Also Bonds career pre-steroids era is good enough to be in the HOF.

I think part of it is how much of a jerk he was to everyone.

Agree, but that 8 hopper he threw from LF to home to try to get Bream
didn't help his pre-roids chances...

$9 popcorn pisses me off, and it shouldn't, because I'm not paying those kinds of prices.

what if we all were able to pick our own ratio?

Watching the US Olympic trials and learning that some events have three semi-finals.

it's been happening for at least a decade. I think it's related to cutting the most popular events down from 4 rounds to 3 rounds

I like flexibility in thinking. Or, maybe it's more accurate to say that people who refuse to think flexibly bother me.

So, I'm more upset with myself than anything for what I mentioned. Never should've given it a second thought.

My wife will typically stop the microwave with like 3 seconds left, and THEN NOT CLEAR THE TIME. So trivially infuriating.

by jawhoo

My mother in law does this, and agree. I hate it because I subconsciously check the time on the microwave every time I walk into the kitchen, and when I see 0:06 our whatever it gives me a jolt.

I was looking for an old post of mine and came across this one, updating to say my wife has started doing this too. Apparently it was genetic just took time to blossom. Dammit.

Walking by others on the sidewalk.

by Tuma

Walking by others on the sidewalk.

You mean like when you’re walking faster than someone, and overtake them on a sidewalk or maybe a park trail? Yeah, it seems like you should acknowledge them somehow, but I never know what to say.

Luckily, this situation doesn’t arise that much for me. I was once outdistanced by a woman pushing a baby stroller.

Even if you're directly crossing paths with someone going in opposite directions, there's no need to acknowledge them unless you know them or something.

no obligation to acknowledge, but something simple like a smile can get good mileage
especially from older ladies

There are wide regional variations in social expectations re: that.

But of course there is no need or requirement.

I live in a small beachside suburb where I'd guess approx 40% of the time, people say hello, or smile or nod at each other when they walk past in opposite directions. even when they're not fully acquainted. and 100% of the time obvs when we know each other or have moved in the same circles

my bigger challenge comes at night. I often go for a 45-60 min walk in the early evening. Areas around where I live, particularly down by the beach don't have street lighting or have inadequate lighting and I walk fast. So often I'm coming up behind people who are out for a walk or walking their dog and if it's at night I worry that I'm gonna scare them. If the walker is female, I will go through an elaborate coughing routine so they hear me coming or will shuffle my feet or pretend to be talking on the phone. And I will also walk very wide and often off the path and onto the grass next to it, so that I'm not right walking right next to them, which can also help if they're wearing ear buds.

I still generally create a jump scare every few walks
