I can't tell if this is a serious comment or a dig at Luciom.

I'm sure it's serious, I was thinking the same thing. Windows are a bigger priority on airplanes than are video screens. It's not every day that most people get an opportunity to view the world from high in the sky. You can go a few hours without watching a video which you can do any other time.

I agreed with your general point and other examples, but you're wrong about this one.

This discussion reminds me of a video I saw recently...

Luciom just wants to see the No Hammocks sign, guys. Its kind of adorable.

Respond to them in incomprehensible word salad, keep the window open, then sit back smugly satisfied that not being able to understand you is their fault (or responsibility, or problem, or something - I get confused).

For frequent flyers, the bolded most certainly is not true as a general matter, but I guess it always depends on the flight and the weather.

by Rococo m

You are probably correct.

I can't imagine refusing such a request, but I guess Didace is suggesting that he would.

So who gets priority? People watching movies bother me when I'm reading. It's impossible to totally ignore when it's right next to you, and they are always laughing out loud. Do I get to say, "I'm reading here. Keep it down and shield your screen from me?"

Does anyone want to give me odds that PW is a gimmick account someone created to give the dumbest possible takes on every single topic?

Wait, the 30 some year old retired, grad student who is in the top 5 % of wage earners and wants staking for 1/3 live action and the govt to pay for his hookers despite being a real ladies man may not be real?

If the bus driver had a sock and a bar of soap he could have ended that quickly.

won't lie, I would love to see it

by Rococo m

Obviously. If your son is lost, shout away.

Narrator: His son wasn't lost.

Strike "gimmick" from that sentence, and you are seeing it.

I would view a request to close my window as trivial. But I'm not the boss of you. Do what you want. I've never had a problem with passengers laughing out loud on airplanes while watching movies, but maybe you have. People watching movies don't disturb my reading. But maybe you are more easily distracted.

This is my wife. She has over 2 million lifetime miles and has forgotten she is soaring over the world in a magical metal tube at 25,000 ft.

I want to add that I agree with your larger point. I just thought this particular example wasn't the best.

It's a question for which someone's answer doesn't really prove anything, because there are too many unknown factors. For example, if the plane is flying over some interesting scenery and the person is intently staring out the window, it seems to me inconsiderate to even make the request at that time, whereas if the person hasn't glanced out the window once the entire flight, it's quite a reasonable request.

I think that a decent number of people on the internet operate in a haze. They aren't entirely serious, but they aren't pure trolls either. Many seemingly have embraced the haze and have stopped understanding or caring about the distinction.

Fair enough. Didace is probably correct that this wasn't the best example to illustrate my larger point. In most cases, I would view the request as trivial, but if I am intently looking at a majestic mountain range or the aurora borealis, then maybe don't ask me to close the window.

That would certainly explain someone like PW, who at times does seem like he's completely trolling (and I'm one who rarely assumes anyone is a troll, to my detriment at times), and other times seems entirely sincere.

It got me thinking, though, about how airplane seating tests the rude-assertive-considerate-pushover range of personalities like few other situations do.

The best thing to do for airplane seating is to board the plane last, regardless of which boarding group you are in.

Most flights aren't full and you can usually find your pick of seats up front and sometimes entire sections of seats.

Just try to find a compromise. Some of each is usually best.

Dont need to fly. Just live in a flat (apartment). Especially during lockdown when the upstairs flat is stuck with 2 kids at home who amongst other things want (are being forced) to learn to play musical instruments.

Probably still more listenable than your Supertramp records though.

Chez always struck me more a a Spice Girls type of guy.

It's not the records. It's me singing along

Except maybe for crass where my singing may be preferable

Flying is trivial in comparison. Just light up a *** and relax

Where have you been flying to???? I do my share of flying and if a flight isn't full it's pretty damn close. Can't remember last time I saw entire sections of empty seats.

I suggest you develop a sudden interest in playing the bagpipes.

This year it's been: Phoenix to San Diego and back, Phoenix to Houston, Houston to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale to Guatemala City, Guatemala City to San Salvador, San Salvador to Medellin, Medellin to Bogota to Villavicencio, Bogota to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale to Greenville South Carolina, Asheville NC to Phoenix. All on either Frontier, Spirit, Avianca, or Jet Blue.

And that's pretty typical for me. I flew United last year from Chicago to Sao Paolo on a 787 and that was either full or very close to full but otherwise it seems pretty rare.

I never select my seats and can't remember the last time I was even assigned a middle seat let alone sat in one.

im in the bottom 5% of wage earners btw. and I dont have hookers that I want the govt to pay for lmao
