Winter of Our Disco Tent: Lounge LC Thread

The season is upon us like it is every year. Count your blessings, celebrate, and be nice.

That goes for you, too, Zeno.

lol you're not wrong, but I still enjoy it. I just like watching young people react to the music and movies that wowed me when I was their age.

I also only follow music reactors who actually know something about music - are musicians themselves, etc. Not just randoms saying, "wow, David Bowie is kinda cool."

what ruined it was this one channel took millenials and gave them things like rotary phones and handheld lcd games without any introduction and asked them to guess what it was and also try to use it

there is some good "reaction videos" out there and it's always children who aren't playing a role

My granddaughter figured out a rotary phone--almost.

The thing about these videos is that they are so "hammy'. They'd be an embarrassment to 1950s TV. There must be some basic human need to find the lowest common denominator of humor.

Saw that 88% of voters who supported Trump in Iowa believe he won the election. What is wrong with people?

What is wrong with people?

I think what people suffer from most of all is a lack of viable alternatives.

And decades of purposeful erosion of teaching critical thinking in schools leaves people without that ability.

Having lived there for many years, I can definitively say that lots of Iowans are uneducated, non-thinking rubes.

I'm not sure Trump voters around the country think much differently. I am no longer surprised that people will vote against their own best interests.

we're dealing with iowas top 3% most rabidly politically active people, it's by no means a sample of a general population

this is like going to a bowling lane to poll people on whether they like bowling

Oh, I know. But voters for DiSantis and Haley weren't close to Trump voters, even though they were around 50/50.

Here's my day today. Went to lunch with five women to celebrate my colleague's retirement. Came home for a couple hours, then picked up another colleague who treated me to dinner tonight for taking care of her dog and daughters's cats.

Both places are a little over a half hour away, so lunch took up three and a half hours, and dinner took four and a half hours.

This is why I don't retire. I'd be sitting home alone most of the time and would miss my friends from work.

Oh, and pet sitting woman brought me Canadian Kit-Kats. They really are better than American Kit-Kats.

Spent an hour today looking for my car key. Checked everywhere. Kept looking, and I don't have a big apartment. Checked the car.

Finally, they turned up. I made the bed this morning and somehow covered the key.

I have an invisible, evil twin brother who's always hiding my ****. He's called Jack.

I once searched for my glasses for an hour until I realized I was wearing them

story of my life, i do not look forward to how much worse it's going to get as i age

I have about 20 pairs of reading glasses scattered around the house, and I still don't ever seem to have one handy when I need it. Which is always.

I wish I had a dishwasher since I fear I'm going to be one of those old men who will have food stuck to plates after I wash them.

every time i visit my parents i need to discreetly rewash most of their dishes - if i do it openly they think i'm gaslighting them

My friend and I at dinner the other night had a discussion why slang for penis was used with other words for insults whereas slang for vagina was not used nearly as often.

For example, you might call someone a dickhead but never call someone a pussyhead.

Thoughts or suggestions for research?

Because pussies don't have heads? You can call someone a pussy, tho

You might call someone a pussyclot but not a dickclot.

I was thinking of others besides dickhead. Anyway, it wasn't your usual dinner conversation.

The British, though, employ slang for vagina more than Americans.

I'm enjoying these Lions fans and looking forward to the Bills winning.

I've barely watched football all year, and I only watched the Lions last weekend with any interest.
