Silwan specifically has been in the news a lot, as Israel is clearing out unauthorized buildings. With the usual "ethnic cleansing" rhetoric.

What is real interesting about this case, is that this area was actually a Jewish neighborhood that Britain in the 1930s ethnically cleansed of the Jews who had lived there peacefully for hundreds of years; in order to appease Arab nationalists to procure concessions for petroleum rights.

This case actually highlights a giant problem with the progressive concept of "indigenous," which basically means the last group of people to live in an area that aren't coded "white" and ignoring the entire history up to that point (including claims by any peoples who previously lived in the area who themselves were ethnically cleansed, especially if such persons are currently coded white).

It was sarcasm. Certain posters believe that Epstein was a Mossad agent who lured powerful people to his Island for the purpose of garnering blackmail on behalf of the Israeli government.

The "Palestinians" ethnically cleansed out all the Jews from Bethlehem (and the entire area of historic Judea). Jesus would have grown up in Tel Aviv, if his family survived the pogroms. Like the rest of the world, most "Palestinians" know no real history, even recent history, of the region. Just the propaganda they have been slop fed. So they would probably be surprised to learn the local Arabs were extremely resistant to adopting the imperial colonial term "Palestine" up until 1967. And it wasn't until Egypt and Jordan abdicated responsibility for them that they bent the knee to their Western sponsors and did so out of desperation more than anything.

These seem to be the elites expressing contempt for democracy, for the very idea that they have to be accountable. It's essentially a poisoning of communication and, by extension, any potential for peace.

Regardless of Israel's motives for recognizing Somaliland (deporting Palestinians there is complete bad faith nonsense of course); the fact that leftists and Islamists who are so passionate about Palestinian "self-determination" but are so against Somalialand (and dozens of other populations aiming for self-determination from highly dysfunctional situations) shows just how bad faith these actors are.

The western left and Islamists do not believe in people having self-determination as a first principle. They mostly believe might makes right, and it is perfectly fine for minority groups to be horrible persecuted, as long as they are on the giving end of the persecuting. This is, and always has been, about promoting Islamism and attacking Western civilization.

Whatever it originally was meant to be, at this point "international law" is just a bad faith exercise for the rest of the world to cynically abuse Western good faith and extract as much as possible. There is definitely an argument that the UN has outlived its usefulness and should be scrapped.

Palestine is the ancient geographical name of the region, more ancient than 'Israel' or 'Judea', which were political subdivisions of Palestine. The Zionist colonial settlers of modern Israel are, with virtually no exceptions, non-indigenous. On the West Bank they're nearly all Americans of European ancestry.

There was international law before WWII. I'm not familiar with its detail, League of Nations and whatever else, but I'm pretty sure Truman violated it when he firebombed and nuked Japan, intentionally killing civilians by the hundreds of thousands.

International law seems to exist for the purpose of selective prosecution of the less powerful nations by the more powerful nations. It's just there to support whatever fantasy casus belli any American imperialist in power can dream up. The application of international law to the alleged perpetrators of 9/11 was especially interesting in that no evidence, not even fake evidence, was required to, in effect, sanction war. The Taliban was willing to cooperate in the capture of AQ if the U.S. provided evidence of their guilt but the U.S. declined and chose war based on mere empty assertion.

The history of "the West" is a history of constant war and constant attempts at treaties which are constantly broken. It's just a ton of brutal violence followed up by proclamations of it being the only civilized entity on the planet, over and over again. Israel takes this to the extreme, targeting children for assassination, laughing and celebrating when it kills children, and then proclaiming itself the world leader in human rights.

References to international law by officials in the West are just the West trolling the world, including its domestic populations, at this point. And you keep voting for it because, you say, you are scared of Trump winning lol.

Regardless, in the late 19th-early 20th century it was a name the Arabs felt was imposed on them by Britain, and they rejected it until 1967, when the Arab Palestinian identity was invented for geopolitical reasons. Conversely, the original Zionists were receptive towards the term, and used it to describe themselves until founding Israel.

All the Jews in the West Bank are "non indigenous" because the indigenous Jews were all genocided and ethnically cleansed in the early 20th century by the Arabs and British*.

*In fairness the British didn't have a lot of recourse, because Arabs were fully committed to slaughtering every Jew down to the last man, woman and child; and British overseers had no capacity to stop this other than evacuating all the Jews.
