The 2024 WSOP will take place at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas from May 28 to July 17, 2024, with the Main Event running from July 3 to July 17. The Main Event – poker’s undisputed freezeout world championship – will have four starting days, beginning on Wednesday, July 3. Players may also register directly on Day 2.
Jeez, what is your problem?
I have never played a Double Board PLO Bomb Pot tournament before, and imagine most people on this forum haven't either. So it still seems completely reasonable to ask what the structure of this sort of tournament would be, and probably a lot of others would also be interested in the answer to that.
Yes, it was open during the WSOP last year. It's kind of a dingy room in my opinion, but it was open.
Dingy?
I played there numerous times last June, it was spotless, bright, well run.
I couldnt disagree more.
High hands every half hour to keep you from getting too bored
I saw little reason to go anywhere else to be honest.
back to the nl/plo bomb pot tourney, heard different opinions now from some people, can anybody confirm what is actually true:
a) its "normal" NLH for one mix, then PLO bomb pot for the other side
b) both will be played as bomb pot all the time, just one round with 2, one with 4 cards (NL and PLO)
?

I would think it has to be B

As long as "anywhere else" doesn't include Wynn, Bellagio, Venetian, Aria, Resorts, and Caesar's then I completely agree with you.

Wait, so horseshoe is "dingy" but Caesar's is some immaculate room?
Caesar's has too many tables in too small a space, and half the chairs dont work
Far too many seats you're getting bumped all night long by people walking around
I specifically do NOT play at Aria, Wynn, or Venetian since they're too prissy, but to say Caesar's is less dingy than horseshoe is ridiculous.
Caesar's is by far the closest you get to a man-cave edgy experience of all the poker rooms on the strip. It's loud, cramped and has empty cups and water bottles everywhere . . . and that's why it's my favorite room.
Who wants to play at Venetian where it feels like a morgue? No one talks and it's clean to the point of being anti-septic level, let's do surgery here clean.

I played there a couple of times when they had plo running. It was fine. I mean it's not the Wynn but way better than playing in the actual wsop cash game room.

You like your poker rooms not-too-clean and running high hand promotions every half hour to keep you from getting bored. I understand now why there is little need for you to play anywhere other than the Horseshoe.
Listen, I’m mostly kidding around with you at this point. I don’t think the Horseshoe is in the same league as the better rooms in town, but it’s hardly the worst, and you make some good points about Caesars. Let’s say that if Caesars is a more pleasant experience, it’s close. I think you were also sort of saying that there can be some charm in playing in a less antiseptic room (good description), and I agree with that, too. I personally find the Horseshoe on the dingier side but I have had fun playing there.
I’ll make this my last post on the topic since clearly this subject has annoyed a lot of people, and I think I’ve already made this point.
But new/inexperienced players are not equivalent to recreational/“fun” players. If you want to bring in new players, you need to focus on making them comfortable. And I think a stereotype has developed that new players will only be “comfortable” playing NLHE, and I don’t think that’s true at all.
You are absolutely right. But these new players have a myriad of tournaments to play during the wsop, like the collossus. Making some new tournaments to cater more to the gambler fun player type as well is only a positive.
I'll repeat what I said earlier: For the past couple of years, the King's Lounge has run double-board PLO bomb pot games. That is to say, all PLO double-board bomb pots, all the time.
It makes sense that an innovative management team would consider adding a double-board PLO bomb pot tournament to the mix.
(It makes somewhat less sense that the WSOP, who were pretty much the last people around to adopt big blind antes, would do it. #FireJackEffel)
The Horseshoe poker room, by the way, is clean, well-lit, and has new equipment, furniture, and chips, at least as of last June.

I'm curious, how many hands/hr do you think a PLO double board bomb pot table sees compared to other variants?
Is it faster than regular PLO table bc no preflop action or slower because of the extra dealer tasks?

Double Board PLO Bomb Pots play much, much slower than regular PLO. I think you may only get 60% to 70% as many hands as regular PLO. Probably even less if you are playing with inexperienced bomb pot players.

even slower than that imo (play it a lot):
a) every player is in the hand postflop, they all have a decision, and that decision takes much longer (bc of 2 boards)
b) split pots, especially the 3/4 ones, sometimes take forever
Some of the structures are out now.
WTF … structure for bomb pot tourney says, it’s only bomb pot every 8 hands (when the game changes), so really different from what it sounded like at first announcement.
Bummer

Well, on the plus side, NickMPK will sleep better knowing that “intimidated newbies” aren’t being taken advantage of lol.

True that 😂
I mean, when the tourney goes similar to all cash games in Vegas that are doing the bomb pot on dealer change (comparable to 8 hands), it will be decided then, bc those pots are way way bigger in general than the „normal ones“
What’s the softest day of the main?
How does paying the blinds work during bomb pots? Can plays angle-shoot by stalling to be in a certain position for when the bomb pots happen?

A) no blinds in BP, everybody pays ante
B) stalling still an issue, bc it’s a big advantage to be on the button in the BP
No idea how they are doing it at wsop, but I hope they’ll implement something clever like for example a second button that goes around and determines who is button for the BP (so that it’s fair). That’s how it’s done at Kings
Does anyone know when the online event schedule will be released?
