OK Vlogger Thread, we are going with some new parameters to try to make this the POSITIVE vlogger thread that it is supposed to be, not the AIDS vlogger thread where a few loonies ruin it for the rest. Note that 'positive' does not equal 'only positive', it means anything negative being said CAN'T be namecalling or wild, unsubstantiated speculation regarding any and all vloggers. Personal lives and anything aside from poker is OFF THE TABLE.

A new update March 2019:
NO ****ING POLITICS!
Think you guys all nail, it really comes down to the fact diesel just isn’t very smart. He’s unable to be critical of himself, he isn’t introspective, he’s just a dummy. He isn’t able to think, he really prides himself on having a good memory but he is so bad at critical thinking i haven’t ever experienced someone like this before. Not wanting there to be swings, is a ridiculous argument to halve or quarter what you can make because you’re mentally weak to the point you can’t handle losing a buy in. Not playing a higher stake in 2-5 which is in my opinion the same skill level as 1-2 in Vegas but at least the same skill level as 1-2 throughout the country in middle America even though it represents an ability to double or triple your income, because it’d have bigger swings is just so mind numbingly dumb I can even wrap my head around it, considering he’s supposedly super over rolled for it. The idea that 2-5 games are too serious and not talkative isn’t even a thing to think and I won’t accept it as a real opinion because it’s complete nonsense. The guy is the worst businessman in history. The goal is to make like 150k in 10 years, so he can retire to the tunnels essentially, he can easily make that in a year or two, but decides he wants to do it in 10 years, which I can’t imagine he’s on track for given he’s only saving like 2k a year from what I’ve seen
Remember when Diesel came to this thread as big poppa claiming he's Diesel's childhood friend and saying he was here to stay?
Where is bigpoppa??
He has to lash out at the haters the same way every poker lol cow has to. He tried posting in here but people said things back to him, if he posts his responses on YouTube like this he can frame the whole conversation to where he’s actually always right, which is his dream scenario
No he couldn’t have gotten a bad grade or missed the forest for the trees, he followed the rubric!
No you guys are wrong and must be losing poker players!
No the standard overtime policy is scamming me!

He takes it to such an extreme but I've seen people like him before. They do well in school if they study a lot because they're very good at memorization and regurgitation. But then they have zero common sense or logical and critical thinking skills at all. But they think they're smart because of their grades.
Basically your assessment of him is dead on especially his 10 year plan.
He's never once in his poker career realized that basically any pro makes more than him and tried to figure out why. It's astounding. He's scraping the absolute bottom of the barrel with regards to poker winnings and he still can't humble himself at all.
And much like the Trooper he has a small following of mouth breathers who think it would be amazing to play 1/2 nl for a living bc they like poker and hate their jobs. Of course anyone who has actually made good money at poker is an idiot or a hater if they point out how laughably bad these 2 are at poker.
can definitely see how diesel would have done well in sats and hs grades where he can just remember the correct answer/solution and then work it from there
but once he gets beyond that it drops immensely
was probably the only iowa law student in from an ivy in their entire existence that didn't have a specific geographic preference for living in iowa (ie caitlin clark was a top recruit and could have gone to the powerhouse of her choice but she was from iowa and opted to go to a school that didn't even qualify for the march madness tournament the year before she enrolled - i'm sure you get harvard grads from Iowa who want to practice law in Iowa so that's where they do law school but without that specific reason it's a terrible school to go to and very likely the best one he was able to get accepted into)
can also see how when there's 2x more law degree holders than lawyer positions available, how he'd not be able to distinguish himself in the top 50% and get a job in law because he'd tank every interview - probably went on a rant describing how he should have won all the mock trials but the judges screwed him over in all the interviews as well as telling them he was the smartest and best candidate they could hire
Rice went to law school @ Nebraska
I don’t think he’s ever told us his LSAT score ,
but with the Ivy League undergrad there are lots of law schools that would’ve accepted him.
I’m guessing Nebraska made him a generous scholarship offer &
so he was probably able to do law school for not too much $
Surprised she briefly went into how she studies 2:17 into the video. It’s a topic I rarely see vloggers get into.
This one came up on my recommended list. Have no idea what he was thinking with that call at 5:58. It makes me wonder what other loose calls he makes.
At least he isn’t too scared to play the Wynn 1-3 game like the other low stakes vloggers, although he does admit being nervous at the beginning.
I think some of the low stakes vloggers do get intimidated when they go there, and see wealthier players (on average) that have bigger stacks and seem more comfortable with those stacks than they are in a typical 1-2 NL game that is played at noon with players nitting it up and possibly chasing comps and promotions.
must have caitlin clark on the mind 😀
current us news law school ranking has Iowa #36 and Nebraska #82 - i have a lot of friends who are lawyers, they all agree if you can't get into a top 10 program then you need to search for a place that has specific ties to what you want to do (ie if you can't get into a school like Yale Law but want to practice in San Diego then UC-SD is by far the best option for you)
I don’t think he’s ever told us his LSAT score ,

