New York City Area Hype Discussion
Did a quick check but apologies if this already exists, also might be a little premature either way but- given the movement towards online sports betting getting the nod, and the prospect of downstate casinos looming on the horizon would it make sense to create this thread for news on these potential future games?
What prompted me to make thread is the Ignition move out of NY- does this mean licensed regulated sites are on the way sooner rather than later?
I dont know how to add pictures here but essentially theres citi field and a parking lot, its tight
There are acres of land literally across the street from the stadium on Seaver Way that are in play. There are lots of potential issues with Flushing, but space isn't one of them.
Anything but Manhattan would truly suck. There will be 50 opposing arguments ITT, but I'll set my calendar to check back here annually to deliver the "I told you so" when appropriate. If they don't adjust for traffic flow, then every option will truly suck, but Manhattan the least.

I agree with this, at least as the third license assuming first two go toyonkers and resorts
I wonder how much this senator was paid to oppose the Shea Stadium casino.
https://nypost.com/2024/05/28/us-news/ny...
She said she opposes it because it's designated as "Park land".
But then she says "As an alternative, Ramos said she has drafted a bill that would allow Cohen to build a convention center and hotel — but not a casino — and more than double the proposed open green space."
What's the difference? The only way this could make sense is if she was paid off heavily to oppose the casino, so the state won't look so bad when they award it to whoever they already decided to award it to. We're just watching a dog and pony show at this point.

She opposes it because he constituents are heavily against it. I fight with them on Reddit about this issue and get downvoted into oblivion if I ever express a pro-gaming POV
Are you talking about all that grassy area? Or just the stadium and surronding parking lots.
He's talking about this
https://slate.com/human-interest/2013/11.... Buying it all out, and demolishing it, plus the waterfront, which needs an easement from Ramos. There's a lot of untapped potential there. NYC has been trying to redevelop that area my entire lifetime

Shae is well separated from residential areas with major highways on every side of it. It's not like a gambler can walk to someone's house from the casino, it's impossible unless you run across an 8 lane highway.

The idea, I think, is that the casino-centered redevelopment of the stadium's parking lot will spur redevelopment in the surrounding area, which has been on the city's wishlist for ages. The wider Willets Point area isn't the Ramos/Cohen issue.
The casino proposal is for basically north from the 7 train to the highway, east of the stadium. The parking lots are technically parkland, and state law doesn't allow parkland to be swapped for gambling. The bill to make the allowance in this case is what Cohen needs from Ramos. She's saying sure, replace the parking lots with development and green space, just not a casino. As if any fraction of these casino proposals will ever exist without the casino.

Ohhhh, so buy out all the auto shops, tear it down and build casino space/parking? Oh ok that makes more sense lol.
If I said it once I said it a thousand times. The "state" already knows where the casinos are going and who will be operating them, as I've said before. The politicians work for their handlers, who control them very easily with money. Money is the route of all evil. I'm taking side action that the existing "racinos" in NYC (yonkers isn't NYC) will be full casinos after all's said and done. I jus kno to much (that's all I can say atm rn).
Why the excessive waste of time for the shoe in racinos? They could be up and operating within a few months
With the news yesterday, I think the clear favorites are
Wynn in Hudson Yards
Resorts World Queens
MGM in Yonkers
Seems like there is too much opposition to the Times Square proposal, otherwise, I would consider that the favorite for the 3rd license
Id take those three happily, just one manhattan joint lol

Assuming Hochul signs looks like we finally have an updated timeline. 12/31/25 latest date for applications due, which means 3/31/26 latest date licenses granted. Of course could just be changed again at anytime but I’m gonna remain hopeful for cards in the air at resorts and empire in summer 26
Hochul has until the end of the year to sign (or not) the 800+ bills the legislature has passed this session.
It sets the application deadline at 8/31/25. Then the community advisory committee for each has to be established within 30 days, and has 120 days from establishment to approve or not.
12/31/25 (with a possible 30-day extension) is the deadline for the location board to recommend winners to the gaming commission, which then has 30 days (with a possible 30-day extension) to grant the licenses. All of which leads to the 3/31/26 latest license date. Since there aren't 150 days between 8/31 and 12/31, taking the extensions seems guaranteed.
question for you new york guys and gals,
are you at all concerned about companies like Wynn (and to some extent MGM) running poker in NYC?
Its pretty clear from my experience in Massachusetts that these companies do not care one bit about poker, poker players. I can't imagine the rake being any better if not worse than Mass and its pretty clear when there isn't clear competition (like Vegas) its going to be a shitshow for the poker community.
IMO one of the worst things to happen to New England Poker has been letting corporate casinos have a monopoly.
I wishing you the best and having lived in NYC for ten years will be crossing my fingers that this isn't the case. wishing you luck.

I think most of us assume there’s going to be these types of issues regardless of which companies are running the rooms. My guess is $10 cap rake minimum. I’m personally under the belief there will be at least two large poker rooms when the three casinos open, but plenty people question whether there will be poker at all.
If they do have poker it just becomes a question of if the games being better and not having to commute to Parx/AC offset the rake
