Saying all men are trash is bigoted. It’s also hyperbolic and somewhat memey vs nobody is memeing about Palestine.

I feel like you are having a mini meltdown over a nothing burger and trying to make it a Royale with Cheese.

Fixed that for ya.

Nothing is quite as manly as having a multi-week meltdown because a woman rustled your jimmies with a throwaway quip.

How is it "memey"?

Nobody is having a "meltdown" about it, we're just unhappy about the double standards.

Just make sure you remember it's a nothing burger the next time someone else says "all [group] are [negative].

I might have to go to some other threads where I can freely express my opinions on Muslims now.

I don't think I'm having a meltdown at all actually and like I said, excuses-such as yours just now- are being made for one form of bigotry and how those having issue with the bigotry are really the ones at fault, not the actual bigot. And if it was a once off I just might be inclined to write it off as memey. That's not the case here though. CN has quite often expressed this opinion, so there is a pattern here. And as a mod, making such comments, who has regularly given out bans and warnings- arguably more so than other mods - to posters making the same generalisations, is not a good look.

If in future, other posters engage in bigotry, be it against black/trans/Jewish/female/Muslim/gay people, I take I we can just view it as edgy and memey, and anyone calling the poster can be seen as the real ones at fault and are having meltdowns? Why have moderation at all if that's the case?

Yeah that must be it.

Also and just to clarify I certainly recognise context. Previously CN was called a man hater for correctly stating wives were most likely to be murdered by their husbands and indeed women are mostly murdered by men I defendedthe comment at the time as statistically she's absolutely spot on and her comment was in no way outlandish.
That's a million miles away from disparaging all men. It's no different than saying all any demographic is trash. And there's no justification for such comments regardless of whatever spin you and others insist on attempting here.

You accidentally fell ass first into the answer. Why didn’t you list white people above?

Because, similar to men, you are aware they are not an oppressed group. If a person of color generalized that white people are trash, I think you’d understand the sentiment at least to some degree and not assume they mean every single white person is garbage., but rather the structures that uphold their supremacy. Why then does the analogy provoke you so much when it’s men?

You don’t need to answer; I know why. It’s just food for thought.

A good rule of thumb I learned through interacting with intersectional feminists is “If it doesn’t apply, let it fly.” Your reaction here has been… telling.

Be less reactive and defensive, and more thoughtful and curious. Ya know, more feminine, if you will.

The mods don't give a **** anymore, dude. Go ahead and post whatever bigoted nonsense you feel like.

lol, you can say whatever you like about Muslims here.

-She has a point. In this economy 5 incomes is better than 2. And they do say it takes a village to raise a child. What is old is new again. Maybe it is time for polygamy to make a comeback.

Didn't take you for a fan of Hillary Clinton's most-quoted pearl of wisdom, but anyway, polygamy is all good if everyone's a consenting adult, so, go for it!

by chillrob m

Yep. I got a temp ban for saying something about Palestinians that was not nearly as bad as saying they were all trash. I remember Luciom got one for calling boat immigrants to Italy "garbage people" or something like that.

The reason I stopped participating here for several months was because the moderator was the most bigoted person in the forum.

lol

1. People on the other side of your dumbass arguments get banned all the time too. Stop crying.
2. Doesn't Crossnerd have a young child? I would presume she doesn't think the father of her child is "trash". It's ALMOST like she was engaging in the common posting trick known as "exaggeration for effect".
3. Are you people autistic? I don't mean this as an insult whatsoever, I'm genuinely curious, it baffles me to witness the struggles you guys routinely have with non-literal language.

Overbroad generalizations don't become intrinsically more accurate just because they are aimed at a group that traditionally has been in power rather than oppressed. They just become something that I give less of a **** about debating, which is adjacent to the point you are making.

My point was if your first instinct upon reading something like that is to go “Not ME! Not ALL men!” then at least definitely yes you

De-center yourselves for once

We have an ACTUAL IDF MURDERER posting in the Israel/Palestine thread, I think you'll be ok with whatever moronic and bigoted take you wanna spew about Muslims.

Let me guess, something along the lines of "All the Abrahamic religions are bad, but Islam especially so, because (insert something somebody told you happened in the Quran). They don't even have a modern culture!"

by Karl_TheOG_Marx m

It's ALMOST like she was engaging in the common posting trick known as "exaggeration for effect".