this is not true at all
it gives a huge leg up for sure, when in doubt they'll give it to the kid with the more prestigious school on the diploma, but if he didn't get good grades and had a poor LSAT they're going to ignore the name of the school he went to pretty quickly
academia is very much "what have you done for me lately" hence why every year top universities accept junior college transfers etc etc
and also you should be aware that academic scholarships for grad school is basically unheard of and only exists because some billionaire decided to pay for it and even then they aren't just looking for good students but something specific like someone who is a top student and has expressed interest in being an environmental rights lawyer etc
fwiw undergrad scholarships are deeply overstated as well - it's not something that's possible to fact check and there's many reasons for it beyond vanity as one could also wish to play down the wealth of their parents etc
but... and this is the key part, given how much coach diesel will happily drone on and on about how great and smart he is and how he's the best at everything, there's zero chance if he had a full ride in law school that he wouldn't have mentioned that within seconds of pointing out he went to law school
like there's no chance "his friend" who showed up here wouldn't have mentioend "and he's so smart he got a full ride at nebraska" if that were the case
Not to turn this into a law school thread but:
i have a lot of friends who are lawyers, they all agree if you can't get into a top 10 program then you need to search for a place that has specific ties to what you want to do
This part is true
As for the rest of it - you’re underestimating the amount of law schools out there .
There are schools who will take just about anyone with a pulse ; many of these are private and for-profit.
For above-average students , scholarships for law school probably aren’t as hard to come by as you think.
I didn’t go to any Ivy League school, but I got a scholarship for law school (not full ride)
I don’t think Nebraska is all that selective & they probably have to lure their recruits with scholarship $$
I knew at least one person who rec’d an unsolicited offer to Nebraska law (without applying) and her numbers weren’t all that good ;
My guess is Rice got an unsolicited offer from them too , I don’t think he randomly chose to apply there

Nebraska Law was playing the long game. Look at how much free advertising they are getting from Diesel's vlog. Would we ever be talking about Nebraska if Diesel didn't graduate from there?

Not sure why someone would be nervous in a Wynn 1/3 game. It should be exciting seeing the amount of money of the table when you buy in. Just because it’s the Wynn doesn’t mean there aren’t droolers everywhere. These droolers just have more money to blow. Help them.

If you've watched some of his older videos he is kind of a young Rice. Nitty. Inexperienced. Seems like a nice kid though.
As for Rice, do we know for a fact he graduated law school? I thought he lost the mock trial and said F you?

But if u bet $10 instead of $9, even if the rake goes up $1 you are still making $1 extra so there is no difference.
Right?
For rooms with promotions rake, this strategy comes into play. Example below
House rake: $5 cap
$1 at $10
$2 at $20
$3 at $30
$4 at $40
$5 at $50
Promotions drop: $2 cap
$1 at $10
$2 at $20
At $20 there is $2 raked, $1 for the house and $1 for the promotions. If the pot is $9 and you want to avoid an extra $2 of rake, you bet $5 and then if you're called, the pot is $19.
If you were to bet $6 and then got called, the pot would end up at $21, but the extra $2 of rake brings it down to $19. So you come out exactly the same, but risked $6 instead of $5.
How funny was when Reggie steer kept calling him coach el diesel, that’s so good

Koshka +1.
I would add that it is kind of shocking to me how many solid grinders, part time pros or generally good players as a foundation but they still lack the understanding of these concepts. Or at least they are unable to preach what they know its correct on paper. Everybody wants to have big winning sessions where you win like 8-10 buyins or coming close to wipe out the table, but people dont want the other side of the coin wich is the pain of having big losing days.
My impression is the pain
For many many many players, the #1 motivation in playing poker is not to maximize winnings or to play optimally, where the variance can be highest, but to simply enjoy the game and socialize. Many people are willing to dedicate a certain amount of money to poker and not have it interfere with their budgets or savings. If they play a higher variance style and go on a big losing streak, it can interfere with their ability to continue playing or take away from their monthly savings they put away for the future. Not a lot of people like to walk away from their hobbies or things they enjoy doing due to money issues. Lots of folks are happy to just earn some money doing something they enjoy, which is not the case for just about any other hobby.

Because a lot of people at low stakes are bad players. Did you see his call with K2 that I mentioned?
Someone once told me that it felt like everyone he played with in the Aria 1-3 game seemed like a pro, and this was years ago when the buy-in was only $300. To someone like that, a $500 cap probably would make the game more intimidating.

+1
All the 2+2 pros forget that 90 percent of the player pool is there to have fun. It's why the best pros are the one who socialize and make it fun for the recs

Yeah he seems very likeable in the video I watched.
Pretty sure he did graduate,
but he didn’t take a bar exam so he’s not licensed anywhere.
If someone can get Rice interested in it, I’d be willing to chip in some $ towards a “Pass the Bar Exam Challenge”
It’s a real commitment of time / money , so I’m sure the only way he will do it is if other ppl are paying for it.

i think what's more likely is he never passed it than he chose not to take it
there's no way he went through law school and went straight into being homeless and grinding comps to get by, there must have been an extended period of time of getting kicked in the face before you wound up there
ie think about the existence of prostitutes
then think about most people you know irl who are not prostitutes and what terrible series of events would be required to happen in their lives to lead them to that point

To answer this question we need to find out if ELD was in student housing during law school or an apartment off campus. Usually the student house kicks people out a week after the semester ends. Maybe after the last final exam ELD got in his car and drove to Harrah's (or more likely the Rio since it was cheaper than Harrah's back then) for a nomadic baptism by fire. Back tnen ELD said he was playing poker in school breaks so if he used the 10X promos he could have been Diamond since 10X used to work for poker.
