President Elon Musk
He probably deserves his own thread at this point, discuss accordingly
Let's also ignore that Musk's comments about not batting a thousand and having made mistakes that he's open to corrections about were in relation to the $50,000,000 worth of condoms sent to Mozambique. People aren't questioning whether it should be America's job to pay for African condoms (it isn't)
This is speculative, but I bet curbing the spread of HIV in Africa is +$EV for the USA in the long run.
Seems like if you guys weren't so fundamentally dishonest you might do a better job articulating why you want more Africans to die of AIDS.
This is such a juvenile way of phrasing this.
I know you know this and it was fully intentional, but you need to learn that this is not how you get people on your side.

this guy thinks if we send another billion dollars, less people will die of aids. then if we send another 100 billion, even less people will die of aids. then we send 5 trillion and less people die of aids, malaria and less people die of hunger. then 20 trillion. but wait, he doesn't want to send 20 trillion so he wants more Africans to die of aids and hunger.
The PEPFAR (President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) programs has been a successful, and likely saved 20+ million people. It is perhaps the best thing Bush Jr. ever did in his presidency.
Saying that, I know that this is completely politically irrelevant, because the only that matters is social media, hot takes and influencers. Reality does not matter.
Still, it is nice to know that the current crop of people hellbent on burning the world down in their pursuit of likes and clout are idiots.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a more efficient way to relieve human suffering than shipping condoms to Africa. So naturally the MAGA brain trust is big mad about it.

Probably a dumb take from my part from the pov of the far right around here but not reducing aids would actually means it would actually stop decreasing and start expanding again , which someday could bite us in the a$$ in a not too far future, no ?

non-exaustive list of books written by people who worked in the Trump administration while attempting to sabotage some or all of its goal
That article said 11 books, but it only showed me 6.
All 6 were written by people appointed Trump, not career civil servants, which is what we were discussing. Do you not know the difference?
Obviously lots of his appointees tried to stop his crazier ideas, everyone knows that. IMO that was good, but it was the fault of Trump himself for appointing them.
If you find anything written by an actual civil servant, whom people claim make up the "Deep State", let me know!

Valid points and criticism that he won’t respond to with anything of substance. +1. Would read again.

Infectious disease don't overly care much about borders no.
The weapon against epidemics and pandemics is boring and thus gets little recognition on social media. It is about informing the population, making them trust health authorities and then relying on people seeking out what you offer voluntarily. This takes time, effort and presence.
Unfortunately a lot of people love hot takes and conspiracies, also before social media. It took about 2 decades of working with the public to start changing people's perception in AIDS in developed countries, before that it was a lot of "god's punishment" and seeing people with AIDS as subhuman. The same was true on the African continent and the AIDS effort, with the added difficulty of it being harder to mass communicate in many least developed regions.
Seeing as we now live in a world where people cheer for the US governments not participating in international health forums, people support the US government no longer reporting and auditing vectors and outbreaks of infectious disease, an anti-vaxxer is leading the US health department, the US president sent hundreds of thousands needlessly to an early grave in the last pandemic, international cooperation is disintegrating, and medical authorities are far less trusted... epidemic and pandemics threats are nothing to scoff at.
Of course, none of this is the US' sole responsibility. But as it is in international cooperation, the US have tended to set the tone before other countries follow. We can probably agree now that this was a bad idea, but few people saw it coming that the US would become an unstable nation. So, it is where we currently are. There is no current replacement, a new order will probably take decades to form, and it might not come about at all.

btw trump didn't appont Comey.

Ah, so those civil servants were doing what the political appointees told them to do. That's what they're supposed to do - if they didn't do what their bosses told them to do, they would be fired.
Comey served at the pleasure of the president. He helped Trump get elected. Then Trump fired him soon after taking office. He could have fired Comey on his first day in office if he had wanted to.

If it's so cheap and efficient why aren't private donors who want to save african lives paying for it? why not africans themselves if it's so cheap to save a life, even if poor, that's what they should do.
What did american taxpayers gain by saving millions of african lives? are those countries aligned with american interests against american enemies as you would expect after you save so many of them?
If the answer is NO, do you realize you are getting scammed?

The goal is to bring one of the least developed countries into the world into the modern age with preferential priority for its natural resources

Its an investment. Surely you've heard of those before?
A good investment, I cannot say, but this feigned ignorance for why the worlds global super power has global reach is frankly dumb

It's a good investment only if that country then is your lapdog.
And btw it wasn't only in mozambique.
This is the situation in Africa

All those countries are endorsing the worst enemy of the USA , and should be punished and treated as inimical countries.
And that map proves the help was an horrifically bad investment: there are more people in those countries, and healthier, and *they are enemies of americans*
As for preferential priority for natural resources (which is useless for the USA which doesn't need to import any from far away), show your work, which african countries refuse to sell resources China needs while selling to the USA?

China is the worst enemies of the us and then you complain about tariffs on electric Chinese car ?
