Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
There is a hill just outside Gaza on the Israeli side where people can go to see the bombing. We just recently cancelled a trip to Israel June 6th-26th because of Hamas. We had friends there who mentioned we could go check it out if we wanted. I don't think people are throwing party's. Thanks to Hamas we ended up going to Yellowstone/Grand Teton.

Seems like a good change for you anyway. Seeing the beauty of nature sounds much preferable to the sadness of witnessing the area where 3 of the world's biggest hate groups came into existence.

What do you have against people born in West Africa?

As if we couldn’t guess.

I have nothing against them but I don't discuss with them as I do with western people resentful of the west, which is what I thought you were.

If you aren't a western and dislike the west core values (as you abundantly made clear) it's very different

Interesting. You think I'm not a "westerner"? How do you define that?

I asked your ethnicity (or multiple) and you didn't comment.

So what's your ethnicity (according to your definition of it)?

Place of birth matters very little per SE, but you talked about Africa as If you felt African identity, lived there a lot and so on, and that matters a lot.

It's none of your business. Maybe I don't have an ethnicity, the same as you say you don't?

So you will talk to people critical of the West only if in your eyes they have the right ethnicity?

by jalfrezi k

I said Italian isn't an ethnicity (according to the normal use of the word) but everyone has an ethnicity (however mixed) according to my definition, it's just about doing a DNA test.

According to yours though it can be about culture, you don't have any culture(s) you identify to be a part of?

Anyway my point is just that when a westerner is anti west it's very different than when a non western is anti west. The latter is far less problematic to me

You believe ethnicity is 100% gene based?

by jalfrezi k

You believe ethnicity is 100% gene based?

Yes as do normal people (as per ample mainstream proof I provided), ethnicity is a synonym of ancestry in normal parlance.

So correct me if I'm wrong but when you say

and you asked my ethnicity (to decide whether you would discuss with me as you do with western people), it's gene-based?

No I asked yours explicitly according to your definition

Why would you be interested in my definition of ethnicity which you've consistently pooh-poohed when you can use your own which you believe is correct?

If I provide you with my DNA test results, can you use that instead?

by jalfrezi k

Why would you be interested in my definition of ethnicity which you've consistently pooh-poohed when you can use your own which you believe is correct?

Because in this case I am interested in the culture(s) you identify with. I could have simply asked for that, but for you that's a synonym of ethnicity so I used ethnicity.

I was trying to speak your language to you lol.

Depending on self identified culture arguments change a lot, while they don't on the basis of your interlocutor dna

I think I'm getting there. So if someone agrees with the dictionary definition of ethnicity (which includes culture) then you use that definition, but if they believe that ethnicity is 100% gene-based then you'll use that definition instead?

Apart from showing you have no real idea what you think ethnicity means, how do you know which definition someone's using when you ask them what their ethnicity is to determine whether you want to debate with them?

How does this work in real life (assuming you have one, which is debatable from your daily word count here)?

If you meet someone new, what criteria do you use to determine their ethnicity before engaging them in debate?

If you remember the context, you were making a claim about Jewish Londoners not feeling safe because of AS, which was surprising to me because it’s not something I’ve heard here.

You then thought citing your father who you say lives in Golders Green, a one person sample, was enough to support your claim.

Then unfortunately for you BOIDS, an actual Jewish Londoner who probably gets out and about a lot more than your dad, chimed in and said he doesn’t feel any less safe here.

So, yes, it would be la

It was agreeing with another poster, and based on how actual Jews I know feel.

Friends and family doesn’t equal one person, as I said my dad left a long time ago.

You, of course, instantly said I was a liar, bc accuse the other side of what you do,

You used your “Jewish neighbor” as your sample.

Lastly, BOIDS said he isn’t visibly Jewish, as his experience can’t be compared with those who wear Kippahs and other Jewish garb.

So yes, it would be laughable if you weren’t so sad.

I cited several Jewish neighbours, not one "relative". Neither is very scientific but therein lies the difference.

A google search for most Jewish London area might have returned Golders Green but it clearly didn't show that there are Arabic families living there too. I don't know if/why your dad feels less safe, and if it's true then it's clearly bad but then again if he walks around London espousing the same views his son does online he should probably expect some pushback.

And there it is, the justification of Jew-hatred.

Also, I know reading comprehension is hard, but he doesn’t live there anymore. However, many relativeS (notice the ‘s’ at the end—that indicates PLURAL) still do.

In case you’re still confused, plural means more than one.

Nice edit too, good think I replied first.

Jews in my life are freaking out, almost regardless of where they live now. The shooting at the school in Toronto took a bunch of on edge folks and turned them into insomniacs. It's not good out there right now.

What's interesting is the Jews checking in on us the most are Israeli ones, asking if we're ok. Which is what I was trying to explain before.

Israel is the only place where you don't find the posters ripped down for example. Whatever the essence of that is, is what we were trying to explain pages back. The strength in numbers and community element matters in this context.

Yes, a good think would be a good idea.

Not much point in this any more. Your second hand account of AS on the streets of London lacks any credibility and was even refuted by a Jewish poster here, but isn't falsifiable.

Yep, in my haste I made a typo. Very rich coming from the guy who doesn’t know what an ‘s’ at the end of a word means.

Still waiting for your response to BOIDS not feeling uncomfortable bc he isn’t visibly Jewish? Or I assume you’ll just keep ignoring that.

My second hand account may not mean much, but this does:
