Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
wtf? Lots of us care about observing human rights, even if some of them are terrorists.

Absolutely horrendous post.

Ok, I was using a bit of hyperbole.

But it was asked why people seemed to care more about civilian women being raped than about terrorist men being given gender-related abuse or whatever it was. This shouldn't have been a surprise, and I don't know how anyone could think they were close to equivalent.

They aren't even vaguely similar which is why the pro Hamas crowd needs to "make it sound like" the IDF raped civilian women.

They tried, they failed, and now that people understand that at most, allegedely, the IDF tortured terrorists with sexual violence, while Hamas provenly mass raped civilian Israeli women, no one changed their mind about which side to support.

There’s no pro Hamas crowd here. Stop mischaracterising people’s views.

There is no pro Hamas crowd, except the people who systematically use Hamas sources from twitter, who always believe Hamas sources when quoted in mainstream media articles, who agree with a lot of the Hamas manifesto, and so on

If Israel were to stop their attacks in Gaza today, and agree to an international plan to allow Gazans to have sovereignty over the area where they live, do you think Hamas should be allowed to participate in the plans, or to be involved in the new government?

That's up to the Palestinian people isn't it?

You Americans are very good at deciding who should represent people around the world, and it almost always ends in disaster.

In just one sentence you talk about Gazans having sovereignty but completely fail to understand what that means.

We understand what that means. The Palestinians elect and support Jihad, so now they are getting jihad. They have nothing to complain about. They are getting what they want. It isn't Israel's job to let them win the wars the Palestinians start, that is their job.

Turning a dog into a rapist is no easy thing, let me tell you. But I'm going to figure this out. Will save me from buying an alarm system!

In case it’s not blatantly obvious to anyone with 25%+ functioning brain cells, an unconditional ceasefire leaving Gazans to govern themselves will inevitably mean Hamas stays in power, having been rewarded for Oct 7 rather handsomely.

And unconditional aid to rebuild Gaza will inevitably mean rebuilding the tunnel network and replenishing Hamas weapons cache that ultimately feeds into, as Hamas has repeatedly said, bigger and more spectacular Oct 7s on Israel until the Jews are expelled from the area.

France offering to ally with the Lebanese govt to push Hezbollah back to the border they promised to stay behind (and then crossed before the ink was dry) is very bizarre. Hezbollah knows there is no threat of force behind it, so it is an empty threat as far as they are concerned.

I assume the plan is Hezbollah "agrees" to go back and then Israel is pressured to not counterattack. And then Hezbollah will stay right where they are. Of course Hezbollah would have to agree to stop attacking Israel (at least temporarily) for the ruse to work, and they dont seem inclined to do that right now.

I do wonder how the Olympics are going to go if it happens right in the middle of a war between Lebanon and Israel. The far left and Islamists in France are going to be very energized and is going to be hard to feel safe if you are an athlete or fan. Does Israel even attend the Olympics if it is during a war with Lebanon?

which is why supporting such an arrangement is being pro Hamas (which should be illegal in all countries that consider Hamas a terrorist organization)

The more Gaza is destroyed, the more Hamas wins (unless Hamas is destroyed in the process).

Hezbollah does not have that luxury. Their territory is too big to live on aid alone and the recognized Lebanese government has been chomping at the bigs to take the territory back for years.

No **** dude, the people who were against this pointless quagmire from day 1 could have told you that. There's no exit plan for the IDF, the killings will go on until "Hamas is defeated," which even you recognize will never happen.

Fortunately we are democracies that value freedom of thought and expression, unlike your proposal.

iirc the country you live in sends the police to the house of people who misgender others on social media.

Hamas to recruit Gazan youths in Khan Yunis comeback

so "children" can be Hamas fighters, how surprising.

and 40% of the deaths were Hamas militants, even higher than my estimate. + collaborators and so on, exceptionally low combatant:civilian ratio.

the most moral in urban warfare history, well done IDF.

now bomb all those training camps, we don't care if western supporters will claim you kill "children", we know better.

There are limits to freedom here, as in most countries. Hate crime is an offence, hence the name.

sounds like hamas recruitment is going badly

it makes sense. before oct 7 the offer was: provide from your family, get the first pick of gaza's resources, fire off a few rockets, potentially get the chance to go rape some festival goers over the boarder

now the sell is that you get to spend a few months underground, and then die

would you guys be up for that? bc i wouldn't. there is a quasi-racist idea hanging in the air that 'brown people' dont care about dying, but i reckon that's false

I thought the line used by people denying that Israel's wanton murder of Palestinians has a racist element is that Palestinians aren't brown?

by Trolly McTrollson k

I have consistently said Hamas needs to be removed, at least demilitarized.

I will even own up to thinking if it takes months of constant bombing to destroy one tunnel at a time, so be it. Hamas cannot be allowed to remain in power, not as a military threat anyway.

Meanwhile, are you willing to own up to the inevitability of bigger and “better” Oct 7s after forcing Israel to cave into Hamas’ demands?

by BOIDS k

would you guys be up for that? bc i wouldn't. there is a quasi-racist idea hanging in the air that 'brown people' dont care about dying, but i reckon that's false

It’s a broader idea that Palestinians and Hamas have no agency and responsibility in the current situation and only Israel can stop.

Well if misgendering is a crime then supporting a terrorist organization can be a crime as well, given it's objectively an infinitely worse use of speech
