Let's talk about Stream and buy mountains of games
I thought we might like to have a Steam offers catch-all thread, and maybe even any general discussion about the service.
Like many of us here I have been using Steam since it first appeared with Half Life 2. Initially it seemed pointless and intrusive, but we put up with it because, well, we needed to play CS:S and HL2. Over the years I have found myself buying more and more from Steam and now I pretty much exclusively buy my games there. In fact Valve have so got their model sorted that I would pay a few dollars more for the ease of having it in my Steam collection rather than the hassle of hard copy install.
This is not really necessary though since these days if you wait around for offers you can end up owning more than you can ever play. I have Batman, Far Cry 2, Bioshock 2, Borderlands, Torchlight and much more just half played or not played at all. All of these have been purchased at a reduced rate.
Anyway rather than waffle on further the reason I started this thread is to point out
--->
Left 4 Dead was my game of 2008 but I had enough other stuff to play and was a bit pissed off that they released 2 so quickly afterwards that I didn't buy it at full price. Now I am immediately picking it up. Sadly for you hardened players you can expect a wave of n00bs to arrive due to this deal.
That is all, feel free to add any good Steam offers as and when they appear to this thread and also to discuss the Steam service in general.
I'm happy for the recent D4 trial, it was pleasant for 2 hours although I did go for level 20, but I realised fairly quickly how shallow this game is. Easy pass.
Latest trailer for the Snake Eater remake looks so damn good.
Mash,
Where are you in Talos 2? I'm currently on South 2. South 1, statue with green target was tough... whew.
I had a lot of travels lately and was busy with Mario Odyssey (which was a bit disappointing) so parked Talos for a while. I already noticed facing issues in N1 which doesn't help.
I'm in N2 because of peer pressure.
lol... GL
So far, I think the puzzles are more reasonable than talo1. I remember having to do crazy stuff to complete some of the old ones.
But then again, I haven't been to West 1-3 yet. 😀
BTW, I also bought Diablo 4 during the latest sale. I'll give it a spin this summer. I loved Diablo 2. Mindless clicking and phat loot! What's not to like?
It's been a while since I played Talos 1 but I remember being able to always think of something that should be next and this is what I love about the game. When it comes to Zachtronics it's more often that I'm stuck without any idea how to even continue and I quit these games fairly early but in Talos it's more clear what could be the next move. Talos 2 mechanics seem more advanced/interesting so we'll see how it plays out.

I agree. One thing that I've been doing when stuck in the levels is that thinking of the end and working backwards usually proves helpful.
But even so, tonight I was stuck in South 2 puzzle 8 for an embarrassing long time.
Mash,
In Talos 2, I noticed with a well timed jump, you can get inside the Gold door puzzle for South 3. I didn't jump down into the puzzle because I was worried it would screw up my game. Either trapping me or screwing up the story.
I already did N2-3 non-intended way, I'm okay with it but I'd rather not do anything else if I don't do it myself. 😉
omg DLC just released, I need to step up my game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/29814...

Woot! I was surprised to see the game update yesterday and then the dlc options popped up!
BTW in South 3, I am stuck on the 2nd statute looking for a red laser source. I need a reflector and can't figure where to grab/use one. I spent a bunch of time on it and then moved on to the megastructure.
I hate leaving things undone.
I still have N1-8 uncleared and like 3 puzzles in N3 so not sure if I can catch up not to mention DLC. I also try to clear all.

My wife and I have been playing the game together. That definitely helps when working through the tougher puzzles. (We usually alternate puzzles)
But Diablo 4 has been threatening to disrupt the pace.

So I was stuck a bit on some North puzzles but today I slept well and pushed through completing all of North. South 1 was a also breeze surprisingly - you need to have a good day creatively to play Talos, sometimes I'm annoyed after 15-20 minutes and today I was able to play for 1-2 hours.
Ah sorry to be an ass. It would be fun for a bit then.
I'm predominately a big (read: addicted) ARPG player, with a distaste for Diablo, so what I say can be ignored!
Better listen to the fans.
D4 has a 2.3 user rating on MetaCritic. And I now understand why. There isn't a great diversity of things to do after the campaign ends. I might not be playing correctly, but I just go to unbeaten dungeons and kill a bunch of enemies, while almost never picking up gear I can use.

I put a lot of effort in the North puzzles. Nice job! GL on the South puzzles/statues. 😀
Mash,
FYI... Be prepared for a serious cranking up of the difficulty on the West puzzles. I am stumped hard on West 1 puzzle 3. Stumped. Hours. Stumped.
And puzzle 1 and 2 weren't that easy either.
The way forward is sometimes backward
Picked up Midnight Suns when it was free on Epic Games Store. Real shame it sold poorly. It's a card game (never played one before) blended with a social simulator. Really enjoying it so far.
Even though I had it easy in first 3 in West I used spark for one of triangle puzzles in S3 - it seems so simple yet I tried it like 5 times and have no idea how to even approach it.
Wow, nice job.
I did W1/p4, w1/Triangle, and the two w1/statues last night. Puzzle 4 and the triangle seemed much easier than puzzle 3. The two statues were easier than South 3.
Which South 3 Triangle puzzle? The gravwall or the reflectors/pressure plates. The later has a ton of steps to the end
Just W1-8 left for me. I'm leaving for Berlin tomorrow for 3 days so won't be able to play. The triangle puzzle I meant one/two (easy) connectors and lift at the beginning.
Yeah that triangle puzzle required a bunch of tower of Hanoi type moves. Step one is doing the steps to charge the ball device. A pretty tricky puzzle.
Tonight, I finished the "Jailbreak" Triangle for West 1. I thought it was pretty tough. When I finally completed it I wondered what took so long...
Have puzzles 7 and 8 left.
