SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread
In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.
Sign up with /in below if you want to play.
In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).
2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.
The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).
We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"
Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.
The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.
Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.
Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words
We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)
I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

I’m thinking of two very similar C4s that literally combine to make my C9. So I’m not sure if we’re all just talking about different ****, haha.
This was Coke, Cola, and Coca-Cola btw.
How do we handle hyphens? I know we are including them in the count, but does that mean I can say “I have a C9 that’s hyphenated?”
Water seems the right direction
I think trevi is a place/famous version of somethng watery- so a water company, lake, fountain, pond are things watery I think we can plausibly not know.
Its not an ocean or sea or lake i think we'd know that
Could be a famous tap dancer?
This post got an audible laugh from me.
“The clue almost certainly has to do with water. Maybe Trevi’s a tap dancer!” 😃
Yeah, first goal is to get y’all to think of the word in the first place, which you did with that quoted post
But then we gotta get you to say the one word out of 10 that you mentioned
But our % is based on the guess only, not the conversation, so no way to really get you to know you have mentioned the word
Coca-cola is 9 because we count the hyphen as a letter…and yeah, fountain drink is a great clue also
ugh, sorry we didn't know trevi
fountain is hard to clue for with those letters. good job guys
I don't think you can say "I have a hyphenated 9." I think that's too much info.
The c9 I was thinking of was "cascading".
Yeah my c7/c9 was cascade/cascading
No we can’t say if a word is hyphenated when mentioning c9 or whatever; only when bolding
Round 14:
Cards used: 19
Guessers: zeus/d1
The Board:
EF | IH | DL | B | P | C | A
The target word:
I've pmed to filthy/ibedrummin/bolt/amazingervin
e7
a5
c7 is great but gotta go through a first
I think the A7 —> C7 combo is the winner, with a reasonable chance A7 can do it in its own.
Yeah I agree
Seems to be the best line to take unless someone thinks of something else
are we allowed to clue two words, like "soda fountain"?
cuz i have a chance to get it in one if we can use two words
f7 opposite is good and might get it in one
Tap+Coke coulda gotten them just going soda or soft drink
Tho you’d think they’d realize we didn’t clue Tab so prolly not those
The reason they are fountain is they are “fountain drinks” because they come from a “soda fountain” if not canned/bottled
I have an E10 I think is great and could 1 shot it
You do have to be careful cluing American terms to Euros. They are not known as soda fountains in Australia, and I imagine it's the same story in the UK.
a2 is pretty good
Yea if we can do that it could work
My E10 is entirely different domain from that but hits pretty hard too I think
