What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.
Brag: Shot 80 today on my home course (par 72) - I'm a 12 handicap so this is a very good number for me.
Beat: Had a [censored] quadruple bogey on the easiest hole on the course. Stupid sand features.
Variance: Lost $3 thanks to the team game.
Been a while since I put a decent round together. Conditions were pretty good but cold.
Messed up the 1st and ended up with a bogey.
Got it back on the 4th with a 2 on a 160ish Par 3.
Then gave it right back on the 6th. Long Par 4 into a slight cold wind. Hit a decent drive and a decent second shot. Still was like 15 short of the green. Hit a chip foot short of where I wanted to and it spun up to leave me like 18 feet. Got a bit heavy handed with the putt and raced it past and left myself with a 5 footer down hill missed this ended up with a double.
I was playing some decent stuff. My approaches to 7/8/9 were all inside 10 feet just didn't hole a putt.
Everything Par up till the 15th Par 5. Had 160ish for my approach shot. Was slightly into again and hit a decent 6 iron. Pin high 20 feet left of the flag. Down hill putt and ran it by like 5 feet again missed the one coming back and ended up with a bogey.
17th hit my best drive of the day on a tough driving hole. Hit a really good approach to about 8 feet missed the putt.
18th ended up with a birdie approach was terrible but holed a decent putt.
+2 after all that so pretty decent overall. Thank god I had hand warmers and mittens though also my first outing wearing compression leggings some under armour ones they were very good.
One of those rounds where you feel like golf just kicked you in the ass today.
Striking it well.
Everything standard up till the 5th. Hit it right side of the green pin high and had a downhill pitch over a little mound however it was in a divot, so I knew I wasn't getting this to stop short. Hit a good chip as I thought didn't stop. Where I f'ed up though was racing the putt by from about 12 feet and leaving myself a smell 4-footer downhill which I missed.
8 and 9 long holes. If I could hit my 3 wood, I would be able to get there in 2 but I can't so I have to hit my rescue on the 2nd shot. On both holes they went well got it to the greenside bunker on the 8th and played a decent shot out of it just missed the putt for Par. The 9th I was just short of the green again but didn't hit a good chip 2 putt for a bogey.
Now the 11th was terrible. Hit a meh drive but not too bad just missing the left side of the fairway and on this little mound. Got up there had 180ish into the wind probs playing 190-200ish. Looked at the lie and it was ok, but my stance made it ball below the feet. Normally I'm fine with this as it should counter my left shot a little. However, I left the club face open and went straight right nearly OB I'm talking half a foot. Only thing was I was snookered. 2 trees in the way. I had a shot to the left side of the green. So took out my 7 iron just bumped it through the trees and then just ran through into the bunker. Now this bunker is a bit back to front. Whilst the front of it has a lip the back of the bunker has a massive lip probably about 10 feet, somehow my ball has stop 3/4's up this lip and hasn't rolled back down. Take 2 to get out and end up 2 putting for a triple.
15th tees were up so playing like 270 we had it. I hit a 7 iron off the tee and had 95 to the flag and messed the approach shot up never really should be bogey this hole.
16th meh drive down the middle but not very good distance wise. I fatted the rescue for my 2nd and you just cannot do this on this hole as there is a creek running along the fairway. Only like 150 carry but when you've fat something you're in it. Thankfully I was just short however I had a tree in my way. From about 150 I just punched a little 4 iron up there. Didn't get up and down from the next and ended up with a bogey.
17th really pee'ed me off. This hole dog legs from left to right and for a person who hits a right to left ball this is a hard hole for me. I think it’s the 2nd hardest anyway but this for me makes it tough. Well for once I've just knuckled one down the middle. Get to my ball in the fairway only to find out I have a tough downhill lie for my next. 170ish out and just blade one just short. Chip on hit a good putt and just misses for par.
Hit my best approach to 18 all day. Had about 115 to a back flag only thing is I have a massive tree in the way. Playing partner was right next to me and he managed to get 9 iron over the tree quite easy. So, I thought I can just play it normal then to be safe though I bumped it up a little in the stance and literally cleared this tree by a foot. Ended up going to 7 feet pin high left but I might the putt.
Overall, I'm getting back into the groove again and hopefully I can just brush up on somethings and get some putts to drop. Feel like a good score is around the corner. I also need to learn how to hit a 3 wood off the deck consistently it's just a club I've never got on well with and it just sits in my bag, and I just never hit it. Even thinking about just getting a shorter shaft but not to sure how that would fair for me.
