New York City Area Hype Discussion
Did a quick check but apologies if this already exists, also might be a little premature either way but- given the movement towards online sports betting getting the nod, and the prospect of downstate casinos looming on the horizon would it make sense to create this thread for news on these potential future games?
What prompted me to make thread is the Ignition move out of NY- does this mean licensed regulated sites are on the way sooner rather than later?
I pretty much called this a year ago… the politicians are incentivized to take as long as possible.
The financial people involved know this is killing their bottom line. Can’t get concrete contracts in etc. the longer it takes the more it’s going to likely cost.
Losing revenue. Losing quarter after quarter of profit. Going to take even longer to gauge the patrons to get their 500m license fee back.
I won’t be playing slots or tables at any of these places bc you know the house needs to get that m
One of the first licenses will have poker, but I think "the favorite" is both will. The third, who knows.
So, no
Who actually benefits from a drawn-out process? I guess the location board gets paid longer, but are they actually paid enough to make that worthwhile? And people who are opposed to casinos near them get more time without, but if a casino's coming near them despite their opposition, putting it off a couple years isn't that big a win.
What am I not seeing? I'm missing a couple parts out of "Of course [nefarious forces] are delaying the process because of [benefits]."

I don't think there are any winners, outside of anti-gambling advocates, who just get a temporary stay of execution. We definitely don't win, the casinos definitely don't, the city doesn't, the state doesn't. So, almost no one
People say a lot of dumb ****

It doesn’t have to be nefarious (although it probably is)… but ya then NYC politics is a cluster. It’s one or the other….

RW, which is still probably a favorite to get a license, plans to add 2MM sqft of gaming, entertainment, retail, and dining to its existing 1MM sqft facility, that already has 6,500 slot machines. The plan is for 350,000 sqft of casino, which would make it the 6th largest casinos in the world, 2nd largest in the country. I would say it is highly unlikely that it doesn't include a poker room, and very likely the poker room opens when the casino opens.

Study says online casinos increased revenue for brick and mortar casinos in the six states that have both. I'd say the causality is questionable but hopefully it helps them get it done sooner rather than later in NY.
I bet 10k Sklansky dollars either 1 of 2 things…
Either
only 1 of the 3 casinos opens with poker
Or
No poker anywhere of the 3 new properties until at least 2027
I’d need some odds on 2032….
I think 2 of the 3 will have poker within a year of opening their "new" casinos. When that is, not willing to bet on, lol, but am willing to bet on the former. And not Sklansky bucks, either

Looks like they’re trying to make it into a resort

Interesting article about the community response to a few of the proposals (Sands LI, Mohegan Midtown East, Chicksaw? Coney Island, and Hard Rock Citi Field)
I think this is very clearly shaping up to be Caesar's Times Square vs Hard Rock Citi Field
...if Caesar's can get the support. If not, this may already be done.
I can't say my source, but I have good intel that the Hard Rock Citi Field is almost a 100% sure thing.

I mean, it depends on several people/boards so nothing is truly a 100% "done/sure thing" but yes, I agree, it's probably in the best shape of all the proposals
I live not too far from Grand Central. With East Side Access on the LIRR, I wouldn't hate it.
I do think, though, IF either can get community approval, Caesar's or Wynn may have an advantage because of the increased revenue they will likely general vs Citi Field because of being in Manhattan near/in touristy areas, but it's a big IF.
So, we shall see! I'm excited for this stuff to start playing out already. We've waited a long time for this all just to begin working through the process
That sucks I hope your source is wrong, or that it means that the acqueduct license is somehow dead. Having two in queens makes zero sense.

I live downtown in NYC. To add credence to my claim, my source works for a major investment firm within Hudson Yards. The CEO of that firm also happens to own a major sports team... in NYC... Queens (put two and two together) -- so I am constantly hearing about both the Hudson Yards Wynn developments, and the Citi Field casino situation.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a video/digital casino in Times Square, a Wynn Casino in Hudson Yards, and Hard Rock in Queens by 2027.
I doubt the Times Square casino will have a poker room, and the Wynn Hudson Yards will offer table games, but Idk about a poker room, but Hard Rock will def have a poker room.
Any Eta on when we can play poker at resorts World or empire city?

I mean, it's not up to him/them/whoever. There's a process. The buck does not stop with one person in the process. To say that they're the favorite, though, I would not disagree. I live downtown and am in real estate, as well.

So CET is applying for a table games license, but will only do video gaming? That makes no sense and is pure (off base IMO) speculation. Caesar's Times Square would definitely have table games if granted a license. That's kind of like, the whole point of this dog and pony show, Baxy.
Whether or not the 3rd licensee would have poker is up for debate, and I lean "yes" but am far from convinced. I don't think it's predetermined, either way, though

We’re currently waiting on the answers to the second round of questions from potential applicants. If the first round is used as benchmark, we should have the answers to the second round in April.
Once those answers go out, applications are due a month from then assuming no changes.
Then applicants will have to get community approval, those recommendations go to the actual gaming board, they have to grant the licenses, then any necessary zoning approval needs to happen.
Assuming resorts world and empire city get the licenses, optimistically we might see cards in the air before the end of 2025

Zoning first, with the CAC stage. If they can't say for sure that they'll be allowed to build what they're proposing, they won't be considered.

Today's gaming commission meeting confirming the bad news we all assumed, cards aren't hitting the air until 2026 earliest lol
