Dak must be licking his chops.

Don't think that deal has too much impact on him. At least not if the rumors are true that he's asking for $60mil/season.

But the floor for Tua might have changed from "what Goff got" to "what Lawrence got"?

by Tom Ames k

Gradner not even on the list???

What an outrage!

by newguyhere k

I just went with current listed starters, otherwise he'd be #1 obv

Trevor gets PAAAIIIDDD.

5/275/200

by RT k

This is a trevorsty! A complete trevorsty!

The ****ing audacity of this deal

Classic baalsack. An overpay for no reason other than self preservation

I would say for the most part those HPV pool jumping in jaguars fans are too ****ing stupid to understand how screwed they are

Not needle tho

Sorry needle

Jags owner and Jags fans don't want to win. they just want to have some hope and to not be obsolete. 7-10 to 11-6 every year for the next 5 would be incredible for them

Baalke can continue to survive under these circumstances

$60m per will be the floor if Trevor is getting $55m. I honestly wonder what he'd get if he can get to free agency off the back of another good season

Now we're approaching the territory where even I don't think Tua should get that much, but I do want Miami to sign him.

I was talking about Dak

by feel wrath k

I was talking about Dak

Oh ok, because Madlex was talking about Tua.

I always thought the floor was already $60mm for Dak?

by newguyhere k

I was also talking about Dak. If he's been asking for $60mil+ in the past, it doesn't really matter if Lawrence gets $52mil or $55mil.

For Tua it does matter because there's not really an argument to be made why he should make less than Lawrence. But I guess with Tua it's more about guaranteed money/years anyway.

I'd much rather have the Legend of Gardner Minshew than Trevor.

And that's not just because I love Gardner.

I would prefer Trevor over Gardner.

I think you’re so obsessed with Tua that you assume everyone else is!

by Needle77 k

I would prefer Trevor over Gardner.

It’s not even close. There’s two levels at least between them.

Minshew’s a good back up but very limited

by feel wrath k

I think you’re so obsessed with Tua that you assume everyone else is!

Probably.

I'm also obsessed with talking about **** of a QB Trevor is lol

But yes, I would also take Trevor over Minshew in a heartbeat.

by Needle77 k

blink twice if you sympathize with patty hearst

sorry needle

is the cap projected to double in a few years or something?

by newguyhere k

But yes, I would also take Trevor over Minshew in a heartbeat.

Minshew makes ~$12 million/yr, Trevor makes ~$55 million/yr.
I'll take Minshew plus another $43 million worth of teammate talent, versus Trevor minus $43 million worth of teammate talent.

If Dak's been asking for $60mil+ in the past, it doesn't really matter if (Trevor) Lawrence gets $55mil.

Cowboy (AT&T) stadium has 80,000+ seats, plus standing room, Dak sells tickets.
Dak will get paid for his 'marketability', versus his 'playoff' ability'.

Checkmate.

Trevor's cap hit this year is ~$7 million more than Minshew.
Trevor's cap hit next year is ~$3 million more than Minshew.

Trevor will then be 8% of today's cap in 2027.
Trevor will then be 11% of today's cap in 2028.
The "killer" year is 2028. He will be 14% of today's cap. 2028 is essentially a lifetime from now and likely a restructure anyway. 2029 and 2030 are non factor years where his cap hit is 78 mil and 74 mil.

Cap typically increases between 6-8% though post covid the one down year when it went down 8% we have seen huge increases of 14% in 2022 and nearly 14% again this year.

The contract is a huge nothing. It's the commitment. I truly believe the contract today is similar to what it would have been a year from now.

Trevor was hindered by injuries last year. Not an excuse. As I believe those injuries very well might not be a single year thing. He puts himself in some very precarious positions. Yes, the protection scheme has failed him. And whether that was misses by him or inherent weaknesses due to the talent at RB and interior OL, the center position last year in Jacksonville would fit the description of potentially a bottom 3 charted season since 2002, it is troublesome.

Obviously his upside is near the top of the league. And he has shown the ability to be a competitive QB in the league and definitely a QB that can win multiple playoff games. Consistency is a major issue and in year 4 he has to show that. The ability to run the ball and force teams to actually play tighter zones and man will make his life easier. But that is a huge ask still.

We have not seen the best of Trevor. My major concern is we never will. His potential will never be utilized due to the malpractice of offensive "minds" that he has had to start his career with. It's been Mike Martz bad.

"$43 million more" for players is just not a real comment when it comes to NFL contracts.

Jags made a nice run 2 years ago, its possible. I was wondering how they would do last year after such a strong finish season before. Had the same exact thought about Detroit. They went two different ways.

Will see Jags mid Dec. Hopefully meaningful for one of us.

This part confuses me?

by madlex k

This part confuses me?

Essentially by the time 2026 and 2027 roll around his cap hit will be similar in those years as it is the next 2 years. Similar in the sense that it will likely make little impact on the Jaguars ability to sign free agents.

2028 will hurt a bit if he is not the guy. But if he is not the guy it doesn't matter what his cap hit is that year as at that point the Jaguars will cut him loose and move on to the next.

Again, the contract and the money is not the problem here.
