my mom used a giant bell hanging by the door, my dad had a whistle that you could hear from quite some distance

the fact living organisms in air and water are able to chemically create bioluminescence absolutely astounds me
and then to be able to witness it actually happening

was swimming in the ocean in oman and the ocean lit up like a rave whenever you thrash your limbs - it was amazing

This is more like the Tootsie Roll Pops commercials I remember. "Go ahead, kid. Bite it!"

My mom had a similar bell that was at the far end of our breezeway. She wouldn't walk down that breezeway a second time to ring it. I wasn't allowed to cross any streets for a while, but I can guarantee you that bell could be heard from any yard on our block and inside most of the houses. (That was before most had air conditioning.) My dad didn't need a whistle; my mom was his remote control--at least until I got older and was promoted.

i also used to chew glowsticks like crayons

We had a flurry of them a few years ago. Our dogs went nuts on their evening walks.

Lightning bugs not out here. At first, I thought some new vision problem was oncoming.

Then realized what it was, and just sat and watched a while. It was nice.

One of these years I really want to go check out the synchronized lightning bugs in Smoky Mountain National Park.
