If you listen to the opening guitar riff in the first 13 seconds, it "clanks" like a Muddy Waters riff. Does anybody know how they get that sound?

A coffee can? Who knows what they were doing in the studio back then. You could get close picking at the bridge saddle and playing with harmonics.
