New York City Area Hype Discussion

New York City Area Hype Discussion

Did a quick check but apologies if this already exists, also might be a little premature either way but- given the movement towards online sports betting getting the nod, and the prospect of downstate casinos looming on the horizon would it make sense to create this thread for news on these potential future games?

What prompted me to make thread is the Ignition move out of NY- does this mean licensed regulated sites are on the way sooner rather than later?

Today's gaming commission meeting confirming the bad news we all assumed, cards aren't hitting the air until 2026 earliest lol

That’s being optimistic, there not even going to make a decision about where to put the casinos until late 2025, if we’re lucky it’ll be sometime in 2026. Sickening all this corruption .

Sincerely doubt if there are 3 licenses only they put one in TSQ and one less than 15 blocks away in Hudson Yards

Yeah, that's definitely not happening. I think what we've though the entire time will happen, Resorts World and Empire City get #1 and #2, the third license will likely be between Citi Field, Times Square, and HY

Reading through the transcript of yesterday's meeting, the commission saying they're ahead of schedule because the revenues from licensing aren't booked until 2026, is enraging lol

Considering it’s been over a year just for this questioning process no surprise this is gonna take forever

Today I saw a toyota prius with NY State Gaming written on the plates. I can't remember the exact phraisng but it said NYS Gaming and it was dark blue with the orange/yellow which is the color scheme of license lates issued prior to the pandemic . For my fellow NYers that know whatTLC plates, MD plates, City vehicle plates, they know what I'm talking about. But they just need to hurry the **** up and make it happen

Check back in a year, maybe there will be some movement by then. I doubt much will happen before next year's budget, except for more behinds the scenes stuff

How much will rake be? Alot higher or just a little higher or same as ac?

Especially considering they won’t be open until 2026 earlier, I would guess much closer to Encore Boston than AC rake

Addabbo narrows push for gaming expansion to only online poker, recognizing it as a skill game rather than a game of chance. Does this have a chance? I would be sooooo happy.

This would be amazing but I've learned not to get my hopes up for anything poker related in this state...

Feels like this would have needed to get into the state budget, right?

Supposedly Addabbo is calling for a special session or meeting or whatever Tuesday. I don't really understand the details, and I agree, never getting optimistic lol, but at least he's still trying I suppose

Online or real casinos in nyc will literally bring in billions. Them wasting this much time is ridiculous

Anything and everything gets stuffed into the budget but that's not the only way. Just, I guess, a convenience because it has to get passed and there's a deadline for it (though the deadline means little). The session continues until the end of June or so.

We legalized Marijuana in 2021 and there is like 1 licensed dispensary. if any state can F*ck something up , it's gonna be NY.
it's horrendous, they can;t just get their Sh*t together

we have some Grade A idiots here running the show:

You guys think that maybe after initial openings they're may be more casinos opening in like 10 years in NYC?

Not impossible, but I wouldn't bet on it. The limit on licenses is constitutional, not statutory, so allowing more would require re-amending (which means passage in two consecutive legislative years and then a statewide vote).

I see I see.. thanks

This just sheds light on a broken and outdated political system using lobbyists or special interest to line the pockets of politicians.

The only thing that makes sense is that politicians are slowing down this process on purpose.

Yea to line their own pockets. If it was for the good of the government we would be playing nyc poker by now

Hopes fade for last-chance New York online poker bill

2024 appears destined to be a year where no US state legalizes online poker, as a last-chance measure sponsored by New York State Senator Joe Addabbo remains stagnant in its initial Senate committee assignment more than two weeks after its May 7 introduction.

With the current NY state legislative session ending June 6, more than half of the 30 days available to move from introduction to passage have already elapsed. The lost time renders Senate Bill 9226's demise as all but a foregone conclusion, perhaps little more than a show of support from Sen. Addabbo, a long-time proponent of online poker and other forms of online gambling in the state.

Since Addabbo introduced SB 9226 as a standalone online-poker measure with other forms of online gambling removed from earlier measures, neither he nor his office have issued any statement specific to the bill. And that's not the only indicator that the SB 9226's future is dark.

At least two other prominent signals exist that Addabbo's bill is a dead horse walking. After its introduction, SB 9226 was immediately sent to the New York Senate's Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee, which Addabbo chairs. Addabbo had a brief window in which to add his online-poker bill to the list of bills being considered during the standing committee's last meeting, on May 14, for the current legislation session.

However, Addabbo chose not to add the bill to the meeting's agenda, despite nine other New York gambling-related measures being included, each of which was at least briefly discussed. At least one affiliate site erroneously reported that SB 9226 was among the bills to be mentioned; instead, it wasn't part of what was less than a 20-minute meeting, which was likely the committee's last gathering for the year.

Senator Addabbo also omitted mention of SB 9226 or online poker from a poll he offered to constituents via his NY Senate home page. The poll asked voters to offer their opinions on topics that he has continuing interest in. An earlier generalized online-gambling bill, since shelved, was among those listed, but the poker-only SB 9226 was missing from a short list that also touched on self-euthanasia, mass transit, and legalized prostitution measures.

New Renderings Revealed For ‘The Coney’ Casino Master Plan In Coney Island, Brooklyn

New renderings have been revealed for The Coney, a massive casino, hotel, and entertainment complex proposed for Coney Island, Brooklyn. From developers Saratoga Casino Holdings, Global Gaming Solutions, Legends, and Thor Equities, the project is the latest in the slew of New York City casino proposals vying for the coveted downstate gaming license. If realized, it would also bring a 32-story, 500-room hotel tower, a 2,500-seat concert venue, 90,000 square feet of meeting and event space, retail and dining establishments, and a public green space to the proverbial People’s Playground.

https://newyorkyimby.com/2024/05/new-ren...

It seems incredibly unlikely that Coney would get one of the licenses, but these look cool, especially in comparison to the soulless Hudson Yards renderings. I guess both designs capture their neighborhoods well.

Online not happening is the least surprising thing. I doubt we will get any progress on online until their are B&M full casinos here... which we know is slowlyyyyyyyyyyyy unfolding. Best case scenario for online is probably 2027 or 2028. Not getting my hopes up

Big new article from New York mag today.

The only news in it seems to be just that Jessica Ramos won't back alienating parkland to enable Cohen's plan at Citi Field. (And deferring to the local member is the Albany standard, so no one else is likely to do it either.)

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/...

I went to citi field the other day, casino there would be baaaaaaad imo. Not only is it really out the way of everyone(even if you live in flushing its a long walk), but also the parking is bad (if theres a mets game it will be like $50) and if thats the only one in the five boroughs it will be horribly packed. There is not that much surrounding space to build a big casino if you ask me
