Dis pretty much. When I was young long ago it was all about football, either you played football or you were a DJ or played in a metal/punk band for those so inclined. That's how you got all the good girls and everything else pretty much. Prolly nowadays it's moar diverse, basketball is moar popular, but handball is what you were occasionally interrupted with on public tv with a first division of teams from cities nobody has ever heard of.
