NCAA Basketball Thread 2024-2025

Quick OP here just to get us up and running

Things to watch for this year:

1. Can UConn 3-peat? Hurley won back to back championships with Clingan, Tristen Newton, and company. Can he make it a third with only one returning starter?

2. Who will be this years national player of the year? Zach Edey was the best player I've seen play college basketball in my lifetime. People throw the term generational talent around alot and Edey was truly a generational talent winning back to back national player of the year awards. But, now he's gone. So who can win the award?

- the 5th year guards in Mark Sears(Alabama) and RJ Davis(UNC) are a good spot to start. Both elite shooters and engines of an offense, they should lead two really good teams.

- the 5th year centers in Hunter Dickinson(Kansas) and Ryan Kallbrenner(Creighton) are also viable options. They'll be the anchors to what should be two really good teams.

- The phenoms: Cooper Flagg(Duke), Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper(Rutgers), VJ Edgecombe(Baylor), and Tre Johnson(Texas) lead a loaded freshman class.

3. Who are the contenders?

Kelvin is a really good coach. He deserves a ship.

Watching replays of the final foul call on Flagg; just completely wild. The defender never even gets his arm up for the rebound because he is holding Flagg's leg. And Flagg pretty much tips the rebound out uncontested. It looked like a really bad call in real time, and replay just makes it worse.

Speaking of Proctor not playing well at the end of the game, under-rated moment when he lost control going for an open lay up with about 1:30 left that would have put them up 9.

Do you guys think Cooper returns to Duke for "unfinished business of not winning the title"?

I think it depends who wins the NBA Lottery... does he really want to spend 8 years in Utah? Or play for the inept Wizards?

He's going to look great in that Wizards uniform shagging balls to feed Cesspoole's logo heaves.

I felt like Hou had no chance for a legit full 38 minutes. Like, zero percent. I believed the equity was 0.

I've stayed off sports betting for a while. But I was kicking myself for the majority the game for not going all in on Duke -4.5...

After that staying off sports betting for a while longer

Not really sure where else to post this so I'll give it a shot here. I stand to win 11k in a march madness bracket if Houston wins. If Florida wins I bet 0. I'd like to walk into the nearest fanduel sportsbook in Iowa and put 5k on Florida at -120, or whatever the line ends up being. Any other considerations I should be thinking about? Think they'll let me bet that much?

All depends on your financial situation and how much gambol you have. You wanna guarantee a few k win, wouldn't blame you. Want to go all out, wouldn't blame you.

Got Cooper Flagg returning for "unfinished business" as about the same as I thought Karl Towns, Zion, or John Wall were returning.

Pre-NIL, he'd be a lock to leave, but Duke can easily pay him like $10MM next year if they want, so it is possible he stays. Duke has $12 billion in their endowment fund.

Much appreciated. You think it's likely that a fanduel sportsbook will allow a new player to just plop down 4k?

I don't think it's an issue. A game this big, they have enough handle on both sides that it won't be a needle mover for them.

If you were making your first bet of that size on a Big West regular season game, it's a different story.

Schools don't use endowment money to pay athletes NIL money. That isn't where NIL money comes from.

$10 million in NIL seems a touch high, but high single figures seems very plausible.

But it doesn't matter. He's gone. Trying to game the lottery year to year in the hopes that you end up somewhere that isn't a cesspool is a fool's errand. Flagg's people surely know that. Also, it's hard to predict which teams will be a cesspool ten year's from now. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere near Golden State's situation in 2008. Curry was obviously disappointed when the Warriors drafted him in 2009. Now Golden State is the most valuable franchise in the NBA.

Not to mention, it’s not about the rookie contract money. It’s about getting to the second, third, etc contracts as quickly as possible.

Just look at Melo. The Hornets ****ing blow, he’s been good not great, he can’t stay healthy, and he’s on a supermax.

Tyrese Proctor's FT% by season. Like, wut?

Cooper is gonna love Utah. He's white.

Not just him. I was stunned how how badly the technique of a lot of these players' FTs looked.

Then the FL guy shooting 81% bricks three of four down the stretch. But he looked like a shooter. So maybe having a decent technique isn't that meaningful.

He soaks too

Cooper can hang with Filipowski and Flip’s creeper fiancee.

If Proctor can make the front end that stupid foul call isn't even a thing. Houston don't quit, will be rooting hard for them on Monday.

Haven't been here in a while, this forum format turned to AIDS.

Also correct.

For a variety of reasons, consensus #1 picks almost always enter the draft. Tim Duncan is the last exception to this rule that i can recall.

I was surprised UF was a favorite over Auburn. And I’m surprised theyre favored over Houston
