oh no not at all, the indoor cycling is a big win, every other race involves a gigantic wipeout 5 cyclist crash with wheel spokes poking out all over the place and broken bones

Of course times vary, and I also believe a favorite to win can (subconsciously) save that little extra effort for the final. If it was a random Australian or American swimmer, we'd just think they managed to peak at the perfect time.
