Lettuce NBA!
and lettuce lol @ James Harden
The Mavericks' new majority owner is Miriam Adelson
oh, it all makes sense now. lol
It was Adelson's son-in-law, who as team governor officially signed off on the deal because he reportedly appreciated the "financial flexibility."
lmao
yeah nothing beats the financial flexibility of being a completely dogshit team
"Hey guys, we can lose hundreds of millions of revenue in high profile games, merch sales, and international interest, BUT we'll avoid paying a very reasonable contract for a generational superstar!"
Masterful gambit sir

Mfers like this get hard at the thought of Ishbia being forced to cut them checks. We've seen it so many times in MLB now, and it was obvious from the jump on this story that it was all about not paying the largest supermax in NBA history. The rest is really just details. In before they demand a new $5B sportstainment supercomplex from Dallas taxpayers then move the team to Vegas.
Spurs have nonzero equity at Flagg due to owning ATL's 2025 unprotected pick.
I got Spurs at 600-1 to title when I heard the Fox news earlier this week.
Now they're 150-1.
I was just wondering how much Wemby + Fox = "two superstars toward the title" mold. I love Fox, luv Wemby ... do they need another near superstar to be close to realistic for a run, or is middle line players and role players from there enough?
Don’t think Fox is good enough to be the #2 on a title team for most cases, but Wemby looks like he’s gonna be a Jokic/Giannis level guy within a couple years and those teams won with just OK second best players.
The price is just too good not to do this for them. If one of Vassell/Sochan/Castle pops then they are in an amazing position. If not, they still have enough capital to get a solid swing or bruiser big, or even both. Like if you stick say Bane/Hartenstein on here with a two year older W
Good analysis, imo.

It's more like these leagues have too much money involved, allowing private equity means people are only investing to get money with absolutely no interest in the sport, and I guarantee Adelson gives no ****s about the NBA or basketball in general. Ironically, the exact opposite of Cuban, which is why he was a very good owner.
Sports is in a bad place right now. The money doesn't say it, but the product does. But until people stop spending money or paying attention, it won't change. The day that billionaires can't just buy a team and make money just because the team exists, and they actually lose money is maybe when this can flip. Unfortunately, most people are priced out.
So you really need more Steve Ballmers who are so rich, that they aren't as worried about getting a return on a 5+ billion dollar investment. As for Ishbia, seems like a massive tool, but he is at least trying to make his team competitive.

Wemby becomes MVP caliber night in / night out and fill out the rest of the roster smartly with Stephen Castle further developing = championship team.
imho.
But they have enough draft pick gun powder to make another deal for a star for a “big (enough) 3”.
Lakers should trade for Ayton imo.
Lebron could definitely be the mentor / big brother type to get him to focus. Plus Luka and LeBron love to pass the rock so the big man should be getting fed a plenty.
He had 25 pts 20 reb and 2 asst with 1 stl and 1 block in an OT win vs Suns tonight.
Get it done Pelinka!!!

I've thought of this too because both teams could talk themselves into it.
Lakers could package Rui/Gabe+other trash.
And why not if you're Portland might as well join the club in making LA the best team. The league will reward you helping LA. Though realistically Portland should ask for an unprotected 1st or else refuse.
Lakers can only offer Luka 5/250? I don't really understand why he can't get more than Brown/Tatum, you can only have 1 guy designated super max I thought?

He can't get the supermax since he's off the Mavs. The whole point of the supermax was to have teams retain their superstars (especially smaller markets) rather than have them run off in free agency.
Ironic how teams can now avoid the intention of this via trading.

yeah I know that but just figured it would still be 5/300 by now
how did jaylen and tatum both get that? I thought only 1 guy per team can get the supermax
could see him taking a shorter deal because then he can get a huge max at 10 yrs of service right? obviously he is gonna be a max player in 3 years even with the drinking issue
Yes, the owners, who are worth north of $30B USD, took $100M+ out of his pocket. That's the story here.
Teams can have as many Supermaxes as they can afford (realistically 2 at most) but can only have 2 Designated Rookie Max extentions, and only 1 may be for a rookie-contract that you traded for (See: Pacers and Haliburton)
Luka can play each game blackout drunk and I’d still give him the max.
He’d probably perform even better, like when Peter Griffin was drunk playing the piano.

MCLOVIN, HE COULD BE SMOKING CIGARETTES BRINGING THE BALL UP THE ****IN' COURT!!!! I'd still give him the max.
The best part about this whole thing is how none of the Mavs' FO's reasons stand up to even the slightest scrutiny.
"We thought he was unhealthy"
-That unhealthy dude just drug you to the Finals
"He doesn't play defense"
-See above, also, sign some defenders
"We thought his bad habits would make him like Embiid going forward"
-Cool, so shop him and get 87 FRP for him
And on and on and on. It's just a comically bad decision with zero justification. To hear now that Dallas is apparently shocked by the pushback is amazing.
Imagine the backlash if the Lakers trade for a good center and win the title this year…
OoooEeeeee
Nico is a genius when Luka goes to Euro NBA for like 100 MM euros a year
seems like Suns/Butler really trying to force that deal to happen but if it doesnt maybe Suns say screw it and deal KD
Why do people keep wanting to go to the Suns? Like, they kinda suck.
