Yeah, showrunners have said the season is a complete story and there are no immediate plans for S2. Clavell wrote several other historical novels set in Asia, so maybe they'll adapt one of those. I think Shogun was easily the most successful though.

I re-read the entire Asian Saga a few years ago, so I'd be in on that.

Of course, there couldn't be a cliffhanger is they did that as Tai-Pan, the next in the time line, takes place 240 years after Shogun and that's set in Hong Kong, not Japan.

Great episode. Yabushige is such a mother****er but you can't help but like him and his ability to survive. Should be lots of Emmy nominations from this show with the actress playing Mariko and the actor playing Yabushige at the top of the list. Can't wait for the finale. It's been a great show with just about no filler.

Yeah took me a minute to figure out what Yabushige was up to.

Masters of the Air and this were true works of perfection in the limited series category this past season.

I thought Shogun was a book series and not just a single book. That does change things.

Masters of the Air had some really good moments, but overal it wasnt that great imo. Certainly not compared to BoB and The Pacific.

I'd argue it might have been the hardest of the 3 to make convincingly. But yes it was the weakest of the 3 (which is still high praise).

and so far toranaga is smarter in the book... like with the whole jail thing...

Wasn’t that revealed later though? I just re-read the book and am pretty sure that we learn later on that Toranaga planned the whole thing / situated Yabu to be there under some pretense

Not my favorite episode. I hated Anjin in this episode. Really good show overall though.

I was a bookreader but forgot a lot of the details. Thought finale and show overall was really, really good.

Really refreshing to see a show like this without any handholding or over the top action scenes.

Yeah the way it wrapped without needing massive battles was pretty cool.

Just incredible acting end to end.

And yeah the Anjin was a bottom 3 character. But was good enough.

It was really really good and I really wasn't let down by the lack of a finale battle I was assuming would happen. I am sure Sun Tzu probably said something about the best battle is one you can win without fighting. Some elite acting as well

Great show, great cast with Yabushige and Mariko being my favorites. FX is the king of the modern tv era.

There was a final battle, but the book relates it from a retrospective account. Toranaga gets the battle at the place and time of his choosing and crushes Ishido's forces. The direct quote from the book states "40,000 heads were taken."Ishido does not die honorably in battle, but suffers an extremely ignominious end."

finally got around to watching this. Gotta say it was top notch, can't really fault any of it

2 more seasons? Season 1 finished the book. What are they going to use for plot and characters?

1. Make up the next x number of years?
2. Take up with Gai Jin, the only other book by Clavell set in Japan, which takes place 260+ years after Shogun?
3. Shift focus to Hong Kong and start with Tai Pan 240 years after Shogun?

I'll watch, of course, but #2 or #3 above would be preferable to #1

Can't say I'm happy for more seasons. But ready to be surprised. Sometimes, they do get it right.

While the first season of Shōgun covered the entirety of Clavell’s novel, it sounds like the next season will pull its material from Japanese history. So far, the show has balanced fact and fiction, and the second season will likely turn to a dramatized version of what really went on in 17th-century Japan. “We don’t have James Clavell’s novel anymore, but we learned his spirit and the taste of storytelling,” Sanada told THR. “Keeping quality is the most important thing to me.”
