That’s the clueing pattern, pretty sure. I would’ve preferred a clue that was more clearly for beach and beach alone. Instead, this is a clue that includes beach and potentially multiple words on the board.

Waikiki - 1 = beach + trunk
Waikiki - unlimited = beach + hollywood
Waikiki - 2 = beach + some other word not on the list

Some notes:

1. If I clue part of a movie title, 95%+ of the time you can treat it like I’m cluing entire title; just we are limited to one word clues; of course the entirety of that <5% would be when one of the words in the title is on the list like Bill. But super rare and I still consider chick a 1 step connection bc I clued a movie with a female main lead.

2. If Hollywood is theirs I don’t clue a movie title to open the game so y’all don’t have to be scared of it

3. As spymaster, I don’t like when team changes order of list; before each clue I write down the prior turn list and then that’s the game state and I plan accordingly

I agonized over the clue bc of what IBD said; I thought Waikiki was the most “hits only beach” of what I could think of; Daytona could also hit concert bc of its race stadium; Pensacola I thought of but then overthought maybe you’d think I did east coast to hit Washington or something

But in a 2 word left I only clue 3 ways:
1: n-1 top of list + best match
2: cluing 2 words
Unlimited; 2nd on list + best match

Not gonna clue unlimited for 2 words with only 2 left, so Waikiki can only hit 1 anyway…so we shouldn’t need to agonize over cluing or guessing in this scenario; it’s always one word matching

It’s when there are 3 left and you need to know if unlimited is 1+top 2 on list or 2 + 2nd on list that it really matters

If they didn’t guess chick for us then I was gonna do Malibu (near Hollywood, beach, Malibu Stacy for chick) or Baywatch, but that’s mostly a tv show so didn’t give Hollywood vibes as much or maybe just overthinking…may have thought of something else also bc didn’t love those 2 options

Before words got moved around I figured you’d guess Hollywood and then I’d finish with bikini for beach+chick 2 clue to deny n-1 for trunk

And before they got mint for us I was playing around with ice cream type words for beach, mint, chocolate, calf

it's a pretty decent plot point from the most famous actor in the movie; sick passengers, talk to pilot about landing early, etc.

that said, maybe he overlooked it; I dunno how much of an Airplane! fan he is
