The Bar as in what the lawyers study for?

Oh, actually I like that as 4th choice.

Nice. n-1.

Circle
Bar
Bell
Shot

It’s possible circle is just neutral, so we should bold that last.

Bar is a lock
Bell seems fine

I’m between bridge and shot.

If Circle is neutral why would he clue us to guess it? If circle was neutral wouldn't he just avoid n-1 instead?

Because the other team needs six more and circle doesn’t hurt us if it’s neutral. I’m not suggesting we don’t bold circle. I’m suggesting we bold it last. You don’t always have to avoid neutrals. It’s a safe way to end a turn.

It’s possible (but unlikely) Nich could have missed one of straw/tube/flute/battery fitting cylindrical. If he didn’t, and circle is ours, then it would’ve been a 5-clue. Or circle is neutral and he figured it was something we’d guess ahead of flute/battery and just assumed we’d pick those up later.

I’m more interested in discussing which words we bold for the steel clue.

Are you shot>bridge? I’m probably bridge>shot.

This isn't unlimited guessing, though. We don't need a "safe way to end a turn." If he didn't want us actively to guess circle, then he wouldn't clue it. Circle is the most sure word we have.

As for the steel words, my first read was bar/bell/shot because bridges can be made of things other than steel. A lot of bridges are made of wood. But if you're strongly on bridge, I think we go:

circle
bar
bell
bridge

I have no idea what this not being unlimited guess has to do with anything. He didn’t clue circle. I’m not sure why you’re not understanding what I’m saying.

Let’s pretend for a moment that circle is neutral. Are you suggesting that the optimal strategy would be for Nich to do a 2-clue to keep us from bolding circle? Or try to force a 4-clue? If so, why? What would be the harm in bolding circle if it’s neutral? Why would it need to be avoided?

I’m not even saying that circle definitely isn’t ours. I’m saying there’s a chance - given the way the game is playing out - that it might be neutral. I’m not getting why that’s such a controversial idea.

Because every single time Nich makes a a metaclue and people ignore it, he grumbles.

I don’t think of n-1 as a metaclue as much as standard endgame procedure (for most). Yes, Nich is telling us we can bold circle. The grumbling would come from things like changing the list order, not running the list when given an unlimited clue, etc. We’re going to bold it this turn.

Okay, then how about this: what is the harm of bolding circle last? Why does circle need to be bolded first just because it’s a lock? If it’s a lock now, it’ll be a lock next turn (or, if our three for steel are correct, bolding circle ends the game). Would it not benefit us more to figure out the three steel words first? There’s no reason to clear circle from the board just because we can. We’re going to bold it this turn.

It would be different if we still needed a makeup for cylindrical, but the way the board has played out we don’t. If we had guessed our four and battery was neutral, I’d be perfectly fine bolding circle right out of the gate.

But this is getting us nowhere. I’m fine with circle/bar/bell/bridge in any order you want. With shot as makeup if we end up needing another turn.

Knocking sure things off the board makes it easier to clue next round if we fumble early in the list.

Marburgvirus - unlimited

Gah

Disease

Poison?

Then is it a disease that affects a certain body part or is it a disease discovered in Germany?

Disease
Shot

Then the three on our list, so that leaves 1

Iirc, Marburg is a hemorrhagic fever. Need to think on what the last word might be

Or maybe 4 words from our list - head, bar, church, bell?
