Irsay is easy to make fun of, but I don't buy that he's SO out of it that he has no idea what's going on. Instead, I think Ballard is one of those guys in life for whom "confidence" can get confused for "ability". We probably all know someone like that, and I think he just ended up as the GM of a football team.

He has a losing record in 8 years as Colts' GM, and even if you give him 3ish years because Luck retired out of nowhere, 4-5 more years is an eternity in the NFL. He's invested insane draft capital in the DLine which is currently allowing the most yards rushing yards in the NFL (474 in 2 games) and the defense in general is allowing 400 ypg. He absolutely refuses to spend money in FA, saying over and over "we like our guys", except most of "our guys" suck and his refusal to address positions like CB have left the Colts with one of the most depleted rosters while having a rookie-contract QB. That's something that should be impossible in the modern NFL.
