The AEW Thread
Kinda surprised that more people are not talking about this here. With the announcement that they will have weekly tv on TNT + the solid roster + the funds + how trash WWE has been, it seems like this is a huge deal for the wrestling world. Are you guys just super jaded with wrestling now, or not really into the potential new company?

The moment with Gangrel was anything but cool.
Vaquer was definitely the highlight of the show for me with Swerve/Ospreay up there too. Mercedes looked terrible. I don't know if she was trying to match Vaquer's style or trying out a new moveset, but she was off with everything she tried.
Jericho's streak of being in the worst match on the card extends to 8 PPVs. Well done.
This Dynamite has been freaking great. AEW storylines are honestly cooking right now.
That was great and very shocking live
WTF MJF?
I get where the guys who are the best pure wrestlers and want to do their own thing want to be in AEW, but I think MJF has to get the hell out of there.
The Adam Cole faction knocks him out for months. So obviously, he returns to... fight a bunch of mid-carders and then turn on one?
I get that Cole is out and Wardlow has been nowhere to be seen AGAIN, but then why the **** have Cole be the guy under the mask if you knew he was injured and were going to go NOWHERE with it? If MJF is fighting mid-carders, shouldn't it be that group?
Most wasted storyline since the Higher Power. This is Samoa Joe being kidnapped and then just never following up on it, TNA level bad.
Did you watch the show last night? Feels like Max explained it well enough in his last couple promos.
It’s annoying the Cole stuff had to be put on ice, but there’s not much you can do when the guy has a freak injury and really difficult recovery.
As for him “getting the hell out of AEW,” where would he even go? There’s no room for someone like MJF in the WWE right now, not at the top anyway.
It's clear that the guys who came from AEW to WWE have improved their creative dramatically (Pillman, Page, Cody so obviously, and even Shawn Spears, who is mostly a trainer now). Even Punk. AEW is the wrestling show. If you want to have great matches without much storyline, go there. MJF is more character than great worker. He would benefit from better story telling.
No I have not seen last night. I am behind. Again, they should have called an audible on the Cole thing. Why is any MJF turn wasted on a mid-carder though? It would be like Cody turning on the Miz or Otis. Save it for a while. Work your way into it and have him turn on a top guy eventually.

I understand what you’re saying, and you do have some points. I just think MJF is better served career-wise by ruling AEW for another 5 years or so before going to WWE on his own terms much like Cody.
They needed to pivot from having Cole revealed as the devil at whatever ppv in December where Joe won the belt.
For sure, they definitely had options. You’d think one of the best benefits of such a stacked roster would be the ability to adapt on the fly more organically, but unfortunately the company has handled most of these spots poorly at best.
That devil thing would have been a great opportunity to swap to someone like Jay White and get him out of mid-card hell. Maybe even have Joe join the BCC.
This is art.
Britt Baker's in insane shape now. Hopefully she can put it all together in the ring, b/c she seems like the biggest star in the women's division, including Moné, who's been disappointing, but should be way better as a heel.
Blood and Guts episode was a lot of fun. Dynamite has honestly been killer for the past few weeks.
All In card is pretty great so far.
Blood and Guts was one of the better booked matches I've seen in a while. Although not really a guy I care much about, I like how they held the tension between Page and the Elite. The end kinda sucked though. Too many of these kinds of matches end because of what a guy threatens to do rather than what they actually do. I think WWE just used this ending on Cody/A.J. and I hated it then.
These titles continue to get out of hand. How many times has Tony renamed the whatever title MJF and Osprey are fighting over now?
Pretty amazing that the guy who seems to have gotten over the most with this crowd in the last year is Jeff Jarrett. How did he do it? Storyline and emotion. All the flippy guys should take notice.

While I do agree some of the belts are a mess, this “change” at least makes a lot of sense in kayfaybe.
When Ospreay was still in New Japan, he won the US IWGP championship and re-dubbed it the UK championship. So in addition to playing into the bizarro nature of a heel holding the “face American” title, it’s also MJF making a direct dig at Ospreay.
I don't even know what the title is or where it stands in the hierarchy. Wasn't that the belt Orange was carrying around in a backpack and called something else?
I hate O'Reilly standing behind Briscoe making stupid faces. They should have put him in the BCC. He's a very awkward dude left to his own merits.
Yeah, it was originally the All Atlantic Title. It was “leveled up” (TK’s own words) to the International Title during Orange Cassidy’s long reign. Max rebranded it as the American Title last week. It is seemingly still technically the International Title, and MJF is just doing a vanity thing similar to Ospreay’s UK belt in NJPW.
It was starting to get some legitimacy as a workhorse belt even higher than the TNT title, but then TK introduced the Continental Title which has diluted the value of all three men’s midcard belts. It’s annoying, to say the least.
It’s also stupid that the AEW Trios belts and the ROH 6man titles are no longer unified. I was hoping that was a step in the right direction of belt consolidation, but I truly have no idea what TK is doing now. In my opinion, you gotta merge those Trios belts permanently and get rid of the ROH middle belts (TV title and the Pure championship). Additionally, the Continental Title should’ve never been carried around and just been ceremonial like the Owen.

ROH titles (and ROH in general) need to completely separate from AEW and never appear on their television shows.
Just make it their equivalent to NXT.
That would obviously be the best move, but it seems like the notion is dead for whatever reason.
What could Britt have said about MJF that was so bad that it got her suspended?
