Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
In 2023 there were 1832 anti Jewish hate crimes and 236 anti Islam in the US according to the fbi
I'm curious if the 2024 ratios
It's a silly discussion. Neither should happen
After 911 when Islamaphobia was running rampant I never heard normal people defend it by saying "well Muslims shouldn't have blown up buildings"
But normal people rationalizing antisemitism by blaming Israel's actions or my opinion on how Jews should react is beyond ridiculous
Sorry not sorry
--I dont know how serious this is, but other than acting as a forward offense/defense of the IRI (which was Hezbollah's main function), one of Hezbollah's other main functions was propping up the Assad regime. It is widely believed without Hezbollah, Assad would have fallen a long time ago (for good or bad). So it will be interesting to see if Hezbollah being weakened like it has will have fallout in Syria.
Hopefully trump puts more sanctions on Iran. I am not sure if hezbollah will be able to survive
nobody believes those numbers. they list hate crimes as things like waving a Palestinian flag or eating Watermelon.

You believe all hamas propaganda but never antisemitism. Ever. You make light of antisemitism constantly. So nobody gives a **** whether you believe the statistics. If it doesn't fit your narrative you don't believe it
You can do whatever you want but in the current culture Jews criticizing Israel causes global antisemitism.
Maybe not causes but normalizes. Or allows it to happen
So I personally believe Jews are doing a disservice by doing it
I'm allowed to believe that
So your take is that liberal Jews are causing antisemitism?
Corpus, get in here
oh btw, tell me more about college campuses
and dont forget the chemical weapons attack on Columbia students.
nobody believes those numbers. they list hate crimes as things like waving a Palestinian flag or eating Watermelon.
Of course. And I’m concerned that conflicts in the Middle East create more bigots on both sides which is why the longer this goes on the worse it gets
Giving up prisoners for hostages and allowing hamas to stay in power caused this in the first place
Letting sinwar out in a prisoner hostage swap in 2011 showed that Israel will let anyone out to save its own people.
What should isreal do now?
Give up thousands of prisoners for the 30n or 40 possible live hostages left end let hamas restart its tunnel operation?
Seriously. What should they do. End the war is not an answer. What if the immediate solution even short term?
Don't twist my words please cross
Antisemitism always exists.
This hate disguised as "right to protest" is the issue
No no no, you just said *Jews criticizing Israel causes antisemitism* but that the actual actions of Israel should and do not.
That’s what you’ve argued here. Explain that.
You ignore the next thing I said in purpose
You're a ****ing mod. Can you at least argue in good faith

The numbers are not relevant. But we all have eyes and ears, and the establishment cant gaslight us into believing what has been going on the last year in progressive circles is just peaceful protest on behalf of the Palestinian people; with no ulterior motives.
What is true is that most of the performative antisemitism (in the US at least) is coming from the progressive left, which as a group are generally non violent; so the actual violence has been little. And that is something important to keep in mind; is that not all discriminaiton is equal in how serious it is and how it should be handled.
But that doesn't mean it isn't happening and real. And the more leftists try to deny the reality that the rest of us live in, the more they are going to be tuned out.
The truth is it may contribute to actual antisemitism. Acting like Israel is an evil entity. Holding Israel to impossible standards. It does make people hate Jews the way it is portrayed
But the bigger problem is what I said. It made colleges think it was okay to not allow Jews in library. Or my wife school telling her that her shirt with a Jewish star was offensive to some students and she should choose more wisely while allowing Christmas shirts
You ignore the next thing I said in purpose
You're a ****ing mod. Can you at least argue in good faith
These are your words:
Do you think the way Israel is handling this war is making the above issue better or worse…?
It shouldn't matter? Unless you think Jews around the world deserve to be attacked based on anything Israel does?
Wild stuff to say that criticizing the government is what causes antisemitism and not the governments actions themselves. AND that it’s okay to criticize other Jews but not Israel.
As a mod, I’ll keep my opinion on that to myself.
It's a silly discussion. Neither should happen
After 911 when Islamaphobia was running rampant I never heard normal people defend it by saying "well Muslims shouldn't have blown up buildings"
lol, normal people were absolutely saying this post 9/11 and using 9/11 as an excuse to commit abominable crimes against Muslims.
The truth is it may contribute to actual antisemitism. Acting like Israel is an evil entity. Holding Israel to impossible standards. It does make people hate Jews the way it is portrayed
This is a broken worldview and deeply fascist at its core. Sorry.
Israel is not above reproach, and certainly not from the very people it claims to represent. To place the blame on other Jews for the rise in antisemitism rather than the disgusting actions of a far-right out of control government is actually shameful. Shame.
lol, normal people were absolutely saying this post 9/11 and using 9/11 as an excuse to commit abominable crimes against Muslims.
And I am sure you were making the same argument that Islamist govt and non govt actors were to blame and were making the world less safe for Muslims. And it was their responsibility to module their behavior, and the responsibility of Muslims to hold them to account.
Just kidding, we know this was not the case, and this is a giant double standard.

The problem is you (and more generally progressives) would never make the same argument other other way. So it is just. giant double standard that makes things worse; which is Met's point.
You can give your opinion. That's the point.
https://www.state.gov/defining-antisemit...
Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavor.
Applying double standards by requiring of it a behavior not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation.
At least the US government considers these antisemitism
You actually said in writing that liberal Jews are the cause of the rise in antisemitism for allowing it to happen. Just totally broken ideology.
Nobody has said any of those things Mets. You’re arguing against imaginary monsters. I think Israel should exist and Israel should also be good.
But I’ve already seen enough from you with the Jew-blaming for the rise is antisemitism. Incredible stuff. I’ll let my family know they should really blame themselves if they are attacked.
You actually said in writing that liberal Jews are the cause of the rise in antisemitism for allowing it to happen. Just totally broken ideology.
I didn't say the cause. I said it helped contributed to colleges allowing it
Keep harping on the one statement and ignore everything else i said. Unless you want to have an actual discussion but I don't think you do