I truly didn't give a **** about what Crossnerd said, mainly because I think that men still hold most of the cards so who gives a **** and quit crying about the comment.

That said, my personal preference is to avoid exaggeration for effect. That's mainly because I don't want to listen to some xenophobic idiot explain that he was exaggerating for effect and then point to something hyperbolic I said to justify his own asshattery.

How about just multifamily polyamorous communes? It's my new pitch, I call it communism.

Chillrob and Corpus aren't even representing the discussion accurately.

The conversation was about liberal vs conservative wymyn and who was hotter

That evolved into CN saying something along the lines of "there isn't a male lonliness epidemic, there is a male loser epidemic" (I agree)

This triggered many of the mysgynysts in this forum

Dunyain tried to attack her view point to which she responds

Where are you getting that from? I’ve never differentiated between men all being trash.

You guys are trying to get trolled and just feeding into it, then acting incensed when you get trolled.

The original conversation that lead to the comment wasn't related to politics, was firmly mysygnystyc, and was allowed to happen uninhibited. This is because the moderation policy under me is significantly more lax than it has been previously. This means your comments about previous moderation actions no longer have any bearing on reality. Thats the past, its time to move on.

You guys can express shitty opinions as long as the bulk of your content isn't shitty opinions. This is incredibly consistent with my messaging and modding the entire time I've been a mod.

Hope that helps

by coordi m

The conversation was about liberal vs conservative wymyn and who was hotter

That's true. And it's astonishing that we didn't end up in a productive place when this idiotic debate was the starting point.

by Crossnerd m

You accidentally fell ass first into the answer. Why didn’t you list white people above?

Because, similar to men, you are aware they are not an oppressed group.

Sorry but are you really this insular? We were oppressed under colonialism and we're "white people". "White people" have also been oppressed in Russia under the Soviet Union & Vladimir Putin, Romania & Albania under Ceaucescu & Hoxa, Iraq under Saddam Hussein and Syria under Bashar Al Assad and probably will be under the knew quasi theocratic government. In America they haven't been, but America isn't the world, so again are you really that insular?

If a person of color generalized that white people are trash, I think you’d understand the sentiment at least to some degree and not assume they mean every single white person is garbage.,

No I wouldn't actually. If a person of colour- particularly an America poc- opined that some white people are racist a-holes, and that in America poc still can face discrimination then of course I'd recognise the context. If they simply said white people, then I'd call bullshit. The Irish are white. We never oppressed anyone or engaged in colonialism and were victims of such a practice ourselves. There are American white people whose parents came over from Ireland or Romania or Brazil in 1976 and aren't part of the "system which discriminated against poc before that via segragation and other discriminatory practices.

but rather the structures that uphold their supremacy. Why then does the analogy provoke you so much when it’s men?

See above. Men have raped and murdered. To a lesser degree, so have women in both instances. Doesn't mean all men or women do. It's the all part I have an issue with, just as I would with an opinion mooted against any other demographic.

You don’t need to answer; I know why. It’s just food for thought.

A good rule of thumb I learned through interacting with intersectional feminists is “If it doesn’t apply, let it fly.” Your reaction here has been… telling.

Yeah I know, I'm the one that's really at fault here for calling you on your bigotry and you're most certainly not the one at fault for being the bigot, I hear ya etc etc. Looking forward to next time you drop the banhammer on someone for saying something you consider offensive.

by coordi m

Oh damn, is there going to be a purge?

by coordi m

That evolved into CN saying something along the lines of "there isn't a male lonliness epidemic, there is a male loser epidemic" (I agree)

I'm on your side on this stuff, but I gotta say, there IS a loneliness epidemic, both male and female. There are reams of evidence suggesting an increase of isolation with each new passing generation. More and more of our lives are spent on the internet, right? This whole thing is an effect of the overly transactional nature of human sociality under capitalism.

The primary motivator of the incel movement was loneliness. Now, many/most of the incels are also "losers", sure, but the loneliness comes first.

Do you get this upset when Irish people call the English trash?

by Crossnerd m

Be less reactive and defensive, and more thoughtful and curious. Ya know, more feminine, if you will.

No problem. You be sure to do the same thing when someone generalises about any other demographic. In the spirit of thoughtfulness and curiosity and any other nice sounding thing you wish to add to justify your stance.
