Joseph Heller still dead, still at 76 (and other celebrity deaths): RIP Hank Aaron and Willie Mays
When an interviewer told Mr. Heller that he had never written anything as good as ''Catch-22,'' the author shot back, ''Who has?''

Les McCann & Eddie Harris live Montreux '69
not sure what else the album should be compared to
Swiss Movement
Eddie Harris – tenor saxophone
Les McCann – piano, vocals on "Compared to What"
Benny Bailey – trumpet
Leroy Vinnegar – bass
Donald Dean – drums
string post because nothing compares to watching another moving song live
Nina Simone Mississippi Goddam , Les McCann Compared to What, and Gil Scott-Heron The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
what other songs might you suggest have been as impactful?

I had my students do their research paper on "Strange Fruit" this semester. After listening to it, one guy said so that's what Kanye sampled in "Blood on the Leaves."
I like my students to learn things they don't know about when they do research.

can you let students know western musical history somehow started before yeezy stole samples from Nina Simone

I pose this question to them (and to myself as well): can protest songs influence behavior?
I have them research "Strange Fruit" because they don't think anything happened before they were born or is over a hundred years old.

Sure, reference "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield and "Ohio" by CSN (among many others of that era).
can protest books influence behavior?
seems the answer to both might the same
another question: is influence (change) in the context of your question characterized as incremental, widespread, resistance, defiance, or other?

Probably all of those, but my guess is that protest songs sing to the choir. Perhaps I'm wrong.

if the concept was not effective would propaganda still exist?
David Soul is dead.
RIP David Soul. When we were little, my brother was Starsky and I was Hutch, and a cardboard box was that really cool car they had. Soul was also great in Salems Lot.
And the Starsky & Hutch theme is amazing!
Beethoven was a propagandist. And a damn good one.
So was Vivaldi!!!!
