Does anyone want to give me odds that PW is a gimmick account someone created to give the dumbest possible takes on every single topic?

nobody. there is no law that says I am responsible for people being able to understand me.

I am mystified to why you are trotting out "law". This is a discussion board. In order to discuss things, you need to be understood. In fact, I would say that is the essence of discussion.

If everybody else can understand one another and none of them can understand you, that's a "you" problem.

You dont represent everyone.

I manage when I talk to him. But I tried. You could t0o if you wanted two.

A Problem and a responsibility are two different things.

by Rococo m

Even if your reason was simply that you enjoy shouting?

Then I would do that, and you would expect me to I suppose as well.

I mean take vaping: I do vape indoor everywhere it's not explicitly forbidden (it isn't in many places in Italy) and if someone nearby complains idgaf .

I occasionally told tourists that thought it was illegal everywhere it wasn't out of courtesy (so they avoid future confrontations ) but that's about it

They do say that great minds think alike.

Some say that. Not in my experience

I'd be interested in a thread where only JB, PW and chez are allowed to post to see how the conversation develops.

We can be confident taht you wouldn't understand it. You would probably enjoy it.

We should throw some Trump speeches in there and see if anyone can spot the difference.

we should. And sharks and batteries and elephants

So, anyway, TIL that being an effective enough communicator so that others understand what I am trying to say is not my sole responsibility, although it is my problem, whatever tf any of that means. Every day's a school day, thanks chaps.

Many of us care about other people and try to be kind and respectful to others. You can choose to be a jerk for the sake of it, I guess.

This is the correct answer.

Got it. You refuse common courtesies unless they are required by law. If you are sitting on an airplane and someone asks you to close the window because the sun is casting a glare on their TV screen, you refuse if you would prefer to have the window open.

If your neighbor politely asks if you would turn the music down because she is trying to sleep, you refuse if you would prefer to have the music loud.

Please don't move anywhere near me.

I could argue that you have a moral imperative to try and understand what someone says when they are speaking to you.

Interestingly enough, I have no issues understanding what other posters are saying. I disagree with their points, but I understand what they are trying to convey.

by PointlessWords m

there is no law that says I am responsible for people being able to understand me. of course that would be better if people could, but what is better and what is legally required are two different things.

Who said anything about a legal requirement? If you invented a language and then tried to speak that language to people on the subway, it wouldn't be a violation of law. It would just be a futile attempt at communication. And you would be entirely responsible for the fact that other people were unable to understand you.

No I refuse what for me is significant sacrifice (give up vaping) if it's not mandatory.

I open doors to women and so on as that's nice to do and doesn't cost to me.

Noise emissions are very precisely regulated at least in Italy and anyway for music isn't not costly for me to use headphones.

As for the plane light I can't answer as I always take that seat and always put it down (only way to sleep without being disturbed by people having to go to the bathroom and so on).

But to the shouting, if I am shouting to try to find my son I will keep shouting

I understand and practice the niceties that make for a functioning, pleasant society. But why is someone's TV watching a priority over my enjoyment of looking out the window and getting some light? I sit by the window for a reason.

Obviously. If your son is lost, shout away.

I asked whether you would continue shouting if your only reason for shouting was that you enjoyed it. And your response was yes.

I can't tell if this is a serious comment or a dig at Luciom.

Clearly it’s serious.

by PointlessWords m

Clearly it’s serious.

You are probably correct.

I can't imagine refusing such a request, but I guess Didace is suggesting that he would.

Some people consider it rude to ask. Like very rude