15th tee's were up so playing like 270 we had it. I hit a 7 iron off the tee and had 95 to the flag and messed the approach shot up never really should be bogey this hole.

One day FSGA event. The competition isn't so difficult in the 50-59 age bracket.
38-39-77
3 birdies, 8 bogeys
I won by 7 shots (10 people in my flight). Course was wet, why it wasn't lift, clean, and place is beyond me.
sigh pulled something in my quad last night at football/soccer tried to play golf today didn't hurt as much as I thought, more of a pain walking than anything, Hitting everything 10 yards shorter and leaving everything out to the right.
I guess at least I can still play think if the injury wasn't on my lead leg then I just wouldn't be able to play.
Shot +3 playing 9 holes which wasn't actually that bad.
Meh round greens were actually pretty slippery and sneaky fast.
Really need to work on my pace with putting had 3 x 3 putts from not so difficult positions and just ran the putt so far by.
We had 14 players turn up for our Sunday fun day thing which is basically a team event.
Today we decided to do a 7 vs 7 scramble split with a 3 and 4 ball and then at the end we combined our scores.
On our team we had 2 x 9 handicaps and 1 x 14 handicap and 4 x 20+ handicaps. We got to split our side as we wanted to, we decided that me and the other 9 handicap would play together with the highest handicapper. We did want to have the 3 lowest going out together but the rest of the team weren't having it.
We started off pretty poor. Par/Birdie/Par/Bogey/Par/Par/Birdie/Birdie/Par so -2 on the front.
Back 9 was real good though. 3 Birdies to start with and we walked past our team and asked how they were doing and they said they were -5, So pretty good going. Par on the next and then 5 Birdies in a row to finish off. Giving us -8 for the back and -10 for overall.
For that back 9 every putt dropped it was crazy. I holed a long one on the 12th. Had a pretty decent one on 15. On 17 we holed a 40 footer. 18 was actually funny. Can drive the green. I hit mine pin high left of the green though have about a 40 yard pitch. I under hit mine and just went in the fringe. I slam my wedge down in anger. Other 9 handicapper hits his fat into the bunker, He then threw his club into the bunker. Then the high handicap toe shanked it. We get up to the green and have about 30 feet. Lower handicapper steps up and nails the putt. We cheer and he does a lap of honor around the green 😃
Once we combined the scores we ended up winning by 6. The higher handicaps come in at -7 I think it was so done really well.
+2 today, game of 2 halves.
went out in +5 and come back -3
Was also playing a 2v2 match as well we won 2&1.
Got my first ever stroke play tournament Saturday. Trying to avoid setting goals that I have no control over, so here are my goals:
1) Have a committed plan for every single shot
2) Eliminate any thoughts or concerns about the opinions of others
3) Post-shot routine. For good shots, reiterate mentally that I hit a good shot in a pressure situation. For shots that are disappointing, determine if the error was strategic or execution, internalize any needed adjustments, move on.
4) Don't allow the emotion, positive or negative, from previous shots to influence the next shot.
I would say also have fun and relax, Don't be to hard on yourself either golf rarely goes as expected.
For sure! And that's why I don't want to have goals like "hit X fairways or Y greens" or "shoot under Z" etc. These goals are designed to help me do that, but I definitely like making "Enjoy the day and relax!" a stated goal.
36-36-72
2 birdies, 2 bogeys
Handicap has risen to 5.7. Finally put a round together.
:(
Shot +4 today around my very easy track. Was super easy today as it was so soft out there.
Couple of highlights. On the 3rd 500 yard par 5. Hit my drive into bush had 300 in made a good par in the end. Then on the 12th also Par 5 made a good birdie. Then 13 160 yard par 3 put it to 5 feet and made the 2.
15 Par 5 I hit a really good drive best I've hit in a while. Hit rescue and just fat it so bad I have 180 left slightly into I pull 4 iron and miss hit that to. Leave my self a 40 yard pitch put it to 6 feet and hole the putt for a Par.
17 nothing special other than my drive I hit as good as 15. So given I just hit 2 good drives on the spin I'm dripping in confidence when I get to 18 which you can drive obviously I miss it right and put it in a bush and end up getting a double 😃
Have a bit of everything at the moment the good the bad and the ugly.
Level Par today.
Didn't really hit it particularly well off the tee but managed to work with it. Course was playing easy as it was so soft but will say inside like 100 yards I was very good and tidy. Had 3 bogeys and 3 birdies, 2 of which were 2's on Pars.
Playing partner who plays at a similar level to me had a -1 round which was bogey free. Crazy every time I thought I had him on a hole he'd just hole the putt. Few times I had about a 3 footer for Par and he'd have a 7-12 footer and he'll go first and hole it and it just makes my 3 footer a bit bigger.
