Ukraine-Russia War Take 2
Here is what the preliminary take on the Ukraine thread disappearing is:
The site was hit with a massive spam attack where hundreds of spam threads were created. In the case where, for example, I see a single spam thread and delete it, that is called a soft delete, and mods can still see them but forum members cannot. Those deletion can be undone.
When a massive attack hits with hundreds of threads, an admin uses a different procedure where the hundreds of spam threads are merged and then hard deleted, where the threads are gone, and no note is left behind. As I have mentioned with my own experience of just soft deleting a large number of posts, sometimes a post or thread gets checked or merged accidentally and is deleted by mistake. Dealing with hundreds of spam threads takes a sledgehammer, not a scalpel.
It appears that our Ukraine thread may have gotten caught up in that recent net of spam threads. If so, it is likely gone for good. I cant say this for sure, and am awaiting comments from admins on this issue. Yes, this sucks. And hopefully there was some other software glitch that caused the disappearance, and we may recover it in the future.
But in the meantime, I have created this new Ukraine-Russia War thread to enable the conversation to continue. Obviously continuity with earlier discussions will be lost. There is no way around that. So as best as possible, let's pick up the conversation with recent events and go from there.
If you have any questions about this, please post them in the mod thread, not here. Let's keep this thread going with posts about the war, not the disappearance of the old thread.
Thanks.
Seem trump said Ukraine started the war because they didn’t make a deal ?
How Canadian should take that ?
POS !
I dont know if this is what Putin wants (for all I know he is perfectly happy being a part of BRICS and having NK, China and the IRGC as allies); but it seems Trump/Rubio are offering Russia an off-ramp to normalize relations with the Western world. But fairly or unfairly, the plan seems to involve making Zelensky the fall guy.
Although dubious morally, there is a certain realpolitik sense in trying to bring Russia back into the Western sphere of influence, and away from China.
For the last couple years China has had Russia bent backwards over a barrel, giving them pennies on the dollar for their resources and even forcing Russia to give them land*. And my understanding is a lot of Russia's elite are very bitter about this.
*My understanding is the Chinese view this as payback for how the USSR similarly abused China during the 50s-60s.

For the last cou
Not sure how apparently appeasing a bully is useful even in a realpolitik sense but that appears to be what the Trump admin is currently doing.
Hopefully peace is coming soon!

Look at our relationship with Turkey. Turkey has been the king of genocide to create an ethnostate for most of the 20th-21st century. It is pretty much everything Israel is falsely accused of being. But for realpolitik reasons we are very appeasing of them.
Even this thing with Mayor Adams in NY is all due to Turkish corruption. But that isn't even part of the story. We are completely hands off with Turkey, and have been for decades.
lol "gravy train", this guy is really sick and a lot of the escalation towards the invasion happened on his watch with US advisors basically on the frontlines. But I guess that was all the deep state and he had no knowledge of that.
Turkey stepping up for Ukraine is very interesting...
Turkey has crimea / Black Sea interests so it seems fairly natural

Trump did send a lot of weapons that Obama refused to send
The funny part is that MAGAs here are not even talking about the post or defending but trying to create so unrelatable angle to derail the conversation.
You're not good faith arguers.
I didn’t vote for Trump, and knowledge he is petty and vindictive.
But he was elected by the American people with the promise to end the war under reasonable terms.
So the only real pertinent question is whether he is on the path towards achieving this or not.
And at this point I am just as concerned of the American media going dull court blitz trying to keep the war going just to make sure he doesn’t get the W, as I am about his approach.

Turning ukraine over to putin?
tbh I thought Trump would continue the war. but I guess this is payback to the Ukrainian elites that opposed him.
Ukraine have suspended elections due to them being at war, due to them being aggressively invaded by Russia, whose dick America currently seems to be trying its damndest to suck.
Trump knows this, as do you, just as you both know Zelensky isn't a dictator and it's an odious and sleazy attempt to slur him with such an accusation. No wonder you like Trump so much.

Isn't Turkey strategically important and haven't they allowed US missile and military bases there? Morals aside, you mentioned realpolitik and in such terms, that at least has some form of logic to it.
Where's the logic here appeasing a bully boy leader of an unfree country? What's Russia offering? Even in realpolitik terms this doesn't make sense.
I actually agree that European NATO members can't take America for granted and always rely on them by rote. I agree they need to get their act together in terms of defence. But Europe is a far better ally than Russia. If Trump is playing hardball to give the EU a wake up call, then he's going about it the wrong way. An empowered Russia will be even more hardass in negotiations, due to such irresponsible remarks and Trump's false accusation that Ukraine started this war is utterly deplorable and I've a feeling on this last point, you would actually agree.

So far, Trump's admin isn't sounding too reasonable here.
**** Trump and **** Russia
and **** anyone who supports either of them

I dont think Zelensky is a dictator. but...

And? If there was peace tomorrow do you think he wouldn't hold elections?
anyway, corpus, take a breath next time. I was agreeing with your scumbag accusation at Trump. the truthsocial post was illustrative of the thing you just accused him.
