TSLA showing cracks?
With TSLA going in the past few days from 130 to 110 and now back up to 120, it seems the market is a bit on edge about this stock. They report earnings on the 23rd, and with the incredible run up it's had in the past 3 months (40-->120) I get the feeling that if they don't blow people away this stock has the potential to crack pretty violently.
With articles coming every day for and against TSLA, I generally believe it to be vastly overblown stock. They are never going to be able to sell enough cars at $80k to be extremely profitable, and 5 years is a long time to wait with no profits for the time they supposedly have a $40k model that will ready for mainstream.
Thoughts?
what is their moat? castles made of sand imo, buttressed by the shell game that is "okay, this line of business could never justify a 12-figure market cap, but what about THIS ONE?"
I do not think there is a moat... I think there is a time delay of 5 years from first production at a loss to actually making money on EV's for ANY car company. Tesla suffered ridicule for those 5 years and was on the verge of bankruptcy multiple times in those early years. The OEM's do not want to do the 5 years, and are sitting around thinking about how to get right to profitability with EV's.
If there was a moat, it was the EV charging infrastructure. Elon gave all other OEM's a pass and said they could use the T Charging Network.
On a side note, Tesla had Total annual deliveries 2023: 1,808,581
My guess for 2024 is 2.34M. (30% growth over 2023 )
funny, i don't see any names of ghost cities anywhere in that post
weird, i don't see the name of a ghost city in your response
Elon blackmailing Tesla is just amazing.
If you feel the need to discuss ghost cities.. or the Chinese economy, open a new thread and name it appropriately. This is not the place for it.
Thanks

rickroll was there too just generally stanning for China
grizy if you would like to name a ghost city on mindflayer's behalf you can do so as well
or just be an angry dipshit and whenever someone who is actually knowledgeable about the facts calls you out on your bullshit which you're unable to verify yet too much of a coward to admit you were wrong just say "i'm stanning" like a clown
Jonas now calling for 2024 (non-gaap!) eps below $2. But AI and robotics optionality will surely save them. 😀
Free-speech, free-trade advocate Musk calling for trade barriers, lol
Those BYD numbers probably inflated by all the sales to ghost cities anyways
Even if Chinese EV cars are the best I feel like much of the world will have hesitance to adopt their cars. Could be off on that, but just seems like the majority of the world is very warry of China.
when i was in egypt, i saw tons of byds on the road
about 80% of my uber rides were in a byd, i always asked them what they thought of their chinese car and they all said they loved it and their friends all wanted to buy byd's going forward after seeing their byd

Egypt buys 10% as many cars as the US, per year, as the US purchases in a month
oh yeah for sure, i wasn't trying to imply that it was a market of note etc
just that a lot of those off brand chinese stuff that we never see in our markets can have huge marketshare in 3rd and 4th tier locales
like oppo, a brand that you didn't even see much in its native china, i saw them used widely in north africa, perhaps the most commonly found cell phone brand there
Social media warping minds
I just saw my first Cyber Truck on the streets. It is an ugly piece of crap. I did get excited for a moment looking around hoping they were filming a Mad Max movie with Mel Gibson or Tom Hardy given the horrible look of that vehicle.
Haven't seen a CT yet in wild. However I am seeing more and more Rivians every day. Despite their stock being in the dumps I think they are growing.
IIHS prob a bunch of pedos
billionaire mogul drowns trapped in a TESLA. Very interesting resd about the glass windows.
Pretty crazy they were able to keep that under wraps for a month being Mitch McConnell’s sister in law. How do you back a car so far into a pond that they don’t have a towline long enough to reach it?
Bad headline, but doesn’t seem like anything to do with Tesla specifically.

Guessing she was drunk and accidentally gunned it when trying to brake while looking backwards.
You can only break the rear windows without laminated glass on recent Model Ys, no emergency latch. For the front windows you have to use the window's manual release emergency latch.
(IIRC, early model Ys had a separate emergency latch under a substantial piece of plastic that blends into the door handle. Surprisingly well hidden, which is not a plus.)
