Trump screws his citizens and has to unwind his idiotic plan just to keep the markets from tanking. Let's face it, when you are bailing water (liked I hoped would happen) you are not too worried about where the aluminum in your bucket came from.

But, the pause with China and the deal with the UK gives me much less hope that this is going to blow-up on Trump.

And, as long as he has momentum, he has no need to concede to anything with respect to Canada.

Our biggest leverage was a complete failure of his plan..

So, as others said... time to make deals with other countries, and soon. If we can make enough deals to show that we "can" move our products elsewhere, then his tune might change.

The pause with china is still 30% tariffs. The trade deal with UK is still 10% tariffs. Canada/Mexico is variable lots of 25% tariffs depending on the product. 10% tariffs on much of the rest of the world. Ya sure a complete immediately collapse if things had stayed at 145% or if he had put in those higher worldwide tariffs he threatened would have been one thing, I still think it is quite likely that we're going to see economic slowdown and high prices etc in the states that build pressure against trump's tariff agenda. But it's so hard to really predict anything right now, so probably not worth the toilet paper that's written on.

lololol freeland reportedly OUT of cabinet.

lololol freeland reportedly OUT of cabinet.

To close to Trudeau let’s hope Jolie and Guilbeault are gone as well

remember that time where you started making up sexist claims that joly was sleeping with trudeau. Good times. Now that he is gone, do you recognize how sad that was?

lololol freeland reportedly OUT of cabinet.

Very nasty person. Thanks Trump! Looking out for Canada again.

CTV corrected the record - she’s front bench. Perhaps an anti-Freeland faux leaked.

Funny how trumpkins even pick up on things like “nasty”. I wonder if he (and thus you) only use it for women.

yup me making up things about an EV slowdown

Another Trudeau Cabinet

Julie Dabrusin becomes Minister of Environment and Climate Change. OK that is great good friends of Steven and even worked for him for 4 years wants to abolish the oil sands

Well looks like we know the direction Carney is going

The two ministers that quit but than realized I can win and came back get prominent roles one is totally incompetent

24 brand new faces gives..."another trudeau cabinet". Man the Trudeau Derangement System hits hard, no way to please these guys. It's actually a pretty good mix of new and experience people, also notably including some brand new carney picks like Tim Hodgson:

I ultimately think this is going to say a LOT more about what is going to happen with energy development than lozen reading danielle smith's lines is going to say.

Look at the Front Bench and it’s a Trudeau cabinet and yes Tim Hodgson offers Alberta and Saskatchewan some hope
Heck Global and CTV said what I said . Carney is relying on him being the major change which can be true

lol the trudeau derangement syndrome just infects every post these days huh. Like bringing in a HUGE number of new people is a great and a big change - but nobody expects or should expect to completely hollow out anyone who worked for Trudeau. You WANT the experience and proven competence of some people like freeland and anand, to pair with the industry experience of Carney guys like Hodgson. Even the people staying in, most are in a new post compared to the last "real" Trudeau cabinet (i.e. the one before freeland took him down).

Thoughts on mortgage rates in Canada? Being offered 5 year 4.02 and 3 year 4.12 on a property I bought.

Oh so now our culture minister needs to contradict what the PM says about pipelines .

I mean, he's basically "minister of quebec" these days. And ya, quebec is going to be a problem for the hypothetical idea of an east-west pipeline, not that any company is here to suggest such an thing. With transmountain not yet full it isn't completely obvious which pipeline the pro-pipeline folks actually realistically want.

You do know that you cant ship Natural gas and Oil at the same time through a pipeline?

The man has no credibility he was the one if you end the consumer carbon tax I am gone. Total Bluff when he realized he had no qualifications other than a MP

Its Like Sean Fraser I am resigning to spend more time with my family as my kids are young ...... Than oh wait I could win I am coming back to show my kids we gotta keep the fight

It's funny chasing down the TDS rabbit holes. He did NOT say he would resign, and explicitly denied it here: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/guilbea.... What he DID say was this:

“As long as I’m the environment minister, there will be no more exemptions to carbon pricing,” Guilbeault told The Canadian Press in an interview.

“It’s certainly not ideal that we did it and in a perfect world we would not have to do that, but unfortunately we don’t live in a perfect world.”

Well he is no longer environment minister, and is in a more or less irrelevant portfolio for anyone that isn't in quebec. That's fine, the political situation changed, rightly or wrongly. You can hate the carbon tax or hate doing anything ever for the environment, but he was actually a pretty good minister from a pure execution matter and this attempt to try and pretend he has no "credibility" because the political situation changed and he was removed is just stupid.

TDS cuts deep

Correct me if I am wrong was hew not the environment minister when Carney cut the carbon tax ?

LMAO. You're trying to use the shuffle less than 10 days before an election was called as your grand proof against your TDS hatred for Guilbeault? Stop debasing yourself with this TDS bs. OBVIOUSLY the first real cabinet of carney's that isn't just caretaker mode for the election is the 30th, not the trudeau era 29th that got a shuffle at the very end.