In our comp I entered my score and I was sitting pretty at the top with 44 points with the 2's as well thought finally I might win something 😃 ... but no a guy comes in with 52 points and 3 two's 😃 tbf to him he deserves a day like that he's been down in the dumps for a while. Hopefully he hasn't peaked to early as he is my scramble partner in 2 weeks which is a comp. We marry up quite well he hits it long but isn't great at the short game and I'm usually fairly steady off the tee and short game is my strong point.
Courses around here don't open for another month. Still a nice day for a walk around the local muni.
At my local today probs just under a inch deep. People like this suck. I found part of the divot and stamped it back in.
^^^^^^ ridiculous.
Placeholder for my round this Saturday. Will probably the earliest I have ever golfed (in this area) in a season ever.
takes a certain type of person to explode on a course like that
have fun nate!
looks like sunny low '60s, hope it holds and the course has good drainage.
43-40-83. Man was it wet. We asked if it was cart path only and the girl said no, just try to stay out of the wet areas, lololololol.
47 degrees and rain most of the round. Still snow on the course. Was fun, barely.
my man scoffs at eleven over under those conditions
should be a rule when the temp is under par for a single nine you get the difference in strokes
you didn't quite get there, maybe next time
44 (par 36). No birdies, 1 double bogey.
First swings since Christmas. Beautiful 68 degree March day, lol. Every course was packed, I was happy to get a 3:00pm tee time. Other than one bunker misadventure I was pretty happy with how I played.
Played 36 on Wednesday. First 9 I shot 41 which was excellent for me (index 19.8, course handi 21). Caught some groups and second 9 was slow, which I partially rose to the challenge of and partially struggled with frustration. Made a quad on 11 which was very deflating, but came back and played the next 3 holes even, including my 3rd birdie of the day. Made a heinous triple on 16 after waiting forever and then hitting a bad tee shot and then having a guy come up behind me and so then rushed myself. Had to drop on 17 after my drive and then did some score math b/c I was going to be livid to not break 90 after a 41 front. Hit a great 3w on the green and two putted for bogey, and then hit a solid tee shot on par 5 18th, then my second shot was a hybrid over water that I had to wait for 5 minutes to hit, and I flushed it so that felt good. Botched my 3rd, but made a 6 footer for the 89 (USGA 88).
Ended up fatiguing a bit and having to rush a bit to beat daylight for the second 18 and shot a 97 (USGA 96), but got to enjoy my favorite golf conditions which are a wide open course in the enlongating shadows of twilight.
Was supposed to have my first lifetime stroke play tourney last month but rained out, now gonna play one next Thursday, and am excited for the challenge.
2 man scramble club comp today with handicaps.
I picked a guy who is like a 18 handicap but hits it pretty far. We ended up getting 5 shots.
Shakey start had a couple of 3 - 5 footers for par on the 1st 3 holes. 4th hole Hit 7iron into a 160ish par 3 get to the back of the green. Quick putt but we ended up 3 putting 😃 ... We get it back on the next with a nice Birdie to get back to level.
Then go Par Birdie Birdie. 9th Drivable Par 4. Team mate hits the green to about 15 feet for eagle. I step up hit a skanky heel strike but goes to about 5 feet 😃 We both miss the Eagle haha. Par 10 Birdie 11. Par on 12/13/14. 15th a pretty straight forward Par 5 about 500 long however, both of us seem to do bad on this hole. We both hit good drives but we take his. I just hit a rescue for the 2nd shot for more safe as he can hit driver off the deck. He gets it wrong we both hit meh approaches and end up 3 putting for a 6 😃
16th short par 3 I hit it 8 feet pass and spins back to pin high to about 5 feet we hole the birdie. 17th tough hole good par. 18th, He hits one in the bush I think whatever probs not going to win so take a risk a stick with the driver hit one down the middle. Have a awkward little pitch but put it to 3 feet and get the birdie.
Finish -5 Gross which is pretty decent ended up tied 2nd but came 3rd on count back left pretty easily 3 out there which of made us 1st :(
After the way I've been hitting it recently I'll take that. Going away tomorrow on a 2 day golf trip nowhere special just something we booked and got cheap at the end of last year. Not such great weather for it though staying in these eco pods which will be an experience and interesting. Had a look at the golf course has a 200 yard par 3 which looks up hill and a 250 yard par 3. Other than that though doesn't look to difficult.
keep the pendulum swinging to and fro
and enjoy the golf holiday tomorrow
