Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
In Afghanistan if a woman is raped, she is charged with the crime of zina (adultery under Islamic law) and often given a long prison sentence, stoned to death and/or killed by her family for honor. If she was a virgin and single, she can get a commuted sentence by marrying her rapist. The UN is mostly agnostic about this.

In 2018 Afghanistan joined the Human Rights Council, where they repeated condemned Israel.

Just a reminder the UN is completely compromised, corrupt and should be treated with nothing but contempt by anyone with any shred of decency; especially when it comes to their constant humoring of blatant antisemitism.

This suggests the UN has no issues with Afghanistan which is far from true. Here's the resolutions against Afghanistan:

Israel should have done better with civilians they will say

Seems like a great time for Hamas to give back the hostages, lay down their arms and engage in a cease fire.

the thing they have offered since like 2006?

by Bluegrassplayer k

I mean its great they got this drone. But obviously using small arms to neutralize drones isn't something we should expect to work very well. If this happened at night it would be pretty much impossible to accomplish it seems.

Lets go to the tape shall we. This is the "reformed" charter. Doesn't seem to be a lot of wiggle room for a ceasefire or peaceful solution. Looks like they are just going to have to keep going until Israel is destroyed. Although I am sure they would appreciate Israel engage in a unilateral ceasefire so they can regroup and rearm for the next go around at a time and place of their choosing.

Palestine is a land that was seized by a racist, anti-human and colonial Zionist project that was founded on a false promise (the Balfour Declaration), on recognition of a usurping entity and on imposing a fait accompli by force.

Palestine symbolises the resistance that shall continue until liberation is accomplished, until the return is fulfilled and until a fully sovereign state is established with Jerusalem as its capital.

2. Palestine, which extends from the River Jordan in the east to the Mediterranean in the west and from Ras al-Naqurah in the north to Umm al-Rashrash in the south, is an integral territorial unit. It is the land and the home of the Palestinian people. The expulsion and banishment of the Palestinian people from their land and the establishment of the Zionist entity therein do not annul the right of the Palestinian people to their entire land and do not entrench any rights therein for the usurping Zionist entity.

3. Palestine is an Arab Islamic land. It is a blessed sacred land that has a special place in the heart of every Arab and every Muslim.

Israeli former national security officials and business leaders blast Netanyahu ahead of his speech to Congress

A group of senior Israeli figures including former national security officials, academics and business leaders have sent US congressional leadership a blistering letter accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is set to speak to Congress on Wednesday, of threatening both Israeli and American national security.

The letter calls Netanyahu an “existential threat” and paints him as selfishly concerned with his political survival and singularly to blame for failing to defeat Hamas in the current war in Gaza. It also highlights Netanyahu’s ongoing legal troubles, including the fact he’s been being charged with bribery and fraud.

Among the more than 30 signatories are five former senior officials from the Mossad intelligence service, including retired director Tamir Pardo, two former heads of the Israeli military and a wide-ranging list of other former military, security, diplomatic, legal and business officials.

who cares what the charter says? they literally have offered it many times. read the links I gave you.

From the Wikipedia page:
"and offered Israel a long-term truce if Israel recognized the Palestinians' national rights; and stated that Israel rejected this proposal"

With the link going to Palestinian right to return.
"and their descendants (c. 5 million people as of 2012),[3] have a right to return and a right to the property they themselves or their forebears left behind or were forced to leave in what is now Israel"

I don't see a world where Israel accepts this so they are destined to conflict where Israel has a massive military advantage for the foreseeable future over Gaza. Going to be another rough 80 years.

everything is negotiable

This might be an erroneous position, but some of the Israeli right view American involvement as having worked against Israeli interests in totality. As the US has repeatedly forced Israel to appease its enemies, normally for concessions that benefit the US more than Israel.

The more US foreign policy turns to appeasement and refusal to escalate, the more allies and geopolitical influence it may lose. The US has already lost much influence in Africa, and the Middle East may be the next stone t

This thought may be giving the US, the country that thought invading Iraq was a good idea and couldn't see in the end it would just end up under Iran's sphere, way too much credit.
At the beginning of this **** show I pretty much balked at the premise that Israel was facing an existential threat. Seeing now that they would rather evacuate 100k civilians or whatever from the north and continue to eat missiles from Hezbollah rather than open up a 2nd front. And the bit of panic they get from some delays in weapon shipments from the US, I have changed my tune. If Hamas was ever able to coordinate with Hezbollah and some 3rd party an invasion of Israel, they would be in some deep ****. Maybe the US knows if things escalate to that point, they're going to need to actively participate in Israel's defense. Hence they're constantly trying to reign Israel in. Just a thought.

Israel’s doomed failure to eradicate Hezbollah deterred Hezbollah from kidnapping hostages for decades.

I am having a hard time understanding why some people have such a hard time understanding the idea of restoring deterrence, at a minimum, when it clearly has worked in the past for Israel whereas appeasement got Israel nothing but pain.

Because it can cause escalation?
Hezbollah admitted later that if they knew what Israel's response was going to be, they would have never conducted that raid in 2006. But now they know the floor of an Israeli response and can prepare accordingly. So instead of not attacking Israel as deterrence, they just plan better for the response and actions from both sides become more violent.

Hamas just keeps taking Ls while the IDF keeps winning.

This doesn’t make sense. And either way, what I think you’re trying to say is easily dismissed by looking history and current events.

Because they don’t live in the same reality as the rest of us. Their viewpoint can only be formed by living in a fantasy land where terrorist death cults can be reasoned with and defeated by peace and love. To them the conflict is a Disney movie.

Luckily, there aren’t any of these people trusted with national security lol!

the IDF wins by murdering civilians for sport. 100s of thousands at this point. imagine supporting that? but the mods protect people like you so I will leave it that.

btw, how many "hostages" are left?

If you refer to organizations like Hamas as resistance fighters you have no moral high ground to stand on. I support the IDF preventing another Oct 7 which has been going quite well. Thanks!
