larkin seems pretty mid as an asset. 30 years old, probably a 2c, or winger. signed for 5 more years at $8,700,000. even though the cap should keep going up(?), that's probably a negative as these years cover a decline period for him.
he's probably overrated though, so drw should be able to get a haul for him, and could win a trade. i guess we'll see if yzerman brought anyone smart with him from tampa...

Maybe. The buddy I'd be going with (he's at the WC every year) isn't enthused because the sightlines are gonna suck. I kinda agree, we had a stadium game in Hanover where I now live a few years ago (third division, sold ~35k in a 50k stadium) and you couldn't see **** from pretty high up in the lower bowl. Think the stands are steeper at Schalke but it's just bigger as well. If they try to fill the place with reasonably cheap tickets I'll probably go.
We want to take in a day if random games at Düsseldorf anyway, so might be a chance to combine the two
I don't think Larkin's contract will be viewed as a negative, feels like teams only start to pay attention when the cap hit hits eight figures these days. Ehlers got 6x8.5 last year and while analytically inclined people might say Ehlers is the better player, I don't think that's the view around the league, though its fair to wonder about the usage.
It really all depends on how Larkin handles his NTC. If he gives Detroit a few options, he should have a ton of value. There's literally no one in FA so if you want to add a legitimate scoring center, you'll have to hope for other trade requests, cap casualties, teams entering rebuilds or panic-blowing up their teams (Dallas?) or for whatever reason Robert Thomas. Larkin should be one of very few options.
If he says he only wants to go to Florida or Vegas, they'll get the usual crap.
Larkin cap is actually attractive. Cap going up and he's solid value. I'd happily have him on Habs at that price. Of course depends what he costs.

yeah larkin at that cap hit is ~fine, but the downside of his 30-35 years plus the likely cost of one of those good young roster player + good prospect + 1st round pick trades isn't something i'd be too interested in
scrolled reddit to get the vibe of it, and on the main nhl one there was a lot of zomg larkin sweepstakes will decide the league's future type stuff and ppl talking about minny and carolina going for him, which makes sense (though i highly doubt the wild have the ammo after the hughes trade). and the usual suspects will be in for him; vegas, dallas, florida, tampa, etc. habs i'd imagine, probably every good team who needs a center.
but then i looked at the drw sub and a lot of the top rated comments were like:

I’m good with it. How many years has this club continue to build around a 70 point forward that has shown he may not be the best leader. I’d rather rip the bandaid than continue on whatever the hell this has been.

I read some forums to get a feel for the mood in Detroit after their season ended and a small but vocal group insisted that the Wings 'biggest problem was Larkin's leadership. Those people must be over the moon.
The main reason it's not too bad for Detroit is obviously Larkin's age. They need a serious return to ensure Seider and Raymond's primes don't also go to waste though. Who knows if Larkin allows it, sounds like **** mightve gotten personal between him and Yzerman too. If not, maybe can put getting squeezed on the excuse pile along with the lottery losses and carry on
