The "LOLCANADA" thread...again
So what's new?
I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet...i'd be shocked if they lost the election now.
Just shows just how incompetent Conservatives are.

So I saw this that BC imports
With high levels of drought this year, B.C. Hydro has imported 10,000 gigawatt hours — about a fifth of the province's energy needs — as of December 2023, for a cost of about $450 million.
And were does that power come from?
https://electricityforum.com/news/bc-ele...
So why is BC power not charging a carbon tax on that power?
The same reason that when Alberta drills and ships oil it only pays the carbon tax on the emissions created in Alberta - i.e. the drilling or the shipping - and doesn't pay a dime for the carbon produced by burning that oil outside of Alberta.

I get your logic but everyone pays a carbon tax on Natural Gas to heat their homes no matter were it comes from .
Hey I’m in BC so I support the policy and I just found out water is free

It isn't "my" logic, it is the basic structure of the carbon tax. If you produce a tonne of CO2 here in Canada, then you get charged. If someone else produces a tonne of CO2 somewhere else in the world, then they aren't. It wouldn't even be remotely feasible or realistic to try and determine that even if it was possible. There are indeed some movement in Europe behind ideas of carbon tariffs that charge extra costs for imports of products that would likely have taken carbon to produce elsewhere, that might be great, but it isn't remotely in the USMCA agreement and besides this entire discussion presumes one cares about increasing the cost of carbon to mitigate climate change. You obviously don't.

I actually posted a carbon tax strategy that would work
No you didn’t. Your “strategy” meant that there was zero incentive to change. If you produce bucketloads of carbon, you got rebated every dollar you spent in your scheme providing zero reason to produce less carbon. You can have your mega mansion and gas guzzlers and it costs absolutely nothing more under your laughable scheme.
Wtf is Pierre on about https://x.com/_llebrun/status/1742590343...

If as you say many folks consider climate change is a top issue than they will not apply to get it back on their taxes . Now your not rebating folks money that pay little carbon tax. Also many will be to lazy to save receipts and claim it on their taxes
If you truly believe its such an important issue with folks you should be able to collect more

try looking up the word metaphor 😀

Lol, your plan to save the planet is hoping rich people donate their potential tax savings to the government?
Good luck.
Im not sure how any government solves the health care crisis . Alberta is trying something new

People are literally dying in waiting rooms, Some folks wait days to get a fracture set
Another ethics investigation into Trudeau's vacation .
This may be a nothing burger and a political ploy but his story keeps changing first I paid my own vacation than a friend paid for my $90,000 stay . I had it cleared ....
I am curious who this friend might be ? SNC , CBC , Lockheed Martin
Yeah I know its a guy named Peter Green of course with ties to the Trudeau Foundation .

I think this may be a waste of time everyone knows JT is a privileged one
Keep pounding the affordability issue thats your winning move
Waiting days? More like weeks
I worked in Ortho for a few years and used to get Canadians all the time
Socialized healthcare is disgusting
So don’t come live here .
Majority of Canadians are fine to have the opportunity to be taken care of on health issue.

That is the problem many Canadians can’t find a family doctor . I moved to the Kootenay region and wait is years .
God forbid you need to go to an emergency room the wait is 20 hours to just be seen . Folks are dying in waiting rooms
I’m sure Tommy Douglas never envisioned this
Alberta, one of Canada's top 3 wind producing provinces is currently producing enough energy to power 10 (TEN!) Homes. But yeah in 25 year years everything will be wind/solar! Thank God for the beautiful gift of natural gas.

If that actually makes sense to you, it's no wonder you're so down on alternative forms of electricity. Perhaps you could show your work on that stat. Although I'd suggest double-checking your work before posting, to save yourself some embarrassment.

It's pretty straight forward. Not sure how it doesn't make sense. Solar and wind and down the basically nothing this back week in Alberta.
https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/grid-alert-i...
"Another key challenge is we're getting very little renewable power onto the grid, which is not helping us."
"Out of a total installed capacity of approximately 6,000 megawatts, we're only getting about 30 megawatts out of renewables. So that doesn't help us on days like today."
Ah I see, I almost asked whether you were speaking to one specific point in time, but that seemed rather silly since it's extremely obvious that solar and wind aren't going to produce the same 24/7/365, so I didn't bother. My apologies.
Yes, Canada will be challenged to go 100% renewables in 100% of homes for quite some time. Not sure if we'll be there in 25 years, but from the technical side I expect that at worst we could be very close.
An understandable frustration if that was actually true .
But since no one suggesting this will happen in that time frame with only those kind of energy sources , only you and couple uninformed
(slurping misinformed media’s , QAnon and politicians does that …😉
gets angry for no reason !

You know what does produce the same 24/7/365. Cheap, plentiful, reliable fossil fuels.

Challenged or impossible? How many billions will spent to get very close?
Lol shifty. We can and should largely wean off fossil fuels, but that isn’t the same as just wind and solar. Duh.

Lets be honest we will never get there. Canada with a radical PM and Environment minister have not hit one goal yet. Governments never last as long as their plans all we can do is see how much they have had an effect in the 8 years the Liberals have been in power. They have had little to no effect and the supreme court has ruled against them twice / All they have done is increased the cost of living
The USA has had a record year for Oil Production . Coal has never been in such a high demand and the USA and Canada are key suppliers
Even are great PM has caved to political pressure and stopped collecting the carbon tax on the Maritimes to buy votes. So how can folks call Uke Pierre Pollivier anything when he is going to do that for all CDN's . If anything Trudeau is the hypocrite phasing out the carbon tax on the dirtiest fuel in Canada
If you look out west were in a massive deep freeze . Heat Pumps do not work in those conditions and farmers need natural gas to heat their barns and houses as do all of us here in the prairies . There is no viable other source that burns actually very clean. Even the EU has stated Natural Gas is a clean alternative
