Ben Johnson staying in Detroit is a massive win for the Lions imo. Not only he complements Campbell but its also a morale booster after a devastating loss.
According to schefter his asking price was ridiculous and scared of Washington. Which, I mean, it definitely is

Washington job doesn’t seem that bad all things considered. Granted, depends on how much you buy into Maye but if you think he’s a franchise guy and you have the offensive savvy Johnson does that’s not too long before you’re good again

I think it’s a very attractive spot. New ownership, potential franchise QB available, tons of cap space.
I don’t think Maye is a lock for #2. Daniels is in play. Both have a lot of upside.

The problem with Howell is he takes so many negative plays. He led the league in sacks taken, and I'm pretty sure he also led the league in turnover worthy plays.
Washington would probably roll with him again if they were outside of QB range in the draft, but at #2, I think they have to take who they prefer between Maye and Daniels.

It's only attractive if ownership is patient enough. This roster absolutely sucks. You need to be guaranteed 3 years. It is smart to ask for a lot of money as a HC of a terrible team since it makes it harder to fire you. Ben Johnson will have plenty of opportunity next year to get a better HC job.
That’s definitely what he’s betting on.
Plus, he has the security of insulated value. He knows he will be coaching the same guys in Det next season.
It felt like earlier in the season he had a chance to keep the job and iirc, Jonathan Allen came out and gave him some really big praise but yeah, reckon they won’t pass this chance up.
He does look like a Ryan Fitzpatrick type though so I think he’ll get a few chances down the track
