Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.
This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.
Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.
Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.
So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.
Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.
So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.
We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.
Thanks.
I find mets a horribly abusive poster at times, but Palestine is such an emotional subject for many people if the ban has to stand I do think he should be allowed to post elsewhere on the forum.
It’s a fairly trivial task for anyone to deduce which posters fall into which groups, and it has nothing to do with their political affiliations.
idk, it does seem to be a pattern that Republicans and their water-carriers are the ones who keep getting banned for being revanchist bigots. But that's probably not what chilly was going for here.
From the outside, we don't see these warnings, but we see that the things he does again and again are not as bad as what we see others doing again.
I don't see how the warnings are relevant. The question is why others are not punished for more abundant and more abusive public posts.
I mean, its not like he goes around calling other people pedophiles repeatedly

I agree that I/P is an emotional subject for many people, which is the main reason why moderating the thread is difficult. My biggest concern when I was a mod was that certain threads would get so out of hand that they either would have to be closed or would end up posing a risk to the entire subforum.
Also, we are all adults. Adults should be able to control their emotions on the internet.
because you cant
the only receipt i dont have is the post you made trolling mets' childlessness, as it was deleted by a mod for being too nasty. but, helpfully, you made a subsequent post defending it
mets later posted about his wife's struggles and ultimate failure to conceive through ivf treatment, so nice job there

Was this the post you linked before saying "how would you know how a parent feels when you're not one?" or something like that? That's not "trolling someone's childlessness". "Trolling" in this context would be saying he's impotent or something.

Boids,
If I must address anything, it is the fact that you are projecting your own issues.
I don’t expect many to know things that happened in the distant past in a different subforum, but you and I both know that over ten years ago you lead a similar campaign against me during a time where I was very much publicly struggling with my mental health. You found much entertainment in my suffering.
What I think you have yet to really comprehend and accept is that the person I was over ten years ago who was very much susceptible to your brand of concern trolling is not the same person I am today. I have spent the better part of a decade on self growth and personal improvement- something you apparently have failed to invest in yourself.
You will not be able to get a rise out of me from these present interactions. Neither will I spend much attention on you at all. But if we are going to delve in the past and our personal interactions, then the forum may wish to be aware of your past involvements in them. Otherwise, you might as well just give up.
I wish you well on your journey.

no
i dont remember the exact wording because a mod went round deleting it and removing it from every post which quoted it, but it was not that

I’m sure you don’t, friend. Suddenly your very astute memory now fails you. ♥
i mean lets recap, you entered the i/p thread with a whole bunch of trolling of mets over what is clearly a decades-long dispute between the two of you, didn't stop for weeks despite being immediately put on ignore, got modded, and then permabanned him. ridiculous. you're in no position to mod him given your personal animus
and meanwhile you got luciom coming back here any minute now to post literal race science, because he gets 30 days only and is not subject to the grovelling rule

You’ll be alright, Boids.

If you ever played WW with mets, you might think differently.
i mean i joked earlier that the beef started 15 years ago over a game of pog werewolf, but there's got to be at least a 5% chance it is literally that
as i say i dont remember the exact phrasing. but i do know it was not just deleted, but quotes of it were deleted too
this was in the i/p thread at a time where calling someone a lover of baby genocide or a supporter of the rape of jewish civilians was more or less equivalent to saying 'hello, fellow poster, and good morning to you'
ok, i'm sure it is complicated
whatever the problem is, she is obviously in no position to pull the trigger on the poor lad

I haven't seen all of the stuff that led to his ban so I might be talking out my ass, but I just haven't seen any evidence of cross coming from a position of butthurt from years ago. Just not seeing it.
FWIW, I've had some pretty serious battles with both of them. There was a period of time when cross was a handful for mods herself (as was I). Mets has never been one to take a breather and chill, though. I haven't seen anything from cross now other than thoughtful moderation.
Just my two cents.
