omg Memo is warming up.

Yawn. Mexico hasn't done a ton to kill this game off. Ecuador just has a whole lot of nothing. Wet fart of an exit.

You earned it, Hincapie.

Must be nuts at the Azteca right now

Vibes in the whole city will be nuts, el zocalo (main square) looks like a party right now in the post game show.

One of my best football memories was watching the Mexico win over Germany (2018, so a bit before they became a minnow) there then moving the celebration to their main street, Paseo de la Reforma. There were hundreds of thousands there.

tomorrow:

england vs dr congo (in atlanta)
belgium vs senegal (in seattle)
usa vs bosnia & herzegovina (in santa clara)

by TheGramuel m

Looks even longer!

I woke up and checked - they opened at 20/1 (on the exchanges), so my guess was good. Stingy normal books usually have terrible prices.

They might well be longer by kick off time tbh

England and USA both strong favourites who should go through. The other game is the interesting one. I hope Senegal win, that Belgium team pissed me off in the groups.

It's fully over anyway imo. I've never seen such a dominant team at a World Cup as this France. They are clearly the best.

by TheGramuel m

England are going to get dildoed by this Mexico team if we both make it through.

It's in Azteca too. Mexico rolls.

Thats cool.
I live only a short drive from the german border so might swing by before the Netherlands - Morocco game πŸ˜ƒ

The dutch hate towards germany has dropped significantly over the years and i quite like them tbh but the banter certainly stayed

Yeah, I was 12 in 1990 when Frank "The Llama" Rijkaard spit on "Uns" Rudi VΓΆller. Twice. Two years prior we had lost to you in the final of Euro '88 at home. At least in my life that was peak Holland Hate. It's gone down from that point forward ever since and I actually quite like them now and usually root for them.

by Slugant m

We had Cruijff, van Basten, Bergkamp & Sneijder. No we have haramball with Weghorst

Yeah, well... a similar pΓΆst could be made about us. Sad really... :-(

---

Anyway,

Let's go UEFA!

by Slugant m

We had Cruijff, van Basten, Bergkamp & Sneijder.

Neeskens not getting a mention is a travesty.

Too many to mention honestly.

The sad thing is that we currently also have some potential greats but they didn't even get the chance to go out with a bang or properly measure themselves against Morocco (who I deem quite good but nothing near enough to merit how Koeman botched the tactics)

Not mentioning Gullit too. But we had so many great players.... had :(

I remember watching that as well. It was disgusting, what a mink.

I was friends with a load of Dutch guys I. 89 and 90. One of them was from Aachen and told stories about throwing stones across the border into Germany after the 88 semi final

They were an incredible team. So exciting and attacking. I still think that van Basten volley against Russia is about the best goal I’ve ever seen

It perfectly shows the amounts of hatred felt at the time
You'd expect something like that from a Suarez but Rijkaard pretty much was/is always a class act besides that unreal moment
Hell, even Koeman whiped his ass with the German shirt publicly
You were instructed to hate Germany in those days as a Dutch person

And the van Basten volley in the final vs the Sovjets still lives rent-free in my head. What a player he was. Basically had to retire at 29 which was such a shame

Yeah, see my edit message at the bottom of the pΓΆst.

Favorite world cup ad campaigns? Mine is still Inarritu's:

Favorite world cup ad campaigns?

Nike's 1998 ad Brazil go through the airport. Loved it at the time, pretty sure it got parodied by a Scottish comedy show later that year for a "Scotland goes through the airport" version, where all the windows ended up broken and everything was overturned from the lack of accurate passing.

Favorite ad campaigns?

No.

look, enough about netherlands, england about to play, so lets talk about england world cup legends such as emile heskey, paul robinson, glen johnson, gary cahill, jesse lingard and harry maguire

This one's great, takes me back. It's my brother's favorite.

You’re doing Carlton Palmer and Steve Bull a great disservice.

When anyone brings up the world cup, I obviously cannot deny I support ABE, first and foremost. My love for UEFA comes second.

Doctor Congo is about to bring the pain.

Rob Green does color for one of the Fox broadcast teams and I giggle every time I see him.
