As I understand the rule they don't even have to kick it OOB. They could just bump it off the tee. Same penalty and immediately blown dead.
is this true?? I was about to say that NFL kickers never practice kicking the ball OOB and directional kicking is quite difficult to begin with...so if you're confident your kicker can do it, kicking it through the EZ should be preferred.

That was from a quick Google search. I didn't dig into the actual rule book. But the new kickoff rules require the ball to land in the landing zone, so I would think that is correct.
