That’s a myopic way of looking at it. Major events like US Open have regional/sectional qualifier tournaments to even make the field of the main event. So in effect, by the time the US Open has begun, players have already reached the money, so to speak, as they are past the qualifying tournaments. (Obviously high-ranked players skip the qualifiers).

I’ve always had a soft spot for Matusow. Most of that was from the days when he won the ToC, final tabled the main and did some time, and it was all assembled wonderfully by ESPN (I think) and their putting together of that narrative. The perfect underdog story. He always had that “if he could just catch a break, he’d be okay” kind of vibe and it was easy to think that way if all you’re going off of is ESPN footage.
I haven’t payed much attention since about 2013 when he won his last bracelet, but I still root for him. I don’t follow him on any socials or seek out any information on him or there’s a good chance I wouldn’t. If I heard that he was on a final table, I’d absolutely tune in. But I’d watch it on mute lol
A lot of this stems from these people think he's still a great player when he hasn't been in ages.
When you read the comments on any of these poker vlogs including MM and DN it's apparent 95 percent of people commenting are clueless on poker.

Mike is 16th with 28 left in the $1,500 closer. $525,000 up top! After seeing him hovering over a garbage can throwing up in daniels latest vlog it's safe to say he's in the dumps ! Not only a summer saver but a life saver for Mikey. Hope he runs pure.
