Hot Fun in the Summertime: Lounge LC Thread
Starting a day early because I might forget tomorrow. 95 degree temps expected inland in RI. It might hit 75 at my house
The Irish are scum, almost as bad as the English!
Charlie: no sarcasm
Zeno: I expected nothing less, and that's exactly what I received.

Cliffs of Moher are pretty great if you're in the west, John.
It’s never been boring! Praise the Lord!
Two full days in Ireland so far. Beautiful sunny weather. I still haven't driven yet, but I'm going to need to. My driver keeps hitting hedgerows with the side mirror.

Sunny in Ireland; God is smiling on you!
At least they're just hedgerows, and not the stone walls they have right up against the road.

Has he been drinking? Have you? Never been to Ireland so I'm not sure if they drink much there 😀 Anyway it's Friday here and the first few G 'n T's went down real easy!
Happy Friday!
having spent thousands of metric miles sat in the postman's seat
navigating stone walled winding narrow hedge roads across the lands of scots and eire
where oncoming lorries are frequently abundant
best bit of advice to offer was given by a male dublin taxi driver
get full coverage on the rental and drive it like you f3ckin' stole it
Yep, I was glad I had full coverage. Pretty mundane though--going down a super-narrow alley to the carpark in Killarney, banged up the passenger side (no depth perception for me).
Quite surprised, when I called Hertz to let them know, they pretty much said, "don't worry, you're covered. When you get back to Dublin you'll have to fill out a report for us." Easy peasy.
Have Americans never heard of public transport?
absolutely they have
but it has been transformed into some sort of stigmata of the working class
signs you can't afford to drive or park your single family commuter auto
no choice left but to ride a communist bus

My driver is a woman. She's handling things pretty well, but she's not great at parking. After watching her try to pull into a parking spot, a German guy said to me, "That's why you should never let your wife drive."
Anyway, a couple pics from today.

Stately homes, is it?
Indeed. I visited a friend a couple of times who lived in deepest Co. Clare. There was one bus a week from Ennis to within a few miles of where he lived. How I managed to catch it, or even know about it in those pre-internet days, I cannot remember. The locals were pretty relaxed about telling me where to find it, too.
I just had to post this one.

It’s a large prehistoric snail. Did it try to bite you?
I tried to tell them that's what it is.
A couple pics from today. Took ferry to one of the Aran Islands. Took a bus and then walked a mile or so to the remains of a fort at the end of the world. Over to the Cliffs of Moher and then to Galway. Nobody serves food after 9:00 or 9:30, so we were late for dinner. Went to the only food place open, a pizza joint, ordered a pizza and brought it to a bar to eat.
One pic from Inis Mor, the Aran Island. The other from cliffs.

Also we visited with some Columban nuns. My friend's aunt was a nun who moved to Ireland and established Irish citizenship. She died last year, so my friend wanted to talk to the sisters about her aunt and visit her grave.
The nuns were utterly sweet and charming and just good human beings. They recently took in about a dozen refugees from Ukraine.
And they fed us turkey dinner.

wow, great pics, John
In future, please don't forget pictures of pizza in bar.
The Aran Islands, that's out of the way. Nice one. They speak Irish there, right?
White Sox win! They need 12 more wins to not have the worst record in the history of baseball. At their current pace this seems to be a very tough task. I am not sure if I want them to beat out the '62 Mets or not? They suck so bad I don't really care anymore. The worse they are this year the more they improve next year (hopefully?)!
looks like proper irish weather John
as for the nuns...don't they just look the epitome of how you describe them?
